NEW CHURCH LOGO
The Communications Team is working on new branding for the church. We have created this logo in the first phase of our branding efforts. We wanted to share with the church what we have worked on so far and get feedback. We will continue to work this fall on a
complete brand guide with colors, fonts and group logos to be incorporated into the main logo. If you have any questions, please contact a member of the team: Krystal Baker, Will Robl, David Wilhelm, Julia Batts and Stuart Poland.

We will offer Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University this fall on Sundays starting September 15th for 9 weeks from 5:15-7:15 p.m. Childcare will be provided. Financial Peace University teaches you how to manage money the right way! You will learn about saving, budgeting, paying off debt, investing, giving, and so much more. If interested, please contact Krystal Baker at [email protected]. The 28th annual Volunteers in Mission (VIM) Barbecue Sale is scheduled for Friday, September 13th. In the past, many have generously helped underwrite the expenses of the barbecue by purchasing a “pig” for $100. Unfortu-nately, the 2018 barbecue had to be cancelled due to Hurri-cane Florence, and plans to hold it in the spring met with scheduling difficulties. However, many of you who were 2018 “pig” purchasers allowed us to keep the donation for the 2019 barbecue. If you are not already a 2018 (now 2019) “pig” purchaser and would like to be one, or pur-chase additional 2019 “pigs,” please call or send an email to Bea Newton 399-9561 [email protected] or Ben Batts, 294-7447 [email protected] and indicate how many “pigs” you wish to pledge. You will be mailed an invoice/tax receipt later this month with an envelope for payment. If this is your first time, please also give your full name(s), address and phone number. Thanks for your generous support!
Parents, you are invited to join us for a three week class titled Navigating Our Digital World. We will gather during the Sunday School hour in the Open Door Discussion Class (room 203 in the Blackburn Building) Sept. 15th, 22nd, and 29th. Parents with kids of ANY age are wel-come, but we'll be focusing on common questions and ideas around screen-time and social media for parenting school-aged children and teenagers. Several FUMC choir members are participating in tonight’s Old Fashioned Meeting at Daniel’s Chapel. Come join them at 6:00 for a fun evening of great music!
MUSIC NOTES We thank Jennifer Gay for her beautiful solo today and for the heartfelt ministry that she shares with us each week.

Sending Forth ONE THING REMAINS Praise Band
Greeters for August 18th: Chad and Lorrie Halverson, Tobi and Matt Nestor
We thank the Praise Band for their ministry this morning.
From the Pastor: Technology is amazing! I remember my first wristwatch, a Timex. It was advertised to “Take a Licking and Keep on Ticking.” I tried my best to test that claim! Anyway, the wristwatch I now wear is worlds beyond my old Timex. It doesn’t need winding. It changes time with each change of time zones and knows if we are in Daylight Savings Time or Standard Time. My watch can send me messages, work as a com-pass so I won’t get lost, and can even talk to me if I have a question. To be honest, there are still things I’m learning about my watch. One of the surprises I had recently was when in the middle of a sermon my watch alerted me to a severe thunderstorm with lightening was approaching. My watch told me to “seek shelter immediately!” Looking into today’s gospel lesson from Luke 12:49-56, it is clear that we sometimes pay more attention to alerts on wristwatches than we do to the alerts found in this text which have eter-nal consequences.
Jesus said, “When you see a cloud ris-ing in the west, you immediately say, ‘It is going to rain’; and so it happens. And when you see the south wind blowing, you say, ‘There will be scorching heat’; and it happens.”
What Jesus said next goes right to the
heart: “You hypocrites! You know how to inter-pret the appearance of earth and sky, but why do you not know how to interpret the present time?”
N.T. scholar, Alan Culpepper asks,
“What has suffered as a result of our misplaced focus of attention?” Today’s text challenges us to examine how we prioritize the insignificant over the things of greatest value and importance.
Pastor Bob

O may all who come behind us find us faithful. May the fire of our devotion light their way. May the foot prints that we leave lead them to believe, and the lives we live inspire them to obey. O may all who come behind us find us faithful. After all our hopes and dreams have come and gone and our children sift through all we've left behind, may the clues that they discover and the memories they uncover become the light that leads them to the road we each must find.
O may all who come behind us find us faithful.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ His only Son our
Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day He rose from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. +GLORIA PATRI

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
PRESENTING OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS
OFFERTORY ANTHEM “Find Us Faithful” John Nohr (Please sign and pass the attendance pad) We're pilgrims on the journey of the narrow road and those who've gone before us line the way, cheering on the faithful, encouraging the weary, their lives a stirring testament to God's sustaining grace. Surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses let us run the race not only for the prize, but as those who've gone before us, let us leave to those behind us the heritage of faithfulness passed on through godly lives.
