Financial Inclusion
Is it a basic Human Right?
No one can thrive in today’s global economy using cash alone.
Cash is slow, expensive, and risky. People can’t create
a financial profile when they use only cash. .
Yet over 2 billion people
and small businesses in the world
conduct all of theirfinancial transactions
in cash and have limited
access to finance.
Without access to financial services, entrepreneurs can’t create jobs or increase income.
But there are better options.
Technology can increase access to financial services.
And pave the wayto financial inclusion.
What is financial inclusion?
Financial Inclusionmakes a range of affordable financial services accessible to the unbanked and underbanked, including
• Bank accounts• Insurance• Individual and
business loans• Mortgages
With access to finance, individuals, families, andsmall businesses establish a financial profile that helps them secure bank accounts and loans and reduces their risk of
falling back into poverty.
Innovative technologies such as mobile moneycan increase access to finance. Mobile money allows
people to complete financial transactions using their mobile phones.
With mobile money, micro-businesses can buy and sell with e-money, establish a financial profile, and qualify for growth capital and other
financial products and services they need to successfully compete against larger companies.
To increase financial inclusion, mobile moneymust be fully accessible and affordable to unbanked
and underbanked populations.
Accessible mobile money products are affordable,user-friendly, convenient, and secure.
When unbanked consumers and small businesses adopt mobile money as a tool for financial inclusion, they unleash a wave of innovation that generates prosperity and financial security for millions.
