President’s Report

Dear Members,

This year is set to be an exciting year for the Club following the completion of our 2012 building schedule. With all areas of the Club upgraded, here is a review of just how much we have achieved:

• Magpie Sports Bar – Creation of a brand new dedicated sports bar including two 260cm plasma screens, over a dozen smaller screens, a niche TAB sports betting area and the addition of new furniture and finishes throughout.

• Reception – Upgrades to both reception areas with stone finishes to create sleeker and brighter spaces. We also upgraded our sign-in process to include a more efficient scanning system.

• Wenty Lounge, Stage, Café and Bar – An entirely new area was created including a new bar, café and lounge complete with fireplace and chic contemporary furniture. The whole area was opened up to fill the space with natural light. The lounge was also fitted out with a stage and dance floor to host a range of entertainment and promotions.

• Wenty Outdoor Lounge Area - Complete with booth seating, heating panels, LeD screens, automatic drop-down blinds and feature lighting.

• Dragon Noodle Bar – An exciting new addition to our diverse food offering, serving Asian inspired dishes in an Oriental-themed dining setting.

• Lawsons Bistro and Lucido Italian Restaurant – These areas were modernised with the installation of banquet seating, a stylish feature wine display, new furniture, renovated amenities and a complete recarpet of the area.

• Kids Play Area - The indoor kids play area with giant double slide, mini-movie theatre and PlayStation hub was a popular addition for kids and families.

• Car Park – We increased the overall capacity by 220 spaces, now totalling over 770 spaces.

• Slip Lane – Now provides direct access in and out of the Club’s premises from the Great Western highway.

• LED Signage – The installation of two large LED signs on both Smith Street and the Great Western highway will keep you up to date with ‘What’s On’ in the Club.

• Feature Landscaping – This includes native plants and lawns to complement the copper stained sculpture, frames and lighting around the Club.

The Board of Directors, Management and Club staff are all very proud of how the Club is looking post renovations. We look forward to enjoying our brand new Club with you in 2013.

CEO’s Report

Dear Members,

As Ian has pointed out in his report, 2012 saw a big year of renovations for the Club. It was exciting to see the renovations unveiled stage-by-stage and encouraging to watch our Member’s enjoy the new facilities.

The financial performance of the Club in 2012 was very promising considering the significant building works and disruptions to trade. We gained 4,000

new members throughout the year taking us over the 40,000 member milestone and increased total revenue by $2.3 million.

Looking forward, our main construction project for 2013 is the Ringrose Park grandstand. We have obtained a DA from holroyd City Council and construction is due to start as soon as we receive approval from Sydney Water.

Our brand new Club is set to host a variety of events and promotions for Members in 2013. This month we kick off our first major promotion, giving Members the chance to win a brand new Ford Falcon XR6 Limited edition, valued at over $38,000. Be sure to mark Sunday 7 April in your calendar, when we will draw a lucky winner!

Our always popular easter raffles are back this March, with $6,000 worth of easter eggs to win on Sunday 17 March. Plus, stock the fridge with our easter seafood raffle on Thursday 28 March with $3,000 worth of fresh seafood to be won.

The newly renovated and more intimate Lucido Italian Restaurant is set to be a popular choice this Valentine’s Night, with an extensive menu and special Valentine’s dessert on offer. Book now to avoid disappointment.

On the entertainment front we have some big name acts coming up including Damien Leith on February 23 and The McClymonts on March 23. Also throughout February and March we have a pianist playing a set of great tunes every Friday night from 9pm in the Wenty Lounge, setting the perfect atmosphere to relax, unwind and catch up with friends.

Bronze and Silver Members are reminded that their Wenty Rewards points expire on Thursday 28 February. These points can be exchanged for fantastic rewards including a range of gift cards or simply enjoy a meal at the Club and pay with your points!

I look forward to seeing you around the Club.

Dave Brace Chief executive Officer

Mens Bowling Club helps the Kids Research InstituteOn 28 November 2012, the Wenty Leagues Mens Bowling Club presented a cheque for $965.00 to Bowls NSW and the Kids Research Institute (KRI) at Westmead. The money donated was raised from the Mens Bowling Club and proceeds from the ‘Wrong Bias Tin’ (whenever a bowl veered into another lane).

The money raised will help researchers at the Kids Research Institute discover new ways to help improve the health of children.

The 2012 Giving TreeThe overwhelming generosity of Wenty Leagues members and guests has once again made a big difference in the lives of those less fortunate.

Wenty has been a great supporter of The Giving Tree for many years and the 2012 Christmas season saw unmatched selflessness and great care by donors for complete strangers. Gifts were donated for weeks leading up to Christmas and saw people place over 240 presents under The Giving Tree.

The donated gifts were delivered to Community Aid, Parramatta/holroyd Family Support and the Church of Christ Community Care Crisis Centre.

While those who received your gifts were not able to thank you personally, they undoubtedly appreciated the generous display of Christmas spirit.

Wenty Leagues would like to thank all those who helped spread the Christmas cheer and supported this worthy cause.

Let’s play at Westmead’s Hunter Baillie WardThe hunter Baillie Ward at Westmead Children’s hospital is a General Medical and Respiratory Unit. It can care for up to 28 patients at any one time with ages ranging from newborns to 11 years.

The staff care for a wide range of medical conditions, including general medical conditions, respiratory, gastrointestinal, obscure syndromes, endocrine, sleep disorders and dermatology. Many of the patients have co-morbidities and chronic disease and can have short or long term stays at the hospital.

With a $20,000 donation from Wenty Leagues, the ward was able to upgrade its outdoor area for the parents and children to enjoy. The work to upgrade the space included: levelling off the ground, creating easier access for wheelchairs and prams, building and installing play equipment, painting, and maintenance of the garden beds and hedges.

The latest upgrades to the courtyard complement the cubby house that was also funded by Wenty Leagues.

Wenty Leagues hopes the new courtyard is enjoyed for many years to come.

• Expanding food options with the new Wenty Café and the Dragon Noodle Bar,

SWIMMINGFirst of all I hope everyone had a great Christmas and wish everyone a great 2013.On Sun 4 Nov we had two of our swimmers Michelle Mangion and Ted Jolly swim a spot on. (That is exact to the time they nominated).

Our program has been a bit quiet at the moment except for our standard swims on Sunday mornings.

We held a four way swim against Maroubra, Bondi Junction/Waverley and Bondi Diggers on Sun 11 Nov at the Wentworthville Pool. We then had a BBQ in the club house which was enjoyed by all.

Wentworthville picked up three trophies. We finished second in the 10x50 metres relay. Melissa Cohen won the Form stroke and Dennis hill won the 30 metres freestyle with a ‘spot on’ time. Congratulations to all. This makes three awards for the first month of the season.

On Sun 17 Feb we will be holding the Western Metropolitan Carnival at the Wentworthville Pool. Results will be published in the next magazine.

If you want something to do on a Sunday morning, come along to our Swimming Club at 7.45am. You will be made very welcome. There is no pressure and we all have a nice cuppa together when swimming is finished. hope to see you there.

GOSHIN JU-JITSUThe 2012 season went by in a flash. It was a very successful year with our student numbers increasing each term. Also, there were ever increasing numbers to our senior training mat and more encouraging is that more of our junior students were training with the seniors.

We would like to thank our Sensei Rick Cefai and all the other Instructors including Trevor Simpson, Brian Carter, Danny Greenhalgh, Ray Bligh, Stan Stark and Kim Stephenson for giving their time to instruct on the mat. It’s always a difficult balance between family, work and school commitments.

Thanks to our hard working Treasurer – Margaret Borg.

To all the other Committee members thank you for your assistance, it is much appreciated.

On Sun 16 Dec we held a very successful Presentation Day in the Starlight Room. Our two Major awards were presented to Scott Burke for the Junior Black Belt award and Kim Stephenson for the Senior Black Belt award.

There were also some 60 other awards presented to our other students.

Also many thanks to the Wenty Leagues staff, especially function staff and all the other staff (chef/catering and bar staff) who helped to make our presentation a very successful day.

The Ju-Jitsu club would like to thank Wentworthville Leagues Club for their financial support and assistance over the last 45 years.

Our first training night for 2013 will be held on Wed 2 Feb at 7pm.

Congratulations to Wendy Fox, our Vice Captain, who has been awarded the prestigious Col Mower award by NSW Squash, Masters Squash NSW and NSW Pennants for her contributions to the game of squash.

The Squash club’s records were destroyed back in 1990 and there appears some uncertainty as to when the club was first established (either 1964 or 1965). If any retired members of the Squash Club have any information/memorabilia of events prior to 1990, it would be appreciated if it could be forwarded to our Club Secretary.

Keep fit, play squash.

NETBALL2013 is a milestone year for the Netball Club as we celebrate our 50 Year Anniversary. To celebrate in style (as the netballers always do) we will be holding a 50th Anniversary Function on Sat 29 June. Location is yet to be confirmed, but we can confirm it will be a great night. The location will be announced on our website shortly.

At the time of writing this report our second registration night hadn’t taken place, so we can’t say how many teams we will have this year, but if last year is anything to judge by, we are likely to have increased numbers.

This year we did our grading a little differently. We wanted to ensure we have our players graded correctly so we can put the best team on the court for the grade they are allocated. This was to make it fair for everyone, so all teams have a chance at having a successful and enjoyable season. By the time this report is published our teams should be, if not close to, being finalised so teams can bond prior to the start of the season.

We are still running our nursery session for 4-6 year olds on a Monday for half an hour from 5.30pm. If you would like to get your little ones netball skills on track before they actually start playing Saturday games, this is a good starting point.

Keep an eye on our website www.wentyleagues.netball.asn.au/default.asp for upcoming events and details.

GOLFThe highlight of the year for the Golf club in 2012 was when Charlie Bannerman was named Sportsman of the year at the sub club awards night. Charlie became the first individual to win an award from the Golf Club.
