Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession (in unison)

Lord God, forgive us, your people, for faith that expects little and

*Affirmation of Faith (in unison) (Ushers gather in the narthex at this time.)

In faith, we acknowledge that God has acted in the past, in a holy history.

In faith, we confess that God seeks to rule our lives today.

In faith, we affirm that God continues to send prophets and willing vessels

to guide the course of all history toward its end.

In faith, we imagine that end to be characterized by the traits we find in

Jesus Christ: compassion, justice, and love.

In faith, we long to be a part of that purpose.

Amen.

Mission Emphasis for May – Birthday Offering

First Presbyterian Church

of Delhi, New York Church Life: May 7, 2017

Our Good Shepherd calls us into the safekeeping of this fold. May all gathered here feel the welcome and love of God in Christ.

Lord, you are my Shepherd. Thank you for providing everything I need. Amen.

We invite everyone to take a moment during the offertory to sign the Church Attendance Register. A special welcome

is extended to all who are visiting with us this morning. We hope that your worship experience will be meaningful and enjoyable. If you are interested in learning more about First Presbyterian Church or becoming a member of this congregation, please speak with Pastor Lisa Ruth, the Church Office or any Elder.

COFFEE HOUR will be held today in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the Worship Service. EVERYONE is invited to this time of fellowship. Please join us this morning!

This morning we WELCOME the Rev. Dr. Lisa Ruth Mays as our Interim Pastor. Pastor Lisa writes: “Greetings from Lisa Ruth, your Interim Pastor. I have been in Delaware County for nearly 9 years. I moved from Walton, Indiana to Walton NY. This is always a good conversation starter for people I meet, at the gym for example. It is the opportunity to be friendly and authentic regarding my faith in God and trust in God’s ways. I was ordained as a Minister of Word and Sacrament in 2002; a second (or third) career. I am a native Californian who was trained and happily busy in music and the performing arts before feeling called to seminary. I look forward to hearing some of your own stories in the coming months.” We look forward to our spiritual growth both individually and as a church during our time together.

The FLOWERS this morning are given in honor of Sherry Cooke, our Sexton for the CE wing, Kitchen and all bathrooms! Sherry and her husband Richard will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary on Tuesday, May 9th. Congratulations to Sherry and Richard and Thank you Sherry for all your hard work and dedication.

The TRUSTEES responsible for counting today are Bruce Burr and Ed Goff. The Trustees responsible for counting on May 14 are Art Maxwell and Tom Leo.

CHILDREN’S WORSHIP BAGS are available in the hospitality room on the shelves. Children are welcome to select a bag with items of their choosing to use during worship. CHILDREN’S BULLETINS are also available. The CHILD CARE ROOM will be available to parents today during the worship service. Child care is usually provided from after the children's sermon until the end of worship most Sundays.

The CHILDREN'S SUNDAY SCHOOL at First Presbyterian is now an all ages class where students will use their imagination through LEGO© creations to experience their faith and the biblical story. Join us each Sunday morning at 9:30 am and see God at work, brick by brick. If you are interested in helping to lead the class, contact the Christian Ed Committee for more information.

The Kirk Thrift Shoppe welcomes Reverend Dr. Lisa Mays as our Church family's interim pastor! We still have a good selection of gifts for Mother's Day next Sunday, May 14th. Also we have some beautiful Prom Dresses and Wedding Attire so please stop in next Friday or Saturday from 9AM to 2PM. Be sure to check our Facebook page as Polly DellaCrosse and Bonnie Fleming have completed a beautiful quilt to donate to the Delaware County Office for the Aging which will be selling raffle tickets throughout the summer. You will see pictures on Facebook. These two wonderful ladies donated their time, talent and the fabric and The Kirk donated the professional quilting. It is truly gorgeous! Many thanks to them both.

It is time to think about adding some color and beauty to the front and back of our Church. We are looking for a volunteer or volunteers to head up the geranium/ flower planting and care this summer. If interested, please contact Erica Cantwell, Bruce Burr or Nancy in the Church Office by May 22.

A CALL has been issued by the Session for a Congregational meeting, to be held at the beginning of worship on Sunday, May 14, 2017. The purpose of the meeting will be to

elect one Deacon to fill the vacant position on the Board of Deacons. No other business may come before the congregation at this time.

Thought for today: “Do not be afraid of tomorrow, for God is already there.” —Unknown

Thoughts on Giving: “And Peter said to them, ‘Repent, and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ…” ACTS 2:38

The word “repent” means to turn from sin, to change our actions. When it comes to change, do we take responsibility for change or do we think that others have to change instead? Change that is permanent comes from within, we must take control and be disciplined. Remember though that we are not alone, Jesus is there to help lighten the load. Stewardship Prayer: That as we struggle to live a faith-filled life, we recognize we are not alone. Jesus is there to help lighten the load.
