FEBRUARY 2013 Hi Parents and Guardians, Semester 1 has ended and a new one has begun. If you have not received your student’s semester 1 grade report by the end of this week please contact the registrar’s office. If you have a student that failed a course it is important to have your student enroll in an online retrieval course rather than wait until the senior year. If your student is a senior make sure that your student meets with a counselor to see what is needed to retrieve credit required for graduation. Last week we held a senior class meeting and shared information about the upcoming March 20 th and 21 st senior exit interviews. We will have half days on these two days so all staff may participate on senior interview panels. Juniors will have an opportunity to sign up in the career center to observe senior exit interviews. Our underclassmen will have opportunities on these two half days in March to do community service as well as register for classes for the upcoming year. It is important that your senior student be thinking and preparing for the upcoming presentations. The student presentation portion needs to be 5 to 10 minutes and must include a visual. All information pertaining to the senior exit interviews is on our web page. Please make sure to connect with your senior and support them in preparing for the interviews. During the senior meeting I stressed with seniors the importance of completing online courses by the required deadline. All online courses must be completed and grades posted to transcripts with our registrar no later than May 24, 2013. There are no extensions so, please make sure to monitor the progress of your student if they are taking any online courses. Seniors must meet all graduation requirements in order to participate in the graduation ceremony; this means online courses must be done and grades submitted by May 24, 2013. If you have any questions please contact your student’s counselor. We want every senior to succeed and meet the requirements so they can participate and receive their diploma. Posted on the web page is a chart listing the dates for all the upcoming senior activities/events. A copy is included in this edition of Wolf Tracks. As we enter into this last half of the year, I would also like to stress the importance of relationships and behaviors that reflect respect. In our interactions with each other we will have differences of opinions but how we react to those differences is crucial. Bullying, intimidation, and harassment are issues facing schools across the country and we want to make sure BHHS continues to be a safe positive place for our students and staff. FEBRUARY 2013

Hi Parents and Guardians,

Semester 1 has ended and a new one has begun. If you have not received your

student’s semester 1 grade report by the end of this week please contact the registrar’s office. If you have a student that failed a course it is important to have your student

enroll in an online retrieval course rather than wait until the senior year. If your student is a senior make sure that your student meets with a counselor to see what is

needed to retrieve credit required for graduation.

Last week we held a senior class meeting and shared information about the upcoming

March 20th and 21st senior exit interviews. We will have half days on these two days so all staff may participate on senior interview panels. Juniors will have an opportunity to

sign up in the career center to observe senior exit interviews. Our underclassmen will have opportunities on these two half days in March to do community service as well as

register for classes for the upcoming year. It is important that your senior student be

thinking and preparing for the upcoming presentations. The student presentation portion needs to be 5 to 10 minutes and must include a visual. All information

pertaining to the senior exit interviews is on our web page. Please make sure to connect with your senior and support them in preparing for the interviews.

During the senior meeting I stressed with seniors the importance of completing online

courses by the required deadline. All online courses must be completed and grades

posted to transcripts with our registrar no later than May 24, 2013. There are no extensions so, please make sure to monitor the progress of your student if they are

taking any online courses. Seniors must meet all graduation requirements in order to participate in the graduation ceremony; this means online courses must be done and

grades submitted by May 24, 2013. If you have any questions please contact your

student’s counselor. We want every senior to succeed and meet the requirements so they can participate and receive their diploma. Posted on the web page is a chart listing

the dates for all the upcoming senior activities/events. A copy is included in this edition of Wolf Tracks.

As we enter into this last half of the year, I would also like to stress the importance of relationships and behaviors that reflect respect. In our interactions with each other we

will have differences of opinions but how we react to those differences is crucial. Bullying, intimidation, and harassment are issues facing schools across the country and

we want to make sure BHHS continues to be a safe positive place for our students and staff. Please talk with your student about bullying and continue to increase awareness

The Football team has, in the past, been recognized with this same award

in 1999, 2001, 2007, and 2009. When one considers 3-A state playoff appearances in 2001, 2002, and 2004, 2-A state playoff appearances in

2008 and 2009, and Pioneer Bowl victories in 2003, 2004, and 2009, you get a clear picture of what a quality Football program we have at Black

FIRST ANNUAL FAMILY HEALTH AND FITNESS NIGHT

Girls Tennis begins on Monday, February 25th. We had a lot of seniors graduate last year, so all spots on the team are wide open for competition. This is a no cut program and we often get girls who have never played a sport before and they become very good players! Tennis is a lifetime sport and we have a lot of fun hitting balls at practice. Most of our time is spent just hitting the ball and learning how to play correctly, appreciate the sport and have fun. Remember, we take all ability levels and remember to bring a friend out! Tennis is a great way to get fit, have fun, get a tan, be with your friends...and best of all- tennis lasts a lifetime! You must be cleared by the ASB Office in order to play. Questions: Contact Greg Bert, Head Coach, [email protected] We also have loaner racquets. See you on the courts!

The Black Hills DECA club recently competed at Area competition at the Little Creek Casino in Shelton. We had 90 students competing in categories ranging from sports and entertainment marketing to apparel and accessories. Our members prepared for weeks in advance, taking practice tests and reviewing performance indicators right up to their presentation time. All of their hard work paid off and Black Hills has 22 students heading to the State Career Development Conference in March. The State competition, which is held annually in Bellevue, is an incredible three day trip that allows DECA members to learn and grow, both as individuals and as members of an organization. Also coming up soon is the annual Father-Daughter Dance that DECA puts on to help offset the cost of the previously stated conference.

Organized and hosted by DECA students, the dance is always a huge success and much beloved by the elementary aged girls in the area. This year's theme is California Dreams and DECA is dedicated to giving every little girl the VIP treatment. The dance will be held on February 23rd from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Black Hills High School. As in previous' years, we expect this dance to go very well, aiding DECA state-goers while also providing the young girls of our community with a magical night they will never forget.

The Lady Wolves have earned a trip to Districts!!! After many months of sweat, hard work, and dedication during the regular season the girls basketball team has fought to earn a #3 seed into post season district play. Please congratulate these girls when you see

them. Our first district game will be Friday February 8th at 7:00 site TBA.

A huge congrats to Ashley Aarts for being the top individual qualifier for the state bowling tournament at districts January 25th. Her three games were 265 (school record), 180, and

190, for a 3-game series of 635 (school record). The team finished as league champions for

the third year in a row, but did not make the cut for state with a 7th place finish at districts. At state on February 1st Ashley averaged 193 over 6 games to finish 7th at the combined

2A/3A State Bowling Championships. She was awesome! It was a blast to watch such a great kid do her best when it really counted and stay focused throughout the long day.
