Prof.Y.P.Rama Subbaiah, Rector, and Prof.P.Raja Sekhar, Registrar, Prof.V.Chandrasekhara Rao, Principal, University College of Arts, Commerce & Law and Prof.B.Re Victor Babu welcomed the students. The Vice-Chancellor released the ‘STUDENT HANDBOOK 2014-15’on the occasion. In the meeting students were warned of the consequences of Ragging, eve-teasing and smoking in the University Campus. Prof.K.Venkata Rao, Librarian, ANU, explained about the library facilities while Dr.P.P.S.Paul Kumar, Principal, College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, informed the students of the sports facilities in the campus. Dr.B.Nagaraju, Co-ordinator, Centre for HRD and Coaching for Groups, spoke about Coaching provided for exams for Group services. Dr.K.Madhu Babu, Co-ordinator, Remedial Coaching, informed them of Remedial Coaching scheme while Dr.K.John Paul, Co-ordinator, UGC NET Coaching, spoke of the Coaching given for UGC NET exam. Dr.K.Sumanth Kumar, Co- ordinator, NSS, spoke of NSS activities. Dr.B.Jimmy Rani, Medical Officer, gave information about medical facilities for the students in the University Campus. MEETING WITH THE CHIEF MINISTER

The Vice-Chancellor Prof. K. Viyyanna Raomet the Honourable Chief Minister of AndhraPradesh Sri Nara Chandra Babu Naidu on 21-06-2014 to convey his respects. The Vice-Chancellorhanded over the vision document Perspective Planfor the Development of New Andhra Pradeshcompiled by the university for the progress of theresidual state of Andhra Pradesh after bifurcation.

The Chief Minister congratulated the effortsof the university in culling information pertaining tothe different aspects of the state development. TheRector Prof. Y.P. Ramasubbaiah and the RegistrarProf. P. Rajasekhar accompanied the Vice-Chancellor.

In the backdrop of the bifurcation of the state, theresidual state of Andhra Pradesh needs comprehensivedevelopment. ANU has taken up the preparation of a VisionDocument entitled Perspective Plan for theDevelopment of New Andhra Pradesh. A team of 28Professors and experts in different fields contributed tothe document their suggestions in 21 areas of developmentsuch as agriculture, industry, primary and higher education,infrastructure, electricity, solar power, town planning,science and technology, law, social welfare, women’swelfare, tourism, information & communication technology,e-governance, sports, biodiversity, financial capability etc.The Coordinator of the document was Prof. M. KoteswaraRao, Dept. of Economics. This document was releasedby the Vice-Chancellor on 06-06-2014. Present also in therelease function were Prof. Jyothi Viyyanna Rao, theRector, the Registrar, the Principals of the ANU CampusColleges and staff. The document was later handed overto the Chief Minister Sri Nara Chandra Babu Naidu bythe Vice- Chancellor.

VICE-CHANCELLOR INVITED TO SHARIt was a rare opportunity for the Vice-Chancellor Prof. K. Viyyanna Rao and Dean, Faculty of Engineering Prof. P.

Siddaiah to be invited to Sriharikota to witness the launching of PSLV-C 24 rocket on April 4, 2014. The invitation wasextended by Dr. M.Y.S. Prasad, Director of SHAR in Sriharikota. The discussions that followed between the Vice-Chancellorand SHAR officials included establishing a research centre of ISRO in ANU campus.

ANU College of Pharmaceutical Sciencesorganized a national workshop on ExperimentalPharmacological Techniques CPCSEA sponsored by theMinistry of Environment and Forests, Govt of India, during28-29 April, 2014, which evoked tremendous response fromthe students of various affiliated colleges. Experimentsdemonstrated in the workshop included animal handlingtechniques, biological sample collection, In-vitro tissueisolation, Anti- inflammatory activity, Analgesic activity, Anti-histaminic activity etc. 250 students from 25 affiliatedcolleges, staff and participated in the workshop.

PHARMACOLOGY WORKSHOP

An Animal House was inaugurated on ANUCPScampus on 28 April, 2014 by Smt. Prema Mohan, UnderSecretary, CPIO, Ministry of Environment & Forests, Govt.of India. She examined all the facilities provided in theAnimal House to carry out pharmacological experimentsand suggested improvisations that can be taken up. Prof.K. Viyyanna Rao, Vice-Chancellor, ANU, Prof.Y.P. Rama Subbaiah, Rector, Prof.A. Prameela Rani, Principal, ANUCPS, attended the function.

INAUGURATION OF ANIMAL HOUSE

NCC COLONEL AWARD FOR VICE-CHANCELLOR

The Vice-Chancellor of Acharya NagarjunaUniversity Prof. K. Viyyanna Rao was selected for theHonorary Colonel Award by the National Cadet Corps.The NCC Group Commander Colonel K.S. Narendra Babuissued the certificate on behalf of the Government of India.The investiture ceremony in this regard took place onMay 17, 2014. Several university officials, and staffcongratulated the Vice-Chancellor on attaining thisdistinction. Some of the former Vice-Chancellors of ANUwere also conferred this award in the past.

ANNUAL DAY CELEBRATIONSANU College of Pharmaceutical Sciences

celebrated Annual Day on May 5, 2014. Prof. K. ViyyannaRao, Vice Chancellor, ANU, presided over the function. SriBhaviri Ravi, mimcry artist (TV 9 fame) and Sri L.Venkateshwarlu, Singer, were Guests of Honour whoentertained the crowd with their arts. Prof. A. PrameelaRani, Principal, ANUCPS, presented the Annual Report ofthe college for the academic year 2013-2014. Prof. JyothiViyyanna Rao, Teaching, Non-Teaching staff and studentsparticipated in the celebrations.

CAMPUS PLACEMENTSUniversity Engineering College & Technology

organized a two day placement recruitment drive bymultinational companies like Accenture, Sara’s, CMC, N-Axison its premises on 13th & 14th June 2013. More than 500students from 40 different colleges attended the interviewout of which 57 students got selected for the companies bythe HR’S through Written Test, Group Discussion andInterviews.

The University College ofEngineering & Technology celebratedits Annual Day on 4th April 2014. Cineartist Sri S. Sivaji was the ChiefGuest in the morning session. Heexhorted the students to work forIndia by acquiring good value basededucation. Cine artist Sri Rajaattended as a Chief Guest for theevening function. He suggested thatall the students should utilize theirright to vote properly to bring forth a good government. Prizeswere awarded for the best students who excelled in bothacademic and extra-curricular activities followed by culturalactivities. Smt. K. UNICEF SEMINAR ON U.S.A. EDUCATION

An awareness programme was conducted atUniversity College of Engineering & Technology on 9th April,2014 on educational opportunities in USA for B.Tech.students. Representatives of United Nations International

Acharya Nagarjuna University opened a SatelliteData Analysis and Application Centre in collaboration withthe Indian Space Research Organization ( ISRO) on thepremises of University Engineering college. The Vice -Chancellor inaugurated the centre on 2nd June 2014, whichis useful academically for B.Tech., M.Tech. projects andPh.D. works. Satellite data is received from ISRO andanalyzation is done here. This data will be processed todifferent Government Departments like Mineral Dept.,Fisheries Dept., Urban and Rural Planning Depts. etc. forthe development of our state as well as our country.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering,University College of Engineering & Technology organizeda UGC. National seminar on Advances in Metal-MatrixComposites during 28-29 March, 2014. The Chief Guestfor the inaugural was Sri Srisha Kumar, Executive Director,Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (RINL), Visakhapatnam, whogave the keynote address. Dr. G. Appa Rao, Scientist-Gand Associate Director, DMRL, delivered a lecture on“Povodes Metallurgy techniques in defense applicationswhile Dr. A.V.S Chary, Associate Director, NTSL, DRDOVisakhapatnam, delivered a lecture on “StealthTechnologies. BHOOMI POOJA AT ONGOLE CAMPUS

ANU College of Sciences conducted INSPIREinternship program during 29th March to 2nd April 2014. Asper the guidelines 150 intermediate students who scoredmore than 90% from different colleges had registered forthe program.

The Valedictory function of the INSPIREprogramme was held on 2nd April, the Chief Guest for whichwas Prof. K. Narasimha Reddy, Vice-Chancellor, M.G.University, Nalgonda. He emphasized the importance ofScience and its research. Prof. K. Viyyanna Rao, Vice-Chancellor, ANU presided over the session.

SOLAR POWER PLANT AT ANU

Acharya Nagarjuna University has established yetanother Solar Power Plant in the ANU College ofEngineering Campus. Sri Gopinath Jatti, Superintendentof Police, Guntur Urban, inaugurated it on 3-04-2014. Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.V. Rao revealed that the university hasbeen utilizing solar power in a big way and that theAdministrative building, Library and Center for DistanceEducation buildings are already running on solar power.ANU was also awarded first prize under the category ofhigher educational institutions at the state level in theutilization of solar power. BOARD OF STUDIES MEETINGA meeting of the Boards of Studies of different

disciplines took place in the university on 17-05-2014.The Vice-Chancellor initially addressed the joint meetingof the Boards. The university is planning to make fieldwork mandatory in the fourth semester for Sciences,Pharmacy, Statistics, Engineering and Managementcourses. In order to equip the students with employabilityskills, field work or internship will provide the necessarypractical exposure. The Vice-Chancellor said that this willbe beneficial to both students and the industry. Later theindividual Boards of Studies met in the respectivedepartments to deliberate upon matters of syllabus,research and evaluation.

CENTRE FOR ONLINE EDUCATION

Acharya Nagarjuna University, has launched itspremium Online Programmes for the benefit of the students.Both domestic Indian Students, Students of NRI status andstudents of other Nations can now, reap the benefits of highereducation from Acharya Nagarjuna University through the“Centre for Online Programmes”.

The University started Distance Mode of Education inthe year 2003 and helped lakhs of students to enhance theirrespective academic qualifications. Now, this is a newinitiative converging the latest technological advancementsincluding cloud computing and that of Academic excellenceto provide ‘online Education’. The course material, repletewith video lectures, audio books, textual study material andanimated content, created by veteran professors andindustry experts, provides the type of interactivity thestudents have been looking for. The students of thesecourses will be provided with their unique user ID andpasswords, using which the students can access theirpersonalised course pages on the University LearningManagement System. The students shall be able to rewindand revise the lectures at their own will.

The University will also be launching its mobileinterface which can be downloaded by the students on theirsmart phones, thereby making m-learning a reality. Studentsshall be able to access the full course content and also chatwith the professors online on their smart phones. Theuniversity has also made the provision for the students toavail themselves of the off-line content for their mobile

phones. The students shall be able to access the digitalcontent without the need for any Internet connection. Thisfeature of the online program shall be beneficial for thestudents of the state who hail from remote and far-flungareas with little or no Internet connection. Progress of thestudents is reviewed, monitored and guided online by wayof SMS, e-Mail, IVRS and by a dedicated Call Centre. Forthe conduction of the programs and efficient student support,the University has partnered with Schoolguru EduservePvt Ltd, a specialised Academic Support Servicesorganisation with proven skillset to run and manage Onlineprograms for Indian Universities. Schoolguru Eduserve Pvt.Ltd. is also supporting this venture by way of setting up of aAudio-Video recording studio in ANU campus to record videolectures by experts.

The entire process of admission, document verification,payment of fees, approvals and teaching shall be conductedonline. Examinations, Assignments, Evaluation, Marks listgeneration and also the award of the degree is programmedto be online. ANU also is one of the first Indian GovernmentUniversities to launch the Online Examinations for all itsstudents enrolling for the said courses. The platform withits ERP, its integrated Learning Managed System and itsMobile Application is rugged, scalable and time tested. AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON BANKING

The Dept. of Commerce & Business Administrationconducted an awareness programme for MBA students on“Job Potential in the Banking Sector”. Addressing thestudents, Andhra Bank Chairman Sri CVR Rajendran saidthat employment opportunities are abundant in the bankingsector compared to the software sector. He encouragedthe students to pursue their career in banking for greaterprogress.

NEW BUILDING FOR ANDHRA BANK IN ANUFoundation was laid for a new building of Andhra

Bank, ANU branch, in the campus by Andhra BankChairman Sri CVR Rajendran. NSNIS Six Weeks Certificate Course – 2014

Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports, Patiala,has allotted an extension center to Acharya NagarjunaUniversity for conducting the six weeks certificate coursein five games i.e., Athletics, Hockey, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho &Softball on the campus from 15 May to 24 June, 2014. Thisis the third time that the University has conducted thiscourse. Considering the rich Sports background of theUniversity and the available Sports Infrastructure, theNSNIS, Patiala, has chosen ANU as a centre to conductthe course. The Sports Authority of India has deputed sixcoaches and seven internship coaches for the conduct ofthis course. Eighty one players at National & Internationallevels from all over the country have participated in eightdisciplines i.e., Athletics-28, Hockey-16, Kabaddi-18, Kho-Kho-11 and Softball-8.

This course was inaugurated by Prof.K.ViyyannaRao, Vice-Chancellor, ANU on 23rd May, 2014 at ANU.Prof.Y.P. Ramasubbaiah, Rector, and Dr.P.Johnson, Vice-Principal, University College of Physical Education & SportsSciences of ANU were the Guests of Honour.

The Valedictory function for Six Weeks CertificateCourse was conducted on 24th June, 2014. Prof.K.ViyyannaRao, Vice-Chancellor, ANU was the Chief Guest of thefunction while Sri CBR Prasad, President, CBR Foundationfor Sports, Vijayawada, Prof. Y.P. Ramasubbaiah, Rector,of ANU were the Guests of Honour. Certificates weredistributed to the successful candidates of the course bythe Guests.

Physical Education Common Entrance Test(PECET) - 2014

The tests were conducted successfully and theresults were released on 28 June, 2014 by Prof. L.Venugopal Reddy, Chairman, A.P. State Council of HigherEducation, Hyderabad.

Organization of Inter-University TournamentsThe Association of Indian Universities has entrusted

the responsibility of conducting the All India Inter-UniversityBaseball (Men & Women) Tournaments to AcharyaNagarjuna University for the academic year 2014-15.

World University Weightlifting (Men & Women)Team Selections

The Association of Indian Universities has entrustedthe responsibility of conducting Selection Trials of the IndianUniversities Weightlifting team selections to AcharyaNagarjuna University for the year 2014. The Selection trialsare scheduled in the last week of August, 2014. The selectedteam will participate in the World University WeightliftingChampionships to be held at Chiang Mai, Thailand, during5-8 December, 2014.

As per the directions of A.P. State Council of HigherEducation, Hyderabad, Acharya Nagarjuna Universityconducted the PECET-2014 for 15,782 candidates. PECET-2014 was inaugurated by Prof. L. Venugopal Reddy,Chairman, A.P. State Council of Higher Education,Hyderabad. Prof.K.Viyyanna Rao, Vice-Chancellor,Prof.Y.P.Rama Subbaiah, Rector and Prof.P.Rajasekhar,Registrar, ANU, graced the occasion. These tests wereconducted from 21 May to 18 June, 2014 at ANU campus.Physical Fitness tests were conducted for about 900candidates every day on the playgrounds.

ANU College of Physical Education & Sports Sciencessuccessfully conducted Annual Day Celebrations on 7th April2014 Prof.K.Viyanna Rao, Vice-Chancellor, ANU presidedover the function and Sri V.Manikyalu, Former Olympian &Sports Officer, Visakha Port Trust, Visakhapatnam was theChief Guest, Prof. Y.P. Ramasubbaiah, Rector, Prof.A.V.Dattatreya Rao, Officer on Special Duty, Prof.Y.Kishore,Dean, Dr. P. Johnson, Vice-Principal, were Guests of Honor.
