VIRGINIA TUITION ASSISTANCE GRANT

! For full-time, Virginia domiciled students attending a private college or university in Virginia

! Award amount: $3,300 for 2017-2018

! Application due to SU by July 31, 2017

!Once eligible, approved for 8 semesters total

! Student must contact the Office of Financial Aid if any changes in enrollment or residency

! Must complete Entrance Counseling & Master Promissory Note (MPN) at www.studentloans.gov

! Repayment begins 6 months after graduation or less than half-time enrollment

! Interest Rate: 3.76%; 1.069% Origination Fee

! Two Types of Federal Student Loans:o Subsidized (need-based)o Unsubsidized (non need-based)

! Repayment Options:o Payments are typically divided into a ten-year repayment

! Can add to the loan amount each year and no penalty for early repayment

! Interest Rate: 6.31%; 4.276% Origination Fee

ALTERNATIVE/PRIVATE STUDENT LOANS

! These loans are not part of the Federal Student Aid Program

! Students must choose a private lending institution

! Credit based; student may be the primary borrower, but a cosigner will be required

! Variable or fixed interest rate; typically based upon the Prime or LIBOR rates

! In most cases, SU will be required to certify the student’s enrollment and eligibility

WORK STUDY JOBS! On-campus positions

! Students work 8-10 hours/week

! Pay starts at $8.20

! Students paid bi-weekly for hours worked

! Amount listed on award letter is the maximum a student can earn

! Students are placed in a job based on completed placement form
