From the Archives

From The Inquirer, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Saturday, April 9, 1910:

“There was a great surprise in Catholic circles when the inventory on the estate of Rev. Dr. P. J. McCullough, for 35 years rector of St. Mary’s Church, this city, was filed. It was supposed he left only a few thousand dollars, but the inventory showed an estate of $184,600 in gilt-edge securities. Under his will $1000 is for masses for himself, $1000 for masses for all members of St. Mary’s Church who died within 50 years, and $1000 to the poor of St. Mary’s. The balance of the estate is to be divided equally between the Little Sisters of the Poor of Philadelphia and his relatives. The Philadelphia charity will get about $85,000.”

Big News from the

Padre Pio Prayer Group! Moving forward, the Padre Pio Prayer Group will meet on the 4th Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm at San Juan Bautista, 425 South Duke Street, Lancaster. Our next meeting is Tuesday, February 25. Please join us!

Stewardship Tithing: God’s Plan for Giving

From the Rectory Office

From Fr. Brian. Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven (Matthew 5:16).

The generosity of being a good steward of your gifts has a positive effect on people, and it is contagious! Good works encourage more good works. Let your light shine!

Note from organization who received money from St. Mary’s Tithe the Tithe.

We want to express our gratefulness to you for your contributions during this past year. We, as a non-profit and listener-supported radio station, truly appreciated your kindness. We are happy that you have chosen us as one of your charities and hope that your support will be forthcoming in the new year. —Holy Family Radio

When the Holy Rosary is said well, it gives Jesus and Mary more glory and is more

meritorious than any other prayer.

Evangelization Ministry Spotlight: “EWTN Media Missionary.” Description: Since its founding by Mother Angelica in 1981, EWTN’s mission has been to spread the Eternal Word and to teach others that Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life through quality Catholic programming. Media Missionary volunteers respond to our calling from Christ to “make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19) by use of television, radio and print.

How to Participate: As a Media Missionary your task is to raise awareness of EWTN in your parish and community. There are many ways that you can volunteer. Help is especially needed in maintaining the list of volunteers across the diocese and making sure that every parish has an EWTN Media Missionary. If you can write a letter, talk on the phone, or distribute brochures and programming guides, you can help EWTN!

Please Note: Even if ministries are not currently asking for volunteers or participants, please ask to volunteer or participate. In most cases there is still a need, and, in all cases, we want everyone to experience the joy that comes from volunteering and participating.

VOLUNTEERS are CURRENTLY NEEDED for the following:

Community Meals Ministry – (6) Friday evenings a year (urgent need!)

• Hospitality Ministry - Flexible schedule

• Altar Cleaners – Once a month (approx. 30 minute commitment)

• Ave Maria Mass Choir — Four (4) weekends a year

If you have a desire to get involved in St. Mary’s Parish, contact Stephen Gambone. (Call/text and leave a message.) If you are a ministry leader looking for volunteers, contact him too. He will act as a liaison between all the ministries and the people behind the pew…YOU!!

Hulkin’ It. Our young Church continues to impress! Last week, we were “Hulkin’ It” and smashed bullying!!! We will probably repeat on a Sunday afternoon, so we will give you an update on this amazing night after the rerun, but we have bullying on the run! More to come…

Shadow Stations of the Cross – Please Join Us! Once again this year, the combined youth groups from St. Mary’s and St. John Neumann will be performing the Shadow Stations of the Cross. If you would like to participate in Shadow Stations as an actor/actress, reader, back stage or help with music, please contact Bob. The dates of the presentations are: Friday, March 13, 7:00 pm – St. Mary’s

Church Friday, April 10, 7:00 pm – St. John

Neumann Church

Works of Mercy (WOM) Week: July 26-31. Really Bob? We are going to start planning something for July in February? Believe or not, we need to start even earlier than last year. Why? We had almost 60 young people sign up for WOM Week last year and we may get more this year. But why plan earlier? Well, for 60 young people to do around 80 service trips throughout Lancaster County, we need YOU! We need around 40 chaperones to make this happen. To be a chaperone, you need youth protection clearances and they take a while to complete. Please watch the bulletin, Facebook and email for WOM adult information and recruiting sessions. You can also contact Bob via phone or email if you are interested in helping with WOM Week.

Upcoming Schedule. Friday, February 14, 5:30-6:30 pm—
