Let's start with a question that 80% of people under 17 (that's you) answer correctly within 5 seconds and half of all adults get wrong even after 2 minutes. What direction is the bus

moving?

Graphing LINEar EquationsThis unit is about lines. Straight lines. Just as "A picture is worth a 1000 words", a line contains lots of information too.. if you know where to look and how to find it

As we progress through the unit, keep these main points in mind always:

1. There is enough information in an equation (y = 2x + 4) to be able to graph a line.2. There is enough information in a line to be able to write an equation. 3. The purpose, the entire purpose, of linear equations is to see how something (let's call it variable "y") changes when something else (let's call it variable "x") changes.

Page 15: February 8 2016

A linear equation is an equation whose solutions fall on a line on the coordinate plane. All solutions of a particular linear equation fall on the line, and all the points on the line are solutions of the equation.

What is a Linear Equation?Vocabulary

Vocabulary ReviewRelation: A set of order pairs.Domain: The x-values in the relation. The set of all first

coordinates of the ordered pairs.Range: The y-values in the relation. The set of all second

coordinates of the ordered pairs.Function: A relation where each x-value is assigned(maps to)

only one y-value.Vertical Line Test: Using a vertical straightedge to see if the

relation is a function. Mapping: A diagram used to see if the relation is a function.
