There were 7 people on the fishing boat. Each person caught 5 fish.

How many fish did they catch in all?

Word Problems

Joe caught a fish that was 27 inches long. Molly

caught a fish that was 15 inches long. How much

longer was Joe’s fish than Molly’s?

The fishing boat left the dock at 9 o’clock in the

morning. It returned to the dock at 2 o’clock in the

afternoon. How long was the boat out?

There were 21 people on the fishing trip. Twelve people each caught one

fish. Everyone else caught 3 fish each. How many fish did they catch altogether?

The Parkers went to play putt-putt. Mr. Parker got a 45. Mrs. Parker got a 43. Jason got a 51. Jessie got a 50. What was their total

score?

Workshop

After reading Rainbow Fish, color your own Rainbow Fish. Using glitter glue, make 1 “special” scale.

-On writing paper, write complete sentences to answer…What makes you special?

-Glue it to the middle of your fish.

How many words can you build using the letters in “butterfly”?Challenge: Use the word “caterpillar”.

Problem of the DayThere were 6 eggs on a

leaf. 2 hatched into beautiful butterflies.

The other 4 were eaten by birds. I saw the two butterflies when I was

playing on the playground. They had 4 orange spots on each wing. How many spots

did I see?

I was making the most delicious trail mix. I

used 4 marshmallows, 8 M & M’s, 6 Skittles,

and 12 Cheerios. How many pieces of trail

mix did I have to eat?

Use glitter glue to add fireflies to

your jar.

Firefly Jars

Carefully, glue the edge of wax paper to the jar.

Glue down an aluminum foil lid.

Writing Word Problems• Directions: Write your word problem on an index card

and glue to the back of your firefly jar.

• Sample: I started my firefly hunt in my backyard just as it started getting dark. I quickly found 4 fireflies and put them carefully in my jar. Oh! 2 more over by the big tree. I wasn’t able to catch those—they were too quick. There were three more hanging out in the garden. I got them quickly. How many fireflies did I have at the end of the night?

• Trade problems with a classmate and solve on a separate piece of paper

Making Smores—YUMMY!!!

Add a small piece of chocolate.

Place other half of Graham Cracker on top

of chocolate. Smush down and enjoy!

Spread Marshmallow Fluff neatly onto the

Graham Cracker with a spoon.

Break a Graham Cracker in half. Lay half of cracker down for the

bottom of your sandwich.

Problem of the Day: I went to 6 field day stations. It took my 3 minutes at each station. How long was I at the 6 stations altogether?
