Newsletter of KartSport Taranaki
Howdy everyone. Donna is busy running around after the kids, so I’ll have another crack this month at the newsletter for her. Winter is really here, the days are getting shorter and the fun of moving stock early in the morning is waning. There’s plenty of racing that has or is about to happen. The staggering number of race reports from our members has meant that this month I have been unable to choose the best report so will wing it (that’s sarcasm for those who may have missed it!)… The Championship round of the 2014/15 Bayleys WPKA Goldstar Series was run at Wellington on 31 May, with eight of our drivers heading down to the capital for a thrash. Logan Smith was the best of our guys, with a 1st equal finish and two fastest lap times recorded for the Cadet class over the weekend. He backed this up with a 4th in the GP. The Junior Yamaha drivers put in a great effort as well, with Robbie Johnson ending up 5th, Jayden Smith 6th and Nathan Cox 7th. Robbie went on to 3rd in class in the GP, followed by Jayden who was 4th in the GP in his class. In the Senior ranks, Brad Still had a mixed weekend, with a 4, 2, 1, 13, 5 scorecard and a 3rd in class in the GP…leaving him 5th overall for the day. Aaron de Ridder competed in the RML class as well, but could only manage 11th overall and Jonathan Dwyer ended up 12th in class and 5th in the Rotax Max Light GP. David Cox was 4th in Open and 3rd in class in the GP.
The event final heat and GP results looked like this for our members:
Cadet ROK - Day results 1st= Logan Smith (2,2,2,4,3 finishes)
Cadet ROK - GP results 4th Logan Smith (fastest lap of race)
Junior 100cc Yamaha - Day results 5th Robbie Johnson (4,5,5,5,4 finishes) 6th Jayden Smith (6,7,6,6,5 finishes) 7th Nathan Cox (7,6,7,7,6 finishes)
Junior 100cc Yamaha - GP results 3rd Robbie Johnson 4th Jayden Smith
Rotax Max Light - Day results 5th Brad Still (4,2,1,13,5 finishes) 11th Aaron de Ridder (7,11,10,9,11 finishes) 12th Jonathan Dwyer (12,6,11,11,12 finishes)
Open - Day results 4th David Cox (3,4,4,3,3 finishes)
Senior GP results Brad Still 3rd in RML class ,4th overall Jonathan Dwyer 5th in RML class, 6th overall David Cox 3rd in Open class, 8th overall
Thomas entered the Winter Cup at Agrisea Raceway in Hamilton on the same weekend as Goldstar. He had some good results and undertook some valuable testing for the 2016 Nationals. The kart suffered engine wiring failure on the Saturday morning, so we had to run an engine that was well overdue for some attention and lacked power. Despite this, he recorded 5, 9, 3, 3 finishes on Saturday, which was long track, reverse direction. Then on Sunday he recorded 3, 2, 4, 4 finishes and set the fastest lap time in H2. This gave Thomas 4th overall after a long weekend in Hamilton. Matthew Podjursky attended the first round of the Formula First Winter Series at Manfield on 7 June and had a good weekend of testing and learning. Matt qualified 5th and then went on to record 6, 7 and 6th place finishes after being hampered by a misfire early. The Superkart brigade also went to Manfield the same weekend and our club was represented by David Cox (National 125), Logan Boyde (RML), Garth Lacey (RMH) and Nick Issac (D2). Results as follows: David Cox (Q5 then 4, 5, 3, 3 finishes) Logan Boyde (Q1 then 2, 3, 2, 2 finishes) Garth Lacey (Q5 then DNF, 5, 5, 4 finishes) Nick Issac (Q1 then DNF, DNF) That’s about all from me, Donna will be back next month…. Cheers, Robert

Did you hear…?
The discussion around trying to arrange a visit from a number of drivers from Mt. Wellington to our track is gaining momentum. Anyone who may be willing to host (billet) a family for a weekend, please let Robert know so we can see how many people we can get to our track to run with us.
Aaron de Ridder and Gracie Lorimer got engaged recently. Congratulations guys, we look forward to hearing the wedding plans and we assume they will not clash with a motorsport event!?
We are still looking for helmets, gloves, race suits etc that can be donated to the club for use with the “Have-A-Go” kart programme. If you have any of this gear, please bring it to club day so we can put it to use.
The experts are expecting snow for the NZ Schools meeting in Dunedin next month….sounds awesome!
The club has been awarded hosting rights for the 2016 NZ Schools Championships in July. We are very keen to make this an event in Taranaki “Like No Other”. If you have some spare time and want to be involved with organising and running this great event for the younger drivers, please make yourself known.

Presidents Report – Robert Boniface
Hi everyone, Firstly, I have been kept busy lately with a number of people who have utilised the “Have-A-Go” karts, which is fantastic. The revenue collected from the “Have-A-Go” programme has almost paid off the purchase of one of the karts and we have a load of interest from potential new members. After being out at the track with the newbies, it has become timely to remind everyone of their obligations with regard to using the track. Please be aware of the following: 1) A club member is not permitted under any circumstances to let someone “have a go” in their kart without that person holding a “Practice License” from KSNZ. 2) Said club member will be removed from the track and their key will be withdrawn…this is not negotiable. 3) The only way someone is able to drive a kart on a track is via the “Have-A-Go” programme, or being a financial and licensed member (KSNZ racing, Vintage or Practice license holder). Please ensure you understand this, as these are the rules. The Enduros are to be held on Sunday 28 June, and we are hopeful of a large turnout of drivers for this. Thanks to all the Vintage boys who ran at our May meeting, it was great to see you all there, so thanks for travelling from afar to make it happen! Special thanks to Gough TWL who kindly supplied a number of giveaways for the Gough TWL Summer Series and hopefully our members can support Gough TWL wherever possible. Enjoy your racing, I unfortunately won’t be at the track on Sunday 28 June… Cheers, Robert
The club AGM is coming up in August…if you have the desire to become a committee member, then this is your time to stand up. We need our members to all turn up to ensure anything that needs changing can get actioned.

Reminder…
Just a small thing to bear in mind, if you are not a KartSport NZ Racing License holder, but have a key to the track….even if you are a member of the club you are required to hold either a “practice license” or a “vintage license” from KSNZ in order to take to the track. To simply turn up without this licence pleading ignorance is not acceptable. If you are at the track, please do not be offended if you are asked to produce your practice license as this is a requirement of KSNZ.
More comic relief…
