Dear Campus Residents,
Are you excited for Spring Break? The time between the start of
January classes and Spring Break’s arrival is a long stretch, so I am
excited that will have the opportunity to regroup and recharge very
soon.
As promised, this monthly email update hopes to keep you well
connected to what’s happening in Housing & Dining Programs.

Class of 2016:
Chart Your Academic Future with AU Faculty
On Tuesday, February 11, second-year students will join AU
faculty and academic leaders for an evening of conversation, food,
and relationship-building. Professors from every department will be
on hand to discuss numerous academic opportunities to strengthen
your AU degree. The event will be in MGC 2-5 from 6-7:30 p.m.

Room Selection Process Information
AU Campus Store: Here to Save You
Time and Hassle
Are you tired of waiting in long lines at Metro Stations
to load money onto your SmarTrip card? You can avoid
the trouble by purchasing a SmarTrip card at the AU
Campus Store! Customers will be able to purchase a
card for $10.00 which will include a $5.00 value on the
card upon purchase. If you already have a SmarTrip
card, stop by the Campus Store to add more value or
load a 7 day bus pass onto your card.
RecycleMania 2014: Bin It to Win It
Help American University reclaim our 2012
RecycleMania National Grand Championship title
by recycling and composting on campus!
From February 2-March 29, AU will be hosting
many events such as a Junk-To-Funk Competition
(art competition made from recycled materials),
Personal Electronic Waste Recycling Drive,
Community Clean Up, and a Photography
Compost-ition.
For information on these events as well as tips on
how to sort your waste properly to help us win the
competition, click here. Also, share with us as you
recycle and compost throughout the competition by
tagging us #RecycleManiaAU and following
@ZeroWasteAU.

Summer 2014 Campus Hosts
Interested in living for FREE in DC this summer?
Housing and Dining Programs is looking for 40
awesome students to work with us this summer as
Campus Hosts!
What’s a Campus Host? You will live on campus from
May 8th to August 12 to work with University
Conference & Guest Services to assist our summer
conference guests.
Before you apply, interested students should attend one
of our mandatory information sessions and get some
more info on the position:
Thursday 2/20 at 7pm, Letts Formal Lounge
Friday 2/21 at 3:30pm, Anderson Conference Room
Tuesday 2/25 at 1pm & 6pm, Letts Formal Lounge
Thursday 2/27 at 6pm, Letts Formal lounge
Now Hiring: Summer 2014 RMCs The Residence Maintenance Crew (RMC) is a team of
student staff who respond to 2Fix facilities requests
concerning residence hall furniture, set-ups for events
held in meeting spaces within the residence halls, and
generally works to improve the residential experience at
American University. Summer RMC applications will
be accepted from February 17 - March 21. For more
information on the position, students can visit our

Update: Residence Hall Association
After a relaxing Winter Break, RHA is ready to
get down to business for the Spring 2014
semester! Here is an event to keep in mind for
February:
February 22: RHA along with AU Student
Government is hosting the Founder's Day Ball!

Having Major Doubts?
Join Residential Education and the College of Arts & Sciences for the 4th
annual “The Major Games: Catching Your Academic Major” event on
Wedneday, February 26, 2014 from 11am-2pm in Mary Graydon Room
4. Members from the various Schools and Colleges will be present to
speak about major options and help you make the decision on what to do
with your academic future and career. Students navigating their academic
future are encouraged to attend this free event.
Apply to be a CAS Peer Advisor!
Interested in learning more about the Peer Advising Program and what it
means to be a peer advisor? Join us for an information session. Current
Peer Advisors will be available to answer questions and talk about their
experiences. Applications are available now in Battelle 100 or online.
Deadline to apply is March 6. Information sessions will take place on the
following days:
Monday, 2/10 from 12-1pm
Wednesday, 2/19 from 5:30-6:30pm
Friday, 2/28 from 12-1pm
Location: Battelle 130 (History/Philosophy Lounge)

Check out the Commuter Corner
Commuter students can enjoy a special place reserved for them in Bender
Library. Located in the sublevel of the library next to the Mud Box is the
Commuter Corner, which provides lockers, charging stations for phones
and computers, and comfortable seating. The Commuter Lounge and its
lockers are open to students Monday through Friday (6am to 11pm),
Saturdays (8am to 8pm), and Sundays (8am to 8:30pm).
Need Spring Break Plans?
The AU United Methodist
Chaplaincy leads an annual service-
based spring break trip to Cherokee,
NC, focusing on exploring Native
American culture. It is a combination
of service, community, meeting
amazing people and immersing
oneself in Native American culture
for the week. We will have an
informational session on Sunday,
February 9, at 9 p.m. in the
basement of Kay. You do not need to
be a Methodist or even a Christian to

Mediation Training
AU Conflict Resolution Services is
accepting applications for their
semesterly 20-hour mediation
training, February 27- March 2.
The Basic Mediation Training course
is FREE to AU students interested in
learning skills and/or volunteering
with Conflict Resolution Services.
The training will provide prospective
mediators experience in mediation
through instruction in the theory of
conflict resolution and the policies
and practices of our office. After
attending training, participants are
qualified to volunteer with AU
Conflict Resolution Services.
