GOSPEL REFLECTION

This is what the parable of the Good Samaritan is about: being tied, being bound, and being wedded to others. We can imagine what was in this lawyer’s mind as he asked Jesus what he must “do to inherit eternal life”. It’s easy to guess what sort of answer he was hoping to hear when he asked, “And who is my neigh-bor?” He wanted Jesus to say something like: “Anyone within a one-mile radius is your neighbor,” in which case the lawyer would have moved into a deserted area where he could buy four square miles, so he could plant his house in the middle, and have no one any closer than a mile to him. In other words, we can im-agine that the lawyer asked his question in order to isolate him-self from others. But Jesus’ parable only forces him—and us—into even closer contact with others. He does this by telling His parable about the Good Samaritan. And so, the brief moral of this parable is that the person who’s looking to limit his love doesn’t know what love is really about. Putting limits on who we “have to love” is like say-ing that God loves some persons, but not others. Because we know that God loves everyone, even if you and I do not always love everyone. But if God loves someone, then we should also, since we’re supposed to live in the Image and likeness of God. If there’s someone we do not love, that says that we’re not living our lives in the same way that God does.

La para bola del Buen Samaritano nos habla de las limitacio-nes del ser Humano. El pecado nos limita a amar como Dios ama. El Maestro de la Ley le pregunto a Jesu s que quien era su pro jimo. El hizo esta pregunta esperando que Jesu s le contestara que el pro jimo es a quien a e l le agradara, pero no el que le desagrade. Jesu s nos ensen a a amar a todos sin distincio n, porque no podemos limitar el amor solo a los que nos hacen bien. Porque somos imagen de Dios estamos llamados a amar a todos nuestros hermanos sin importar su condicio n. El amor de Dios es infinito y universal. Solo el amor y el perdo n traen salvacio n al alma del ser humano. No limitemos nuestro amor a ciertos cí rculos pero de moslo en abundancia a todos los que nos rodean. La persona que limita su amor no conoce el verdade-ro amor, la persona que limita su ca-ridad no conoce la verdadera cari-dad.
