duties of his command, which has covored the eutiro term oftho Provisional Government of thoHawaiian Islands from its inceptionto its rotiromout iu favor of tho Re-public of Hawaii.

hereby tender him a sword and thethanks of these Councils.
"Do it further resolved, that thisresolution be spread upon tho minutes of this body aud a copy bo for-warded to Col. Sopor."
Mr. Emmoluth opposed tho pas-sage of tho resolution, consideringthat Col. Sopor had received all thecompensation to which ho was en-
titled.Minister Hatch hoped the. resolu-

member of the command. He testi-fied to Col. Sopor's fidelity ftud thovaluablo assistance he had renderedtho Executive. Ho had acceptedthe position at a timo when few menworo ready to tako it.
President Dole regarded tho pro-posed action as very appropriate. Itwould do honor to the whole force.Tho readiness, vigilance aud disci-pline which tho force had beenunder, and tho constant watchfulness of tho Colonel commanding, had doubtless in a largo measureproduced the peaceful solution oftho situation. Thov miiriit congratulate themselves on having passedthrough tho trying 18 months patwithout bloodshed. If there hadbeen an attack made upon the Gov-ernment in that period, tho Colonelwoidd have been ready to meet it.Therefore, ho felt that ho was asdeserving of recognition as if he hadbeen called upon to face actual war-fare.
Tho resolution nnssed. The bill to provide for mail com-
munication with the coast of NorthAmerica was reintroduced, not having passed its final stages under thoProvisional Government.
Secretary Hodgers read the week-ly statement of tho treasury. Therecoipts were 131,134.97 aud the ex-
penditures $23,&l,tM5.Minister Hatch moved tho follow-
ing resolution, which was receivedwith applause and carried:
"Hesoiveu.-lli- ai tho rresiuouiaud members of tho Executive Couu-ci- l
shall be officially addressed sim-
ply by the title of their respectiveollicos, thus: 'To the President' or'Mr. President': aud similarly thememliers of the Cabinet. The terms'excellency,' 'honorable' and wordsof like import shall not bo used inofficially addressing members of thoExecutive Council."
Mr. Emmoluth propounded ques-tions to tho Executive regarding re-cent arrivals of Japanese.
The Councils adjourned till uoxtThursday.

In your issuo of the 10th Inst. I
read au article staling that all thespecial "constables." or whatoveruatno they wont by, had boon dis-- I
charged. It appears to mo that all. tho regulars have either been dis-- 'charged or are on leave of absence,or perhaps gone as a body guard totho Marshal. Last evening in ahouse beyond Kavvaiahao occupiedby natives, there was a second edi-
tion of "Donnybrook Fair," and thewriter witnessed tho most brutaltreatment of a woman by her intoxi- -
caiou uusoanu. uiey nimpiy manenight hideous with their yells audobscene language, and when thereappeared no chance of a cessation ofhostility, a constable was looked for,but tho messenger had to walk clearto tho station house before findingone, and on his arrival the door wassimply closed in his face, and theperformance wont on inside withoutinterruption. There are worse nui-sancer than tho royalists, but theyappear ol no cousequeuco to tneI" ilico lorco. Not a srcviAL.

Tuesday, July S, IA91,
The, scheme to run a Hue of
steamers from lacoma to Yo-
kohama, making Honolulu a
stopping point is gradully tak-
ing shape. Tacoma is now,
and has been for several years,
the shipping point for a vastamount of products of NorthWestern Washington. Rail-
roads from points east of themountains connect the greatwheat oroduciner district ofWalla Walla Valley with tide
water and the promoters of thenew line anticipate a largebusiness in Washington pro-
ducts between these points.
Wc understand the Canadianand Australian line gets this
business now by means nf a
transport between Tacoma and
Vancouver, and the idea of theGreat Northern is to securethe business without the extrahandling of freight Washing-
ton is a great state, rivaling
Minnesota in the productionof wheat and giving to the peo-
ple of the northwest fruits
more luscious than California
can grow. If a line of steamersfrom Tacoma to Yokohamacalling here could be made to
pay it would certainly be a
good thing for Hawaii. Every
vessel that docks here meansmoney to the merchants; themore vessels, the. more money, and it is the same in any citywith a harbor. Some yearsago a city on Paget Sound gotmost of its business throughthe fact of its being the port ofentry for the Sound. As timepassed other towns sprung upand developed into cities oflarger and stronger growththan the other, and they werein time made sub-por- ts of en-
try. From that time until to-
day it has been a case of the"survival of the fittest." Thefirst town with its $300,xxcustom house and gloriousclimate has sunk into insigni-ficance; vessels which formerlyentered and cleared there gofurther up Sound and the tradehas eone with it. So it hasbeen here on the Islands. La-hain- a
is to-da-y commerciallydead; hundreds of people herecan remember counting 200vessels in the harbor at onetime. Is money as plentiful inHonolulu as when the harborwas full of whaleships? It is
easy to note the change which
have taken place since thedays when the shipping at La-hai- na
was larger than it is to-
day. It is as easy, then, tocalculate the benefits to be de-
rived from additional lines ofsteamers into Honolulu.
If there has ever been abetter iron stove than the"Pansy" manufactured we'venot heard of it. Hundreds ofthese stoves are in use here, and every one has given satis-
faction. We have them inthree .sizes and keep gettingthem by every steamer. Ifyou want a good baker thatuses the minimum quantity offuel you can do no better thanto buy a "Pansy."
The "D. & D." polisher will
succeed Sapolio just as thesafety has succeeded the oldtime velocipede. We havetried this polisher for everypurpose for which Sapolio isused and find it superior.

fATKNTRIJ ONDKK THR LAWS THK HAWAIIAN IHI.ASIm
qiHE UNDERSIGNED HAVE BEEN APPOINTED 80LE AGENTS FOMthcso Shrkddkks and arc now prepared to rcccivo orders.
Tlie great advantages to be derived from the use of the National OamkShredder are thoroughly established aud acknowledged by Plantersgenerally.
The large number of Planters using them in the United States, Cuba,Argentine Republic, Peru. Australia and elsewhere, bear witness to theabove claim.
The use of the Hhrkddkr very largely augments the miaulity of cauothe mill can grind (25 to 50), also the extraction of juice (6 to 12).
It is a great safeguard, making known at once the presence of anypieces of iron, stakes from cars, or anything which would bo liablo to damagethe mill, and allowing ample time to remove same beforn damaging the mill.
The Siikkdder is very strongly made, and from the manner of its opera-tion it cuts or tears these pieces of wood or iron without often breaking the
1irkddkr; and if anything breaks, it in simply somo of the knives or cutters, which can bo quickly and economically replaced. The Hiirkddek, as itsname indicates, tears the caue into shreds of varying lengths, perfectly opening it and allowing tho mill to thoroughly press out the juices without re-quiring the immense extra power necessary to grind or crush the wholecane. Tho Hhreddkk spreads the shredded cano uniformly and evenly totho mill rolls, and docs away witli the necessity of spreading the bagasse byhand between tho mills, where rcgrinding is in use. No greater amount ofboiler capacity is required to operate tho Hhhkddkk than that which waisufficient fur tho mill, for the above reasons. We furnish full workingdrawings for tho installation of our Piiukddkhb, enabling any competent engincer to successfully lustall and start, them.
In ordering Siihkddkkh from us, ploune send email xketch. shuwlng thidiameter and width of the mill rolls with which Siikwddku is to be connected, also the side (either right or left hand as you face lkn delivery side of themill;, upon which tho mill engine is located, nlo tho height from Moor lineto center of front mill roll shaft, and distanco center this shaft to front eudof bed plate. These 8hrkdderh are now being used by the Hilo Sugar Co.and Hawi Mill, Kohala, where thoy arc giving grunt satisfaction.
