Community UpdateFEBRUARY 2015
Old Wallgrove Road UpgradeThe NSW Government has funded this $95 million project to upgrade Old Wallgrove Road between Roberts Road and the M7 Motorway at Eastern Creek.
Roads and Maritime Services started construction in November 2014. Work is expected to finish in 2017, weather permitting, with sections progressively opened as quickly as possible.
Existing traffic congestion at the Old Wallgrove Road/Wallgrove Road intersection will continue during peak traffic times until the upgrade is completed. During construction there may be delays in travel time due to potential changes in traffic conditions, including reduced speed limits.
BackgroundThe Western Sydney Employment Area, between the intersection of the M4 and M7 Motorways, is expected to provide more than 2200 hectares of accessible and diverse employment land supporting 40,000 jobs.
The area provides well located, accessible and diverse employment lands to support manufacturing, transport and logistics activities.
Included in the area is existing land at Greystanes, Huntingwood, Eastern Creek and Erskine Park, as well as land released at Ropes Creek and Horsley Park.
As residential and commercial development occurs, the amount of traffic in the area is expected to increase on Old Wallgrove Road.
Key benefits This upgrade will provide:
• A high standard dual carriageway extension to the M7 Motorway which will create a vital east-west link between existing and proposed employment areas in Western Sydney
• Improved safety, access and travel times for all road users, including heavy vehicles travelling to and from the M7 and M4 motorways, through reduced traffic congestion and a central median separating opposing traffic flows
• Improved safety for pedestrians and cyclists through an off-road shared path
• Reduced congestion at the Old Wallgrove Road/Wallgrove Road intersection, improving safety for motorists
The map adjacent shows the Old Wallgrove Road project area.
Key features• Widening Old Wallgrove Road to two lanes
in each direction between Roberts Road and Southridge Street
• Widening Old Wallgrove Road to three lanes in each direction between Southridge Street and the Wallgrove Road/M7 interchanges
• Building a 400 metre mini link road, with two lanes in each direction from Quarry Road. This will connect Wallgrove Road to the northbound on and off ramps to the M7
• Providing bus stops just past each intersection on Old Wallgrove Road and installing traffic lights that give priority to buses
• Providing a shared path for pedestrians and cyclists from the Erskine Park Link Road to the shared pathway on the M7
• Upgrading intersections to eliminate the existing peak time traffic congestion.
The design for Old Wallgrove Road also allows for an upgrade to six lanes, should it be needed in the future.

• Traffic will be switched onto the new eastbound carriageway, when completed, in order for the westbound carriageway to be built
• Construction work along Wallgrove Road and the new link road will be carried out at the same time
• Businesses around the project will be notified in advance of all traffic switches and night work and there will be information on electronic signs.
Hours of workWork will usually be carried out Mondays to Fridays from 8am to 6pm and on Saturdays from 8am to 1pm.
Potentially affected residents and businesses will be advised if any work needs to take place outside these hours.

Community involvementRoads and Maritime and our delivery partner Daracon Contractors are committed to keeping you informed of the project’s progress.
An environmental assessment, known as a review of environmental factors (REF) for the proposed upgrade of Old Wallgrove Road between Roberts Road and the M7 Interchanges at Eastern Creek went on display in late 2012 and comments were invited. A report detailing the submissions received was subsequently published and the project was approved in 2013.
The REF and submissions report remain available on the project website (rms.nsw.gov.au/roadprojects). Thank you to everyone who made a submission.
