▪ Fieldbus is a network system for real-time distributed control

▪ It uses a digital, two-way, multidrop communication link to connectintelligent digital measurement and control devices

▪ Physical wiring, voltage levels for communication, timing, rules andvocabulary for the communication are defined by a protocolstandard.

▪ FOUNDATION Fieldbus H1 (FF-H1) and PROFIBUS PA (PA) are field-level communication protocols mainly used in Process Automation

▪ Data and power are being transmitted via the same single twisted-pair cable (+/-)

Host (FF) /Master (PA) (Gateway)

Controls / checks the segment and ensures communication. (First component of a segment)

Fieldbus Power Supply / Power Conditioner

Special power supply that offers power and communication on thesame twisted pair of cables. One per Segment needed.Typical output is 13 VDC … 30 VDC and 110mA … 500mA.

Trunk Main cable which is deployed along the entire segment.

Device Coupler Junction point between the segment trunk and field devices.

Spur Wire connection between devices and Trunk (Coupler).

Terminator Serve as a shunt for the fieldbus current and protect againstreflection. Two Terminators needed to operate properly. (1F 100)

High Power Trunk:

▪ Trunk is powered, non intrinsically safe

▪ Device couplers work like isolators to powerintrinsically safe devices (FISCO-devices).

Two Options to Design a Trunk & Spur Segment High Power Trunk vs. FISCO

FISCO:

▪ Trunk and Spurs are all intrinsically safe.

▪ Special FISCO power supply required (limitedavailable intrinsically safe energy)

Both options use the same intrinsically safe / FISCO certified fieldbus devices!

Inquiries with „FISCO installation“, „FISCO technology“, „FISCO required“need to be clarified. If only FISCO fieldbus devices are specified,a High Power Trunk Segment is also applicable.

High Power Trunk:

Max. Trunk length = 1900m (with repeater morethan 5000m)

Max. Spur length = 120m

Energy available for up to 16 devices

Redundant supplies available (more than FISCO)

Two Options to Design a Trunk & Spur Segment High Power Trunk vs. FISCO

FISCO:

Trunk is intrinsically safe – hot swap of wiringblocks allowed

Redundant supplies available

Trunk length 1000m max.

Spurs limited to 60m

Actual network size limited by low FISCO energy(12-13 V/ 130-265mA)Only FISCO fieldbus devices allowed on segment

Grounding and Shielding is important for immunity to noise of thesegment and an essential part for proper explosion protection.

Grounding and Shielding

• Single Point • Multi-point • Capacitive • Capacitive (Shield isolated)

Typical method for North American applications

Different earth points indifferent areas of a plant→ Earth points are bound together to equalize potential

Different earth points with different ground potentials. → capacitor avoids current on the shield.

For Couplers with galvanic isolation, the method of capacitive grounding can be applied separately for trunk and spur lines.

What is it About?

▪ Physical principles and definitions of explosion protection, such as zone classification andprotection types.

▪ Legal situation of the two-division model (North America) and the three-zone model (Europe andIEC countries) of hazardous locations.

→ Regardless of geographical location, physical principles of explosion protection are identical!

This presentation focus on the basics and does not replace relevantstudy of the application / region related regulations!

Physical Principles and Definitions

An explosion is a chemical reaction of a combustible substance with oxygen, resulting in the releaseof a high amount of energy. An explosion can only occur when following three factors are present atthe same time:

1. Flammable substance (gas, mist, vapor or dust)

2. Oxygen (air)

3. Ignition source (electrical or thermal)

All protection methods used today are based on eliminating one or more of these factors in order to reduce the risk of explosion to an acceptable level.

Avoiding the formation of

explosive atmospheres

Avoiding the ignition of

hazardous explosive atmospheres

Confining explosion impact to a

insignificant extent

Legal RegulationsWorldwide

Global Standard set by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC)→ IEC 60079.

The IEC drafted two standards according to their level of danger:

▪ IEC 60079-10-1: gas explosion hazardous area

▪ IEC 60079-10-2: dust explosion hazardous area

Note: IEC Standards are only meant as recommendations!

National regulations may differ from those standards.

Therefore, IEC introduced a procedure with the aim of worldwide standardization: IECEx Scheme.→ European Union ATEX, US UL and FM approvals still differ from IECEx.

Legal RegulationsEuropean Union

2014/34/EU (ATEX) European standard for explosion protection:

▪ IEC Standards for electrical equipment have generally been adopted by the EuropeanCommittee as they are

▪ Three-zone model (Zone 0-2 for gas and Zone 20-22 for dust)

▪ Eu requires special marking of devices:• CE Marking• Symbol with group category (gas group, equipment group) and additional

letter G (gas) or D (dust).

Page 21: Fieldbus-Infrastructure › fileadmin › secure › ...2018/11/19  · Fieldbus-Infrastructure 19th November 2018, Haar Mikail Aydin, Product Marketing Manager Process Automation

Classification of Hazardous Areas

Three-Zone Model:

Zone 0 Explosive atmosphere (air/gas) is continuously present or present for long periods

Zone 1 Explosive atmosphere (air/gas) is occasionally present in normal operation

Zone 2 Explosive atmosphere (air/gas) is rarely present but, if it is, only for short periods of time

Zone 20 Explosive atmosphere (air/dust) is continuously present or present for long periods

Zone 21 Explosive atmosphere (air/dust) is occasionaly present in normal operation

Zone 22 Explosive atmosphere of raised dust is unlikely to occur but, if it is, only rarely and for short periods of time

Page 22: Fieldbus-Infrastructure › fileadmin › secure › ...2018/11/19  · Fieldbus-Infrastructure 19th November 2018, Haar Mikail Aydin, Product Marketing Manager Process Automation

Legal RegulationsNorth America

USA: National Electrical Code (NEC)

Canada: Canadian Electrical Code (CEC)

▪ Hazardous atmospheres are named „hazardous (classified) locations“

▪ Traditionally, hazardous areas are classified into „Class“ and „Division“ in North America

▪ Newly installed systems for Class I & II must be certified according to IEC (zone classification).

Page 23: Fieldbus-Infrastructure › fileadmin › secure › ...2018/11/19  · Fieldbus-Infrastructure 19th November 2018, Haar Mikail Aydin, Product Marketing Manager Process Automation

Classification of Hazardous Areas

Two-Division model:

Class I (Gases and Vapors) Class II (Flammable Dust or Powder)

Class III (Flammable Fibers or Flyings)

Division 1 Continuously containing flammable gases, vapors or mist under normal operating conditions.

Continuously containing flammable dusts under normal operating conditions.

Continuously containing flammable fibers under normal conditions.

Division 2 Probably not containing flammable gases, vapors or mist under normal operating conditions.

Probably not containing flammable dusts under normal operating conditions.

Probably not containing flammable fibers under normal operating conditions.
