www.hlwg.org Fostering New and Lasting Friendships February 2020 Greetings! Wow, I feel like I just wrote the January NEWS message and here I am writing February’s!!! I don’t know about you but I feel like this month has flown by. It’s certainly been an active one, both personally and for HLWG. Our online membership renewal process has been well-received by the majority of our members. It seems y’all love doing things in your pj’s! For those who did not quite complete the process, our Membership Director, Kathi Viehman, has been there to help. There is always a learning curve when trying something new but I think we are pretty quick learners. You will find a renewal link within this newsletter so be sure to use it before February 7th. Our Winter in the South Luncheon was a fun, enjoyable time! Vera told me how incredibly impressed she was with, not only our HLWG which she called the “gold standard of events” in which she participates (I desperately tried not to jump up and down like a little kid!!) but Hampton Lake itself. She was amazed at finding a beautiful area within Bluffton which she knew nothing about previously. In order to keep the cost of the luncheon reasonable for our attendees while offering an upgraded menu and noted speaker, HLWG subsidized the event within our annual budget. As I often say, it takes a village and this event was no exception. A huge thank you to all of those who helped pull this event together from the Hampton Lake staff, Rachel and Robin, to our own HLWG welcome committee, Executive Board, and table decoration guru Sally Roach. Often times I’m asked by members, both new and long-standing, what the activities of an Interest Group (IG) might be or how to learn a certain game/activity offered by an IG. We will be answering those questions when we offer our “Sundaes on the Lake” Sunday, March 15th from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. Needless to say there will be ice cream involved. Truth be told, most times when I’m involved there’s ice cream involved! It will be a good time for you to find out about all the Interest Groups and have the opportunity to talk to the women involved in the group. More details will be in the March NEWS but put it on your calendars now. We are delighted that so many women want to join HLWG and have found new friends and playmates. I treasure the time I get to participate in one of my interest group activities. If there is something you are interested in and we don’t have an Interest Group for it, you can request it by putting a notice in this NEWS over a 3- month period. Once you have 10 interested women with a member identified as the chairperson you can be added to our interest group listing and begin enjoying

HLWG Charitable Giving Committee UpdateThe HLWG members again were EXTREMELY generous with the donationsbrought to the Very Vera luncheon. We collected 454 health and beauty aid itemsfor the clients at Bluffton Self Help. Additionally, for the first time we had a creditcard processor from Bluffton Self Help which allowed members to make a $10credit card contribution directly/immediately to BSH. We are still waiting to hearfrom BSH about the final dollar donations. The staff at BSH were so appreciativeof your donations. We will not be collecting any donations for our March meeting. At our March meeting we will be announcing information about the April meetingdonation collection and what the raffle prize will be. Please be sure to attend theMarch meeting to get all the details as this will be a very important donationcollection. – Janet Viskovich, Chair of Charitable Giving Committee

A Message from Donna Gallenstein, Social Activities Director“Give With Your Heart” was the message Vera Stewart shared with us at ourrecent Winter Luncheon. The message gave us an opportunity to reflect on thementors that guided us on our journey, while inspiring us to mentor and championothers with love and encouragement. It was also wonderful to see the spirit of“giving with your heart” by the many Hampton Lake ladies who contributedsupplies to those in need!

Please plan to “Save the Date: Sunday, March 15” for ice cream and a specialshowcase of our Interest Groups for HLWG members. Jennifer Parker, Director ofInterest Groups and our Interest Group Chairs will be sharing how Hampton LakeWomen have fun! Look for more details in March NEWS.
