Your shoebox has begun its journey and will be deliv-ered to a child in Mexico. The gift-filled box you packed will share the love of God in a tangible way and can im-pact not only the boy or girl who receives it, but also their family and community. You can learn more about how Operation Christmas Child is working in Mexico, and then share it with your friends via social media. Most important, please remem-ber to pray for the child who will receive your gift. Thank you, and may God bless you!

Women’s Department Dear Sisters,

Although we were few in number, those gathered for the January WD meeting enjoyed sharing our salads and our fellowship together. During the brief business meeting several notes of ‘thanks’ from the recipients of the ’Holiday Gift Boxes’ were read. I added that also others had expressed ‘thank you’ for the goodies with the gift they re-ceived. They were all grateful for being remembered by their sisters-in-Christ.

Our next WD meeting will be Febru-ary 8th at Sister Pam Burford’s home. The guest program leader will be Elder David Newman; please keep him in your prayers as he prepares Lesson 2 on “Women Promote the Kingdom of God.”

May we prepare ourselves to be “Women of Salt & Light,” living as a rele-vant witness of the gospel of Jesus Christ so that others may see our good works and glorify our Father who is in heaven. As we do this, let us ponder upon Jabez’s prayer in 1 Chronicles 4:10:

“And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he re-quested.”

Your servant & sister-in-Christ,

Debbie Newman

Zion’s Busy Bees: The quilting group continues to meet at the church at 7pm. The following are the their next 3 meeting dates: February 16, March 29 & April 26. If you have any questions contact Sandy Whiting or Martha Van Nordstrand.

grass; the herb yielding seed; the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind; and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed should be in itself, upon the earth; and it was so, even as I spake. [16] And the earth brought forth grass; every herb yielding seed after his kind; and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed should be in itself, after his kind.

Matthew 6:33-34: And yet I say unto you, that even Solomon, in all his glory, was not arrayed like one of these. [34] Therefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and to-morrow is cast into the oven, how much more will he not provide for you, if ye are not of little faith.

Mankind is the only living thing to which God gave the gift of agency with the ability to choose against his own nature. With agency came the responsibility to choose wisely or be forever separated from God. Our faith directly affects our choices in life. In 1 Corr. 12 we find that faith is a gift of the spirit and in Galatians 5:22 faith is listed as a fruit of the spirit. When a gift is given one has the responsibility to use, exercise and grow the gift or loose it. The growth of the gift produces the fruit.

The gift of faith is complete, like the mustard seed, and capable of becoming a force of beauty. The mus-tard seed must be placed in good ground and before it can grow from the tiniest seed to the largest of herbs. In order for Faith to grow we must provide a good en-vironment by casting out fear and doubt. Has your faith deteriorated since you first believed or has it grown? The Apostles were chastised by Christ on several occasions for being of “little faith”. Matthew 8:24-26: And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves; but he was asleep. [25]And his disci-ples came unto him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us, else we perish. [26] And he said unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? [27] Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm [25] And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and, beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. [26] And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

Matthew 17:19-21: Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? [20] And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief; for, verily, I say unto you, If ye have faith as grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Re-

move to yonder place, and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. [21] Howbeit, this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

Prayer and fasting are nutrients needed to grow our faith. Luke 17:5-6: And the apostles said unto him, Lord, in-crease our faith. [6] And the Lord said, If you had faith as a grain of mustard seed, you might say unto this syc-amore tree, Be thou plucked up by the roots, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.

When the Lord speaks of our faith as a grain of mustard seed I believe he is speaking of both the quality of our faith and the quantity of our faith.

Why do we seek to have faith? To move mountains or to pluck up trees and cast them into the sea or to please God? James 4:3: Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

The righteous (just) are to live by faith. Romans 1:17: For therein is the righteousness of God revealed through faith on his name; as it is written, The just shall live by faith. Faith being the foundation of all righteousness.

Hebrews 10:38-39: Now the just shall live by faith; but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. [39] But we are not of them who draw back un-to perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

Matthew 13:30-32: And another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field; [31] Which indeed is the least of all seeds, but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof. [32] Another parable spake he unto them, The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.

Mark 4:24-25: And he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God? Or with what comparison shall we compare it? [25] It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth; but, when it is sown, it gro-weth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it.
