Gosford Times 31st January 1918 Memorial Service

A united memorial service for Mr. William Bailey, who died some weeks ago, and for Gunner Darcy Fernance, recently killed in France, was held in the Anglican Church, St. Albans, on 13 the January. The church was crowded, and the Rev. F S Grif-fiths, the newly appointed Rector of St. Albans’ parish, preached a very impressive sermon. The church was draped in black, and wreaths made by Miss Ella Thompson were placed on the commun-ion table. After the service the wreaths were pre-sented by the rector to relatives of each of the de-ceased. Letters received by Mr. J D Fernance, fa-ther of the late Gunner Darcy Fernance, and Miss R Fernance, sister, from officers at the front, were read at the service, showing that our brave soldier was held in the very highest respect by his officers. Appropriate hymns were sung, and members of the congregation were visibly affected.

Gosford Times 26th September 1918 ST. ALBAN’S.

Owing to the temporary indisposition of the Rector of the Anglican Church, last Sunday evening’s me-morial and farewell service was held on Monday, 23rd instant, when Miss Pearl Fernance unveiled a tablet to the memory of her brother, the late Gun-ner Darcy Fernance, who was killed in action in France on September 29th, of last year. In the course of an appropriate address, the Rector (Rev. F S Griffiths) impresses on his hearers that he has not died a failure who has a cross in France. Mr. Griffiths has enlisted, and leaves Australia at an early date after a short ministry here.
