BISHOP DAVID J. WALKOWIAK ASKS US TO

PRAY FOR OUR SEMINARIANS

Loving God, Raise up dedicated leaders who will shepherd your people and guide them to your Son. Give generous and willing hearts to the seminarians of our Diocese who have heard your call to live a life of service to the Church. Help us to encourage and support them as they strive to become priests who are models of discipleship, possessors of wisdom and on fire with love for your people. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

We especially pray for: Anthony Preston

Scrip News: Thank you to our 20 families that pur-

chased Scrip this week. Our total earnings were $381.78.

Church Chuckle A priest waited in line to have his car filled with gas just before a long holiday weekend. The attendant worked quickly, but there were many cars ahead of him. Finally, the attendant motioned him toward a vacant pump. “Reverend,” said the young man, “I’m so sorry about the delay. It seems as if everyone waits until the last minute to get ready for a long trip.” The priest chuckled, “I know what you mean. It’s the same in my business.”

Diaconate Aspirancy Process: At this time, the

Diocese of Grand Rapids is accepting inquiries from men interested in the diaconate. To be considered, an applicant must be a Roman Catholic at least 30 years of age (minimum age for ordination is 35), who is an active mem-ber of his parish (located within the Diocese of Grand Rap-ids) with the support of his Pastor. He must be in good health, of sound moral character, mature faith, regular prac-tice in the sacramental life of the Church, and have a sense of vocation to service. If married, he must be in a valid Catholic marriage for a minimum of five years, have the support of his wife and family, and be in a strong, stable marriage. If unmarried, he must be willing and able to com-mit to celibacy. Although an upper age limit for application has not been established, the expectation is that ordained deacons will have the health and energy to provide a mini-mum of ten years of ordained ministry to the Diocese of GR. Baby Bottle Drive—Pregnancy HELP has

been serving Grand Rapids on the west side since 1973, over 40 years of caring support for those in need, supplying resources and baby essentials for their children up to the child’s second birthday. Last year we had 4,707 visits to our center, our over 50 volunteers met all the needs with care and compassion. Supporting your St. Mary’s Mother’s Day/Father’s Day bottle drive will benefit HELP’s ministry in so many ways: Keeping us sup-plied with some of our most needed baby essentials such as diapers, wipes, formula, bottles, baby wash and lotion. We provide pack-n-plays for safe sleeping for those who do not have a crib for their baby. We provide walk-in hours for a free ultrasound for those who are abortion minded, this service has the cost of providing a qualified ultrasound tech on staff. Ultrasound and knowing caring support are available, Priceless! These are the ways your donation will be put to use, going directly to those who need it. I hope you will say a little prayer with every penny, nickel, dime and quarter that is placed in the bottle; because it’s through prayer lives are touched and healed. God Bless you and may the blessings you bestow on us return to you hundredfold. Thank you, Paula Veneklase, Director, HELP Pregnancy Crisis Aid Please pick up a Baby Bottle from the Narthex Mother’s Day weekend and fill with your “extra change” between May 8 –June 19. Please return Father’s Day Weekend. Thank You!
