KARTSPORT TARANAKI NEWSLETTER | Issue 28 PAGE 1 Newsletter of KartSport Taranaki Happy New Year to you all. I hope the festive season didn’t take too much of a toll on you all. I am sure there are some of us who still have the same New Year’s resolutions as last year because there was not a lot of progress made on last year’s resolutions. And… Christmas certainly came and went. I am sure that this year will go as quickly as last year especially looking at the karting calendar. We are lucky to have the next Goldstar meeting here in the Naki, and then the Nationals being held at our neighbours in Palmerston North. National School’s this year is in Dunedin followed by North Islands in Te Puke and of course CIK during November in Hamilton. Since November 2014, there hasn’t been a lot of karting, however, a few of our club members travelled to Palmerston North for the second round of the Goldstar series on the 7th December 2014. The weather seemed to plague us all not knowing from one race to the next what the skies were going deliver us. In the Cadet class Logan Smith finished the day in 3rd place, Corbin Smith 11th and Euan Dwyer in 13th. Aaron de Ridder came home in 2nd place in the Rotax Heavy class. Thomas Boniface placed 7th in the Mini ROK class. In the Junior Yamaha class, Brendon Jury placed 1st, Ryan Jury 2nd, Robbie Johnson 5th, Nathan Cox 7th and Jayden Smith 8th. Garth Lacey was 10th in the Clubsport class while in the Rotax Max Light class, Brad Still finished 2nd and Jonathan Dwyer 14th. Let’s see if we can get as many of you to join in the Goldstar meeting that we will be hosting here, 7-8 March 2015. Good on you Brendan, our best placed Naki driver coming home with the big trophy! As you know we did not hold a club day in December, and we are having our fun day on Saturday 31st January 2015. This will be a joint event as we will be holding our 2014 prize giving. It would be great to see as many of you as possible there to support the fun day and the prize giving. The committee are putting on a BBQ tea for everyone too. It’s not often that we have an opportunity to socialise together. Let’s make the most of what summer has to offer and support the committee. January proved a successful day for our Taranaki peddlers in the first round of the Superkart Series, this event kicked off in Taupo on 11 January. Three of our members managed a podium finish. Logan Boyde racing in Rotax Max Light placed 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 2nd and 3rd overall. Good job Logan, only 21 points off Ryan Urban, who sits in first place. David Cox, a newbie to Superkarts, also sits in 3rd place after finishing with 2nd, 4th, 2nd, 2nd and 4th. David sits only 27 points off Jonathon Buxeda. Greg Robinson also finished 3rd for the day in the Rotax Max Heavy Class, after finishing 6th, 5th, 5th, 2nd and recorded a DNF in the last race, sitting 35 points off Teddy Bassick. Also in this class Garth Lacey had a mixed event finishing 5th, 7th, 7th followed by a DNF and then could not get the kart out for the last race. All considered, Garth managed 7th overall and is 61 points behind Teddy Bassick. Nick Isaac started off the event well with two 2nd placings however, things took a backward slide when he had two DNF’s followed by DNS, finishing the day 7th overall and 70 points off Tony Gestro. Considering it is still early days in the series it will be more about ‘watch this space’ to follow the exciting results of these karters. We travelled up to Auckland over the weekend to compete in the Auckland City of Sails Event. After a bit of soldering and re-clamping of some wires on the very substandard Vortex wiring loom, we finally got the kart hooked up for the final race on day two to come away with a new track record. Not bad considering Thomas spent 5 out of the 8 races mowing the lawns for which we are yet to invoice the Auckland Kart Club for. They certainly drive a bit rougher up there than we’d like! Here’s wishing you all the very best for a prosperous and happy 2015! February 2014 Kartorque In this issue: President’s report Birthday list Coming events Crossword Answers And some more…..read on! Did you hear…?

A number of karters were seen in the New Plymouth Christmas Parade which, proved to be a great hit.

Our condolences go to Robert on the loss of his mum on December 28. The Boniface family would like to thank the Kart Club for their thoughts and kind wishes. Thank you to John and Isiah Kenny and Murray, Liz and Matt Podjursky for attending the funeral.

For those who actually read this spot you will have noticed that a little bird thought it was Andrew Adlam who achieved numerous awards at NPBHS prizegiving… rest assured it wasn’t actually Andrew but William Adlam who did his family proud.

Presidents Report – Robert Boniface

Gidday everyone,

Xmas is over, time to head back to work and earn some more “karting dollars” to allow us to continue on with our obsession. Summer has really arrived and it is looking good for some quality time at the Todd Energy Raceway to test some new stuff, ensure old stuff keeps going and to break some stuff you hadn’t expected to break! The next big meeting at the Todd Energy Raceway is the Bayleys WPKA Goldstar Series which rolls into town on 7/8 March. If you are able to help out with any spare time or energy if you are not competing, please let Mike Jury, Maurice Frost, Steve Boyde or me know ASAP, we can always do with some more spare arms and legs. KartSport Taranaki always puts on a good event so let’s get behind the Goldstar Series again. Well done to those racing in the Superkart Series, things have started well for the Taranaki contingent of Nick Isaac, David Cox, Logan Boyde, Garth Lacey and Greg Robinson…keep it up guys! The Rotax Max Challenge is kicking off in Rotorua this weekend, but KartSport Taranaki is not represented by any Rotax drivers this year. I see KartSport NZ is still tinkering with the rules and I am not sure they are winning too many friends with this incessant desire to

“fiddle”. Just my opinion, but if they focussed more on the actual issue of removing barriers for people to want to come and race, we might all be better off…. There hasn’t been any progress in getting the “Have-A-Go” kart on the Todd Energy Raceway of late, we’re hoping to give that another push shortly and hoping to get the Cadet chassis from Rotorua as soon as possible to give us more options for the public. The sponsor’s fun day will be attended by 5 representatives from Todd Energy, and we have had some members kindly donate the use of their machines for these people to have some fun in. Thank you to those members, your generosity is very much appreciated! It is important we keep our sponsors on board, as we could not function without these businesses (Todd Energy, The Radio Network, Transpacific, TSB Community Trust, TET, Supreme Kart Supplies, EHL Group etc). The new Gough TWL Summer Series kicks off on 22 February and Murray Podjursky has generously donated significant prizes to be given away at each round. Please support Gough TWL and the club as we head into a new series of race meetings designed to encourage you, our members, to come along and compete and have some fun. That’s about enough from me…. See you all soon Robert For those heading back to school… this one’s for you
