Five day workshop from 27th – 31st March, 2017

A five day workshop was organized jointly by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan , New Delhi and

Snskrit Bhasha Pracharini Sabha Nagpur , Maharashtra on “डिजिटल ्इंडिया की वैदिकपषृ्ठभूमि , संस्कृत-अल्गोरििम्स ्“.

( Vaidic backend of Digital India – Sanskrit algorithms)

Nearly two hundred junior college students and teachers from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan ,

New Delhi attended the workshop that was held from 27th March to 31 March 2017.

The workshop was conducted by :

1) Dr. Chandragupta S. Warnekar, Ex. Principal Cummins College of Engineering,

Pune and a renowned scholar in Sanskrit & Computer Science.

2) Mr. Shridhar V. Moharil, M.Tech IIT Bombay,

3) Mr. Dilip T. Khare, Assistant Principal , C P & Berar high school & junior

college , Nagpur.

Following topics were covered in this five day seminar.

१) काययशाला की प्रस्तावना एवं भूमिका ( Introduction to the workshop and objective )

२) वैज्ञाननक दृष्टिकोण से संस्कृत भाषा का परिचय, -

वणयिाला, उच्चािण, भाषाध्ययन कारिका, संधि , सिास, सुभाष्टषत , अििकोश (Introduction

to Sanskrit from scientific perspective ( Sanskrit Varnamala,

pronunciation, Bhashadhyayan Karika’s , Sandhi, Samas, Subhashit , Amarkosh )

३) नाना ष्टवज्ञान िाला , ष्टवज्ञानष्टवषयक संस्कृत सादित्य का परिचय ( Nana-Vigyan-Mala ,

Introduction to Science related Sanskrit Literature )

४) अल्गोरििम्स का इनतिास, संस्कृत प्रनतशब्ि एवं व्याख्या , भाितीयों की अनोखी स्थानिान-

संख्या-पध्िनतिः एवं संख्या लेखन के प्रकाि ( History of Sanskrit based Algorithms,

definition and Sanskrit based terminologies, position based number system , which is the

unique contribution of Indian mathematicians to the world )

५) ष्टवष्टवि प्रकाि के संस्कृत अल्गोरििम्स एवं वैदिकगणणतष्टवषय का सोिाििण स्पिीकिण, के साथ कण्ठस्थीकिण िेतु िागयिशयन (Explanation for Different types of Sanskrit Algorithms

and Vaidic mathematics related topics with examples. Guidance to students for their

memorization )

६) सङ्गणकष्टवज्ञान िें उपयुक्तता, प्रयोग प्रयास, संिभय ग्रंथ परिचय, शंकासिािान तथा सिल पिीक्षा Applicability in Computer Science, efforts for application and introduction to

reference material )

Highlights of the workshop

The participants were introduced to:

1) Invention of zero , decimal numbering system, concept of infinity, value

of π by Indian mathematicians.

2) the different systems for representing numbers like कटपयादि सङख्या-वाचन-पद्धनत ( Katapayadi number reading system) , and भूत सङख्या-वाचन-

पद्धनत (Object based number reading system ) that were used by ancient

mathematicians in Sanskrit Literature.

3) Shulba sutra authored by Vaidic Scholar Bhaudhayan in 800 BC which is

nothing but the Pythagoras Theorem which was established about 250 years

before Pythagoras.

4) Different Sutras ( algorithms ) on Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry ,

Statistics .

given by the renowned Indian mathematicians like Aryabhatta, Brahmagupta ,

Bhaskaracharya and Lagadh Muni etc.

5) Scientific architecture of Sanskrit language including Varnamala, Phonetics

, Sandhi and script.

6) कारिका ( proses) of Sanskrit Vigyanmala pertaining to Physics, Chemistry,

Botany, Agriculture, Time measurement, Astronomy. Medical Science .

7) Two special lectures , briefly covering the above topics were the arranged

for the benefit of M.B.A. and B.Ed. students & faculty members of B.V.B.
