Welcome Dr. Ken Roxburgh October 13, 20, & 27 Dr. Roxburgh went to Samford from Scottish Baptist College in Glasgow, Scotland, where he served as president and taught. He received his B.A. from the London School of Theology, his M.Th. from Aberdeen University, and his Ph.D. from Edinburgh University. Dr. Roxburgh researches the History of Christianity in Scotland in the 20th century. He has written numerous articles for scholarly journals, as well as a book, “Thomas Gillespie and the Origins of the Relief Church in 18th Century Scotland” (Peter Lang, 1999). At Samford, Dr. Roxburgh teaches Baptist History and Theology, Christian Theology, Pastoral Theology, and Contemporary Theology. He is married with two adult children who live in Scotland. He has two granddaughters and two grandsons.

Let's Play Golf Sunday October 13, at the Williams Creek Wee course at 2:00 pm. The format is a foursome scramble with a shotgun start. The cost is $35. There will be no prize ceremony or meal afterwards, but we can gather in the clubhouse and have refreshments from their supplies and a little bragging time together. Deadline for sign-ups is TODAY. New Church Pictorial Directory Thank you to everyone who has signed up for your portrait session for our new pictorial directory. We had a tremendous response! If you do not have an appointment but have already contacted the office with your name and phone number prior to Monday, October 8, your name has been submitted, and you will be contacted by CP Photo directly to set up your appointment. Those of you who have asked to reschedule your appointment will also be contacted by CP Photo to reschedule. If you have not placed your name on a list to be contacted but would like to be included in the directory, you must contact CP Photo directly at 1-866-554-9032. They will make every effort to get you scheduled, if possible.

We Need Your Help! October 27, 4:30 to 6:30 pm We still need several more trunks and lots of volunteers for Trunk or Treat! If you can help, sign up at the reception desk or on the sheet in your Sunday School folder, or email statum@fbcknox.org. Another way to help is to bring bags of candy to the baskets on the 2nd floor and in the Welcome Center. All candy should be free of nuts and peanut butter and individually wrapped.

Mission Trip March 15-22, 2014, Rio Grande Valley, TX First Baptist Church will once again be partnering with Buckner International and the Baptist Collegiate Ministry at UT Knoxville to serve the Rio Grande Valley, TX, community. The trip will be March 15-22, 2014. Return to Early Christian Practices Have you ever wondered why the practice of prayer, laying-on-hands, and anointing as mandated by Jesus has lost favor with many? Would you like to know more about the history of healing and how to bring it back into your own life? If so these are the classes for you! FBC Hike Saturday, October 12 Because of the uncertainty of the reopening date of the national park we will meet at Norris Dam State Park at 10 am (weather permitting.) Turn left exit 128 off I-75, go 2.5 miles to park entrance, turn left into the park. We will be at the first picnic area on the right just past the park rules sign. Concert Series 2013-2014 Presents: Ben Bolt, Classical Guitar Sunday, November 3, 6:30 pm, Sanctuary; Doors open at 6 pm Ben Bolt is a native Knoxvillian who has spent several years of his life-studying guitar in Spain, Paris, Brazil and Uruguay. After his first public performance on national TV, he has performed to full-house audiences throughout North, Central and South America. He was recently invited by international guitar star Ana Vidovic to perform with her in duo. Now you can hear Ben Bolt in concert at First Baptist Church. The evening will include familiar guitar pieces, adaptations of well-known music like the “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handelʼs “Messiah,” and hymns. Tickets are available on Sundays in the Welcome Center, during the week at the Reception desk, and on Wednesday nights in Trentham Hall.
