CALL TO WORSHIP
In Love God created everything
that was and is and ever shall be.
We adore our God,
who so wonderfully created.
God is not finished creating yet,
have patience with me.
The peace of God is waiting
to enter each of our lives.
Let us be a part of this love.
Let us spread it to those around us.
*HYMN: “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God” PH #363 blue
PRAYER OF INVOCATION
Dear God, we thank you for those who redeemed our faith for us in
the past. For those who being “justified by faith” devoted their lives to
the practices that made true faith a living reality. We thank you for those
who not only opened their Bibles, but let their lives - - in believing
“every person is a priest”- - adjusted their speech, their behavior, their
bone and marrow, to become the living faith of God.
O Jesus, our Savior, we thank you for the high calling that makes
every worker - - the butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker - -
understand their tasks are a glory to God. By serving others, by
sacrificing for those they love, they reawaken the central purpose of life,
to build redemptive community - - alieving hunger, providing health,
warming homes, and setting an example for those who will provide in
our future.
O Holy Spirit, help us to measure ourselves by how we unlock your
servant-spirit with courage and eagerness, so as we reach out to others,
welcoming them to the grace of God, we all may be blessed. Make us
not only faithful servants but also willing participants in the glories of
God’s service. Grant this, we pray, through Jesus Christ, who taught us
to say …
*THE LORD'S PRAYER Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on
earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we
forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory forever. Amen.
*GLORIA PATRI Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is
now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen
SCRIPTURE READING: Romans 5:1-11
ANTHEM: “How firm a foundation”
Text: Attributed to Robert Keen (c. 1787)
Tune: Attributed to J. Ellis, ca. 1889
Arrangement by Mack Wilberg (b. 1955)
How firm a foundation, ye Saints of the Lord,
Is laid for your faith in His excellent word!
What more can He say than to you he Hath said,
Who unto the Savior for refuge have fled?
In ev’ry condition- in sickness, in health,
In poverty’s vale or abounding in wealth,
At home or abroad, on the land or the sea-
As thy days may demand, so thy succor shall be.
Fear not, I am with thee; oh, be not dismayed,
For I am thy God, and will still give thee aid.
I’ll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand,
Upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand.
The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose
I will not, I cannot, desert to his foes;
That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
I’ll never, no never, no never forsake!

OFFERTORY SENTENCE
OFFERTORY ANTHEM: “Built on a Rock the Church Shall Stand”
Text by Nikolai Grundtvig (1783-1872)
Tune by Ludvig Lindeman (1812-1887)
Arrangement by Dale Wood (1934-2003)
Built on a rock the Church shall stand,
Even when steeples are falling.
Crumbled have spires in every land;
Bells still are chiming and calling,
Calling the young and old to rest,
Calling the souls of those distressed,
Longing for rest everlasting.
Not in our temples made with hands
God, the Almighty is dwelling.
High in the heavens his temple stands,
All earthly temples excelling.
Yet he who dwells in heaven above
Deigns to abide with us in love,
Making our bodies his temple.
We are God’s house of living stones,
Built for his own habitation;
He fills our hearts, his humble thrones,
Granting us life and salvation.
Were two or three to seek his face,
He in their midst would show his grace,
Blessings upon them bestowing.
Through all the passing years, O Lord,
Grant that, when church bells are ringing,
Many may come to hear God’s Word
Where he this promise is bringing:
I know my own, my own know me;
You, not the world, my face shall see;
My peace I leave with you. Amen.
*DOXOLOGY Praise God from whom all blessings flow, Praise God all creatures here below,
Praise God above ye heavenly host, Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
