GENRE

• This film is a British Comedy-Drama, it highlights how traditional Asian family’s are and how strict parents are in showing there children what they should do with their lives. NARRATIVE

• The film begins by having the opening where the voiceover says ‘some girls only want one thing…but Jess Bhamra wants something more’ this shows the films storyline straight away, that Jess is not the ‘typical Asian girl’. We then gain a build up as we see the relationships build on different character, like how the mother does not like her daughter playing football one bit, we also see the relationship Jess has with the other guys on the football team, she seems to be ‘one of them’ in the way her characteristics are very tom boyish. We then see the problem occur, where her Jess wants to continue playing football but her parents want her to learn how to cook Indian meals etc. so that she can make a good Indian wife, we see the problem escalate as she meets many people along the way. The events take part throughout the trailer as we see Jess’s sisters wedding getting closer and the preparations which must be carried out, we also see events like Jess meeting many people and making friends.

MUSIC

• Music is used in the trailer but as a ‘on and off’ type of sound as the dialogue is more important in the trailer the music only comes into the scene less often to showcase the comical aspect of the trailer. The music is quite upbeat and of a medium pace, it includes percussion instruments to show the funny side of the story line. Near to the end of the trailer, opera like music is used to show the tension between the mother and Jess, but it is also used to mock the fact that this is such a big deal for the traditional mother.

SHOT TYPES/CAMERA ANGLES

• Many medium shots are used in the trailer to show the audience the character and some of there personality traits, close ups are used mainly of Jess as she is the main character, the close ups are also used to show her feet as when she is playing football we see her footwork to shoe that she is a good footballer.

PACE

• The pace of the start of the film is quite slow, the pace gets faster near to the middle of the film when we find out that the mother is completely against her daughter playing football, the music gets faster, and all of this makes the trailer even funnier as it highlights the hilarity of the situation.

DIALOGUE

• The dialogue in the film is the most important aspect in this trailer as it shows the narrative and the problem in the film, and shows how over the top the situation gets because the parents cannot accept Jess for who she is. The mother says ‘football, shutball’ this is to emphasize that she doesn’t care what it is called she just doesn’t want to tolerate her daughter playing it. It again highlights the funny side to the story as finding rhyming words can make a situation seem lighter and funnier to the audience.

VOICEOVER

• The voiceover in the trailer is as equally important as the dialogue this is because the voice over is able to make the situation and the storyline clear to the audience, so that we can get a grasp of what the film is about. Although it is only used at the start to show who Jess is and when they show that the director has made two best sellers before, it is mostly used at the end of the trailer to show what the film is about and then what it is called.
