1 Details of classified product

1.1 General

The elements, plastic, aluminium composite and metal (steel, copper, …) pipes, sealed by means of Hilti Firestop Double Board Seal with Hilti Firestop Coating CFS-CT and Hilti Firestop Wrap CFS-W P in combination with Hilti Firestop Acrylic Sealant CFS-S ACR are defined as multiple penetration seals. It is evaluated in respect of the fire performance characteristics given in clause 5 of EN 13501-2:2007+A1:2009.

1.2 Description

More information about the used products is provided in § 1.2.4. Additional description. All the specifications given in § 1.2.4 are valid for the seal design variations below.

All information and definitions about orientation, supporting construction, multiple pipe penetrations including plastic, aluminium composite and metal (steel, copper, …) pipes and service support construction are provided in § 3.3. Field of direct Construction.

1.2.1 Seal design variations – flexible wall construction

Following variations of seal design have been used for multiple pipe penetration seals in a flexible wall construction (thickness: 100 mm), constructed as prescribed in the European Standard EN 1366-3:2009 § 7.2.2 Standard supporting constructions:

Plastic pipes:

i) a double board seal (type: Hilti Firestop Double Board Seal with Hilti Firestop Coating CFS-CT), a pipe sealing (type: Hilti Firestop Wrap CFS-W P) and an annular sealing (type: Hilti Firestop Acrylic Sealant CFS-S ACR);

ii) a double board seal (type: Hilti Firestop Double Board Seal with Hilti Firestop Coating CFS-CT), an elastomeric foamed thermal pipe insulation (type: Armaflex AF Microban – position: continued, sustained (CS)), a pipe sealing (type: Hilti Firestop Wrap CFS-W P) and an annular sealing (type: Hilti Firestop Acrylic Sealant CFS-S ACR).

Metal pipes:

iv) a double board seal type: Hilti Firestop Double Board Seal with Hilti Firestop Coating CFS-CT), an elastomeric foamed thermal pipe insulation (type: Armaflex AF Microban – position: continued, sustained (CS)), an additional pipe protection (type: Armaflex adhesive tape – thickness: 3 mm – position: over a length of 50 mm around the pipe insulation), a pipe sealing (type: Hilti Firestop Wrap CFS-W P) and an annular sealing (type: Hilti Firestop Acrylic Sealant CFS-S ACR).

v) a double board seal type: Hilti Firestop Double Board Seal with Hilti Firestop Coating CFS-CT), an elastomeric foamed thermal pipe insulation (type: Armaflex AF Microban – position: continued, sustained (CS)), an additional pipe protection (type: duct tape – position: over a length of 200 mm around the pipe insulation), a pipe sealing (type: Hilti Firestop Wrap CFS-W P) and an annular sealing (type: Hilti Firestop Acrylic Sealant CFS-S ACR).

1.2.2.2 Double board seal

As given above the penetration seal is provided with a double board seal. This double board seal can be built up of two mineral wool boards, two Hilti Firestop boards CFS-CT B 1S 140/50 or two Firestop boards CFS-CT B 2S 140/50. Both visible sides have to be coated with one layer Hilti Firestop coating CFS-CT with a dry film thickness of at least 0.7 mm. The characteristics of the double board seal are given in the table below.

The boards are placed in the opening in the wall construction. They are placed against each other and the visible sides are installed flush with the wall surface.

The gap between the board and the supporting construction is filled with Hilti Firestop Acrylic Sealant CFS-S ACR.

1.2.2.3 Pipe sealing

The used pipe sealing plastic, aluminium composite and metal (steel, copper, …) pipes is the Hilti Firestop Wrap CFS-W P. This is a graphite based strip with a width of 50 mm and a thickness of 2 mm. The length depends on the diameter of the pipe and the construction group. The wrap comes 5 mm further than the wall surface.

3.3 Field of direct construction

3.3.1 Orientation

− the results of seal designs i), ii), iii), iv) and v) are applicable in a wall.

3.3.2 Supporting construction

a) flexible wall constructions – seal designs i), ii), iii), iv) and v):

− the test results may be applied to all flexible wall constructions with a 90 minute fire resistance classification provided: − the construction is classified in accordance with EN 13501-2; − the construction has an overall thickness equal to or greater than 100 mm; − two layers of gypsum boards – overall board layer thickness: 12.5 mm –

are applied on both sides of the construction; − flexible walls with timber studs are constructed with two layers of gypsum

boards on both sides, no part of the penetration seal is closer than 100 mm to a stud, the cavity is closed between the penetration seal and the stud, and minimum 100 mm of insulation of class A1 or A2 according to EN 13501-1 is provided within the cavity between the penetration seal and the stud;

− the test results cover only constructions with aperture framing; − the test results do not cover sandwich panel constructions and flexible walls

where the lining does not cover the studs on both sides; − the test results may be applied to concrete or masonry elements of an overall

thickness equal to or greater than 100 mm.

3.3.3 Field of direct application of multiple pipe penetration seals including metal (steel, copper,…) pipes insulated with elastomeric foamed thermal pipe insulation

a) pipe diameter and pipe wall thickness: see tables above; b) pipe materials with a thermal conductivity lower than tested are covered, subject to

material having a melting point at least equal to that of the material tested or higher than 738°C for a classification time of 15 minutes, 781°C for 20 minutes, 842°C for 30 minutes, 902°C for 45 minutes, 945°C for 60 minutes, 1006°C for 90 minutes, 1049°C for 120 minutes, 1110°C for 180 minutes, 1153°C for 240 minutes;

c) the test results cover pipes with clustered and linear separation;

additional protection; − the range for the pipe insulation thicknesses is given above; − there is no limit for the maximum thickness of the insulation; − the density of the insulation may be increased but may not be reduced; − no extension to the range of pipe insulation materials is permissible beyond that

tested; f) pipe orientation

− the pipes may only be installed horizontal, perpendicular to the penetration seal.

− the maximum pipe wall thickness tested with the maximum pipe closure device size, corresponding with the maximum tested pipe diameter for a certain fire resistance classification period, is valid for smaller pipe closure device sizes, corresponding with smaller pipe diameters;

e) pipe orientation

− the pipes may only be installed perpendicular to the penetration seal; f) separations

− the annular space between the pipe and the supporting construction, defined as a1 (the distance between the pipe sealing and the top edge of the penetration seal);

− the separation a2 (the distance between the pipe sealing and the edge of the penetration seal);

− the separation a3 (the distance between the pipe sealing of adjacent penetration seals);

− the separations above are defined in Figure E.1 – Standard configuration for multiple pipe penetration seals, may be increased – see tables in § 3.2.

g) pipe insulation

− the uninsulated pipes in the test results do not cover insulated pipes; − the sustained insulated pipes cover interrupted insulated pipes;

3.3.5 Service support construction

− The distance from the wall surface to the nearest support position is equal to or smaller than 250 mm.
