Acknowledgement The hand surgical team in Institute Kaplan was exceptionally kind and generously sharing there knowledge. As a resumé, I thank the team of the Institut Kaplan and especially Mr. Marc Garcia-Elias for the great teaching and wonderful stay and the FESSH Training Council for the generous travel award and my head of the department, Mr. Maurizio Calcagni M.D. that he let me go for two weeks to one of the best hand surgeons of the world. FESSH Travelling Award 2017 11.09.-23.09.2017 Institut Kaplan-Barcelona Objectives To expand my knowledge in hand surgery with a focus on wrist surgery and biomechanic To observe a different clinic`s routine including rounds, clinic hours and surgeries To learn new approaches to well established diagnosis Personal experience The first week I was in the operating room and clinic hours with Mr. Marc Garcia-Elias M.D., Ph.D. I could accompanied different interesting wrist surgeries from carpal fusions with cannulated compression screws to radial styloidectomy, waver procedure and matched ulna procedure and of course many, many more. Most patients arrive on the day of their surgery and many receive axillary blocks or bier block. But I could not only learned from the OR and clinical hours, Marc Garcia-Elias present all the fellow’s one of his excellent presentation of DRUJ instability and the basic concepts about the scapholunate instability. The second week I accompanied Jane Messina M.D. from Milano, Claudia Lamas-Gomez M.D. and Manual Llusa M.D. in the laboratory for dissection of ten cadavers to find out more about the histological structure of the capsulo-ligamentous attachments at scapho-lunate and luno-triquetral joints. During my short stay in Barcelona, I was fortunate enough to learn about many important concepts and techniques for difficult, complex problems. Fellowship activities When I arrived at the Institut Kaplan in Barcelona, Marc Garcia-Elias was welcoming me very warm- hearted, and presented me a lovely working place and even though he had a jet lag from coming back from the ASSH meeting in San Francisco, he went with me through the basic of wrist biomechanics and his latest research on it. During my stay I accompanied different members of the team as well in the operating room as during clinic hours.
