Holy Family Day School: The Day School is pleased to announce that enrollment for 2015-2016 is underway! If you are interested in having your student attend Holy Family Day School, please visit our website at www.holyfamilydayschool.org for information, program fees and registration forms. Give us a call at 481-1180 to schedule a tour and meet our wonderful teachers! The Day School accepts students ages 2 ½ through Kindergarten and has a structured After School program for Public School students from John B. Dey, Trantwood, and Alanton Elementary schools.

February Happenings: There is no time to hibernate this winter at the Day School! The students have so much to see, learn, and do. In Chapel, they are learning about Respect and during Lent, they will hear about our school friends in Haiti and all the ways we are alike. Our Parish’s very own, Dr. Dan Barton was scheduled to speak to the school about Dental Health as he has in past years, but due to the snow event that closed our schools we had to forego his visit this month. We would, however, like to say how much we appreciate his taking time out of his busy schedule to teach us how we can stay healthy by taking good care of our teeth each year! The students learned about St. Valentine and the Presidents, there is so much to learn and a month with only 28 days (minus snow days too) in which to do it!

Farm Fresh Receipts: Thank you for continuing to save your receipts for the Day school! There are two receptacles for your donations: one box by the door to the Chapel and one by the school office. You may also place your Box Tops for Education in those same containers. Thank you!

LENTEN SOUP SUPPERS: How well do you know Jesus? Join us for the Tuesday evening Lenten Soup Suppers as we join Fr. Robert Barron in an engaging examination of Jesus as “Priest, Prophet, and King.” You don’t want to miss this

exciting new program. Every Tuesday in Lent, at 6:00 p.m. in the Family Room. All are welcome. For more information, contact Tiffany at 481-5702 or [email protected].

ATTENTION, PARENTS OF K-8 CHRISTIAN FORMATION STUDENTS: There are no Christian Formation classes this Sunday, March 1, due to Winter Watch. We will resume classes on Sunday, March 8.

CATECHIST NEEDED!We are once again in need of a co-catechist for Mr. Dave and Mr. Andy’s 5th grade class for the remainder of the year. Please contact Tiffany ([email protected]) if you are interested in filling this much needed and rewarding position. Background check and VIRTUS training are required.

GOLDEN SENIORS NEXT MEETINGThursday, March 19, 10:00 a.m.

in the Family Room(Everyone is invited to attend.)

GUEST SPEAKER

EDWARD R. STOLLE

Ed is a member of the Kaufman & Canoles law firm’s Virginia Beach Office. His areas of practice include Estate Planning, Estate Administration, and Probate. Elder Law, Estate Planning and protection of our assets is becoming increasingly important and more complicated as we seniors live longer and have more assets to leave our heirs. For instance, nursing home care, which has become more of a reality, can leave a spouse financially ruined. Selling the home you have willed to your heirs can, and usually does, take 6 months in Virginia because of probate laws. There are solutions to problems like this, and Ed may have just the information we need to avoid some of these pitfalls that are ready and waiting for us out there.

NEXT SENIOR TOUR

Even though we are travel bent,we’ll stay near home because of Lent;but looking ahead, an Island, we see.

Tangier, you say? ~ That just might be!

WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOUON MARCH 19!!

NEW EVANGELIZATION NOTES

Evangelization StoriesEvangelization is not proselytizing. It is about sharing our

faith and showing the joy of Jesus Christ. Sometimes we don’t think the other person may be listening or watching, but they are.

According to Pope Francis, “While faith is a gift, Christians must show others its meaning by being living examples of love, agreement, joy, and trust in the midst of suffering “because this will raise questions,” such as “Why do they live like that? What motivates them?”

Do you have an evangelization story, please share it with us at [email protected] and let us know if we can share it in this space.

Save the Date!Vacation Bible SchoolJoin us for an exciting week

PRAYERS FOR OUR COUNTRY AND THE MILITARY: Every Friday, we say the Patriotic Rosary after the 9:00 Morning Mass. If you have a family member in the military and would like us to pray for them by name, please e-mail Mary Sorrentino at [email protected] with their name, branch of service and, if you like, a photo.

40 DAYS FOR LIFE BEGINS ASH WEDNESDAY:40 Days for Life is a community-based campaign that takes a

determined, peaceful approach to showing local communities the consequences of abortion in their own neighborhoods, for their own friends and families. It puts into action a desire to cooperate with God in the carrying out of His plan for the end of abortion. It draws attention to the evil of abortion through the use of a three-point program: Prayer and Fasting, Constant Vigil, Community Outreach.

Local churches will be praying from 6:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. outside Planned Parenthood, 515 Newtown Road, Virginia Beach. If you are unable to join us, please pray and fast at home to end abortion. For more information, contact Mary Sorrentino at [email protected] or 757-481-0766.

“THE JOY OF THE GOSPEL” PRESENTED BY FR. MICHAEL RENNINGER: Five presentations based on each Chapter of The Joy of the Gospel: Session One: The Church’s Missionary Transformation; Session Two: Amid the Crisis of Communal Commitment; Session Three: The

Proclamation of the Gospel; Session Four: The Social Dimension of Evangelization

Join us during the Sundays of Lent for five engaging presentations on Pope Francis’ “Joy of the Gospel.” All are welcome! Sundays at 9:30 a.m. in Family Room A.

“Before all else, the Gospel invites us to respond to the God of love who saves us, to see God in others and to go forth from ourselves to seek the good of others.” ~Pope Francis “The Joy of the Gospel”

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS NEWSKnight of the Month:Jeff Mingin is the Knight of the Month for January for representing both our council and our parish at the March for Life on January 22. Most of you know Jeff as our Youth Minister at Church of the Holy Family. However, Jeff is also a member of the Knights of Columbus. By working so closely with both the Youth Group and the Knights, we have both benefited by having him as a member.

Family of the Month:The Kubiki family is the poster family for the Knights of Columbus, for Council 10804 and for the Church of the Holy Family. Aside from them doing just about everything for our Council, Parish, and community, they somehow/someway find time to do more. A prime example of this was that our council decided to serve breakfast after the 11:00 Mass a few weeks back. So up stepped the Kubicki’s to work both breakfasts; Geri served at one breakfast while her husband served at the other. Our breakfasts raise money for our council so we can give it to various charities.

PARISH OFFICE HOURSMonday-Thursday from 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Friday from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

NATIONAL VOCATIONS AWARENESS: “If God is with us, who can be against us?” Is the Lord strengthening you to consider the grace of a vocation to the priesthood or consecrated life? Call Father Michael Boehling at 804-359-5661 or e-mail at [email protected].

FOOD PANTRY UPDATEOur Pantry was open yesterday and we need to restock our shelves. Thanks to contributions from so many parishioners we are able to help between 120 and 170 people each month. Please place your weekly contribution in the grocery carts found in the Commons. This week we are asking for contributions of BREAKFAST Foods: Pancake Syrup, Pancake Mix, Oatmeal, Cereal, and Canned Fruit.

From the 2015 Lenten Message of Pope Francis: God’s people, then, need this interior renewal, lest we become indifferent and withdraw into ourselves. To further this renewal, I would like to propose for our reflection three biblical texts.

“1. “If one member suffers, all suffer together” (1 Cor 12:26) – The ChurchThe love of God breaks through that fatal withdrawal into ourselves which is indifference. The Church offers us this love of God by her teaching and especially by her witness. But we can only bear witness to what we ourselves have experienced. Christians are those who let God clothe them with goodness and mercy, with Christ, so as to become, like Christ, servants of God and others. This is clearly seen in the liturgy of Holy Thursday, with its rite of the washing of feet. Peter did not want Jesus to wash his feet, but he came to realize that Jesus does not wish to be just an example of how we should wash one another’s feet. Only those who have first allowed Jesus to wash their own feet can then offer this service to others. Only they have “a part” with him (Jn 13:8) and thus can serve others….The Church is the communio sanctorum not only because of her saints, but also because she is a communion in holy things: the love of God revealed to us in Christ and all his gifts. Among these gifts there is also the response of those who let themselves be touched by this love. In this communion of saints, in this sharing in holy things, no one possesses anything alone, but shares everything with others. And since we are united in God, we can do something for those who are far distant, those whom we could never reach on our own, because with them and for them, we ask God that all of us may be open to his plan of salvation.”

“CARE FOR OUR EARTH”We have entered the Season of Lent, a time period intended for us to apply extra efforts to grow spiritually in the love of our Lord. As is the custom/tradition, we are encouraged to engage in additional practices which will enable us to deepen our relationship with the Lord. Hopefully, that among these practices we will include our Earth and its creatures who in different ways reflect and represent the Creator. If needed, here are a few suggestions: to have 2-3 meatless meals a week; to arrange to have an energy audit of your house (that is, if you have $300.00 to $600.00 available); once or twice weekly take a walk in your neighborhood, the beach, or a park (as long as the weather is suitable) paying special attention to nature; to participate in one or two conferences/presentations on the environment; to join and participate in the Sierra Club or Lynnhaven River Now or the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. Be mindful that the action(s) you choose is/are not the important factor; it is the intention and spirit with which you engage in them!
