FEBRUARY 2017 NEWSLETTER
A LEGACY of GIVING
When you read this letter, we will have a new President; Donald Trump is our nation’s 45th Commander in Chief. And they said it would never last, wonder what George Washington would say. Think he would think about his own legacy or would he take a wider view and ponder our legacy as a nation? I looked at the plaque of our past Grand Knights in Mary’s Room at the last General Meeting. John Butler name is the latest great addition. Look at it when you get a chance and read the many outstanding names. Council 12022 has a strong lineage of outstanding leaders.
We had a breakfast meeting in early January, over lots of coffee and bacon we discussed how to distribute funds to char-ities. These funds came from two highly successful charitable events, KofC Golf Tournament and the Tootsie Roll Drive. There were eight Knights who attended and I think we all enjoyed the conversation and discussion. We made some good choices, some charities we have donated to in the past and we added a few new ones. Two of which I would like to spot-light.
St Agatha Center Food Pantry
This is a beautiful little church that has a long history of serving the poor.
“We, at St. Agatha Center, strive to address the material, educational and emotional needs of residents of the near South Side, mainly within the geographic boundaries of St. Agatha Parish. Since we operate as a food pantry, our main focus is to provide food for those in need. We also act as a resource for area residents by informing them of available social service agencies that can assist them with problems of health, education, employment and housing.”
I think we will have a long relationship with St Agatha.
The other new addition is Eye Care Charity of Mid America or ECCOMA. This 501C organization has provided over 250,000 students in the St Louis Area glasses of which they need but cannot afford. The great gift of vision for children learning to read is essential to compete in today’s world.
One other point about these two organizations, we have several St Alban Roe parishioners who presently volunteer their time to both off these organizations.
This is a part of our charitable giving legacy here at KofC Council 12022 and our Ladies Auxiliary. I believe this is a great start for a new year, thank you all for the work you do.

Meditation: Revelation 3:1-6, 14-22
"If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, then I will enter his house and dine with him, and he
with me." (Revelation 3:20)
How about a return to simplicity? In this letter to the believers in Laodicea, Jesus says: “Behold, I
stand at the door and knock” (Revelation 3:20). He then encourages them to do nothing more than
open the door. That’s a lot easier than a call to discipleship or a call to go out on mission. There’s no
real sacrifice yet, no dying to self. Just open the door. Why? Because Jesus wants to be with them. All
of that other stuff will come in his timing, but for now, just open the door.
Sometimes we can get a little mixed up in how we approach Jesus. We think that we have to get our
selves cleaned up before he can even speak with us, let alone “dine” with us! We think that we need to
be as close to perfect as possible if we want to enjoy a relationship with him. The trouble is, we typical
ly come up short. If this describes the way you think, you should meet Zacchaeus!
Zacchaeus is probably best known today for his diminutive stature. But in his own time, he was proba
bly best known for his reputation—which wasn’t squeaky clean. A tax collector working for the Ro
mans, he was known to extort money from his fellow Jews. But that didn’t matter to Jesus. He walked
right up to Zacchaeus and invited himself over for dinner. Zacchaeus not only gladly accepted the invi
tation, he was so touched that he vowed to give away half his money and right his wrongs. Jesus
knocked, Zacchaeus opened the door, and they dined together—in more ways than one!
Believe it or not, Jesus wants to dine with you. He’s knocking on the door of your heart right now. He
wants you to know that his mercy and grace are a lot bigger than your sin. So go ahead and open the
door today!
“Jesus, I believe, help my unbelief! I know I am unworthy, but I trust that you can heal me. Come into
my heart today, Lord. I want to share my life with you.”
Psalm 15:2-5; Luke 19:1-10
