VAATSALYA TIMES SPOT LIGHTNOVEMBER - DECEMBER
You must be the change you want to see in the world. Mahatma Gandhi
Modern healthcare facilities, with their diversity and complexity,
pose extreme challenges in coordination and timely delivery that
can drive the success or failure of the hospital projects. Change is
the nature of the healthcare industry and construction costs can
quickly escalate as owners try to keep pace with emerging trends
and equipment innovations. . Vaatsalya harbou rs both
Greenfield as well as for Brownfield Projects, the challenges are
more for Brownfield projects in terms of renovation of existing
structure as per the requirement whereas in Greenfield Projects
proper planning and timely execution is required to complete a
successful project says Mr Ashok ,Assistant Project Manager,
Hubli
Hubli project is a stepping stone to success. This is a 100 bedded
hospital project which is the biggest set up across network
hospitals of Vaatsalya. There were many challenges that came
across as this area was severely affected by floods at the time of
execution of this project. Another challenge was manpower
scarcity which was already prevailing and floods contributed to
make the scenario worse. However, the project was completed in
four months timeframe.
Dr Anil Bidri (Senior Project Manager) says, healthcare modeling
projects typically varies in nature according to the needs of the
client and the hospital system under consideration. The projects
for Vaatsalya which are affected by constantly changing, growing
liability concerns, and the exploding needs of rapidly advancing
medical and telecommunication technologies, face increased
pressure to deliver projects on time and within budget while
maintaining their profitability.
The main factors for challenges in hospital projects would
involve mainly scale, complexity and change . The scale of
Vaatsalya healthcare Solutions is remarkable as its emerging as
leading star in north and south Karnataka with 10 operational
units completed in a span of over 4 years . With over 700
employees working at different locations across Karnataka, it is
unsurprising that complexity exists within all levels of healthcare
services with the organizational structure and activities. The field
in which Vaatsalya is operating is also seemingly in constant
change .Often a change at one level of an organization can
impact in an unforeseen way on o ther levels of operation., says Dr
Anil Bidri , Senior Manager , Projects .
The procurement of medical
equipments (within budget) and
timely delivery as per the timeframes
is another challenging task.
Procurement at Vaatsalya is a
centralized process and the main
challenge lies in timely delivery,
complete supplies and efficient
coordination across. Procurement is a
cyclic process which requires a
sequence of steps , the timetable of which is clearly specified and
closely followed . Budgeting is another arena to consider as
maintenance costs are also taken into consideration to optimize
resources effectively and get the most out of investment done
and the resources available. Says Dr Madhuri Umeshchandra
Project Coordinator, Bangalore
To overcome these challenges, project team at Vaatsalya hasdedicated Personnel with assorted responsibilities and dedicated
approach to execute the assigned tasks effectively. The entire
project of Vaatsalya is classified broadly into Planning Phase and
Execution Phase which takes care of entire project management
activities of Vaatsalya.
The main challenges we face are in terms of keeping pace with
the budget and timely completion of civil renovation work for the
projects, which sometimes is demanding and challenging in case
of Brownfield Projects. To keep pace with the existing
infrastructure and renovation of the same with ongoing
operational activities is really tough and requires proper
planning and tremendous efforts. Also skilled manpowe
availability is a challenge across locations. Says M
Shanmugham, Senior Consultant-Civil.
Every Project completed is a learning process all have acquired
substantial knowledge and varied learning experiences from the
projects done till date .
