Vol. 24 No. 1
February 2018
President’s Report During the January 2018, Board of Directors meeting, the Board voted to nominate Elizabeth Kirk, owner of unit #611 to fill the Director vacancy created by Jim Wellman’s retirement. Elizabeth had expressed interest in serving on the Board in previous years and will fill Jim Wellman’s unexpired term. Welcome, Elizabeth. We are glad to have you.
The Board also approved the 2018/2019 rental rates through April of 2019. The new rate schedule is posted on the website under accommodations.
Also, the estoppel fee for unit sales was increased from $150 to $250 (seller) and a new transfer fee of $100 (buyer) was instituted on unit sales effective immediately.
The issue of smoking was discussed again. At the November 2017 meeting, a $500 fine was approved for smok-ing inside units at Sanibel Moorings. This was instituted exactly one year after the property officially became non-smoking. The Board voted in January to institute a $100 fine per occurrence for smoking anywhere on the property, with one warning prior to the fine.
Unit Surveys: Only a portion of the units were surveyed in 2017. Units that had been renovated, were in danger of falling into a lower category, had excessive complaints on guest surveys or units that had been scored “Below Standard” the previous year were re-surveyed. If your unit was surveyed, you should have received your survey by the beginning of January. Please feel free to contact Kari directly if you have any questions or feedback. We look forward to answering questions or helping in any way we can.
A new year brings change.
This January, Jim Wellman, whom has served on the SMCA Board of Directors as a consultant, Director, and past Treasurer of the Board, retired after 34 years of service. Jim and Georgia have sold their town-home and will be moving in the coming months. They will be missed, but will always remain a part of the Sanibel Moorings family. Thank you, Jim and Georgia, for your commitment, sacrifices and service to Sanibel Moorings over the years! Jim and Georgia Wellman

We are off and running into 2018! Where did January go?
Loss Assessment:
Thank you to each of you for quickly remitting the
Loss Assessment payments. We realize the process was more
time consuming for some than others. We have collected nearly all assessments, and many of them were paid
in advance of the billing on December 31st.
We would also like to thank Brenda Adams with Brown and
Brown Insurance. Brenda is the personal agent for many of
the unit owners at Sanibel Moorings and was instrumental with helping our owners receive prompt payment of
their assessments. Since Brown and Brown also handles the commercial insurance for Sanibel Moorings, they appreciate
our business very much and therefore make our owners a pri-
ority. If you have questions for Brenda about your unit cover-age, she can be reached at (239) 274-1450.
Post hurricane Update:
We continue to repair and replace items from Hurricane Irma
and anticipate the process to continue well into 2018. Later
this month, the pool fences are set to be replaced. There should be minimal inconvenience to guests and owners. There
are still some remaining tree stumps to be removed. All garden
signs will need to be replaced later this spring (many were lost and damaged during the storm.) Other items include: siding
repairs and replacement, painting of curbs, garden
replacement of trees and shrubs.
At the November Board meeting, a streetscape landscaping
plan and budget was approved. The streetscape is the area on both sides of East Gulf Drive, from the beginning to end. This
is a very important part of the property, serving as the curb
appeal for the resort and a buffer between the buildings and the road. RS Walsh was chosen as the contractor because of
their knowledge and longevity on the Island. New lighting and
irrigation will be installed at the streetscape area in con-junction with the new plantings. The streetscape project will
be completed in March and we are excited to see the final pro-
ject and share pictures with each of you.
From the General Manager... Kari A. Cordisco
