DescriptionTheCPS-24Nisareliable,highqualityPhotoelectricSmokeDetector.ItcanbeusedinallopenareaswherePhotoelectricSmokeDetectorsarerequired,includingin-ductapplications.Thecomputer-designedsmokechambermakestheCPS-24Nwellsuitedfordetectingsmolderingfiresaswellasfast-flamingfires.

OperationTheCPS-24NphotoelectricsmokedetectorutilizesonebicoloredLEDforindicationofstatus.InanormalstandbyconditiontheLEDflashGreenevery3seconds.WhenthedetectorsensesthatitssensitivityhasdriftedoutsidetheULlistedsensitivitywindowtheLEDwillflashRedevery3seconds.WhenthedetectorsensessmokeandgoesintoalarmthestatusLEDwilllatchonRed.ThedetectorutilizesaninfraredLEDlightsourceandsiliconphotodiodereceivingelementinthesmokechamber.Inanormalstandbycondition,thereceivingelementreceivesnolightfromthepulsingLEDlightsource.Intheeventofafire,smokeentersthedetectorsmokechamberandlightisreflectedfromthesmokeparticlestothereceivingelement.Thelightreceivedisconvertedintoanelectronicsignal.FireJudgementsignalsareprocessedandcomparedtoareferencelevel,andwhenfiveconsecutivesignalsexceedingthereferencelevelarereceivedwithinaspecifiedperiodoftime,thetimedelaycircuittriggerstheSCRswitchtoactivatethealarmsignal.ThestatusLEDlightscontinuouslyduringthealarmperiod.

Thecontractor shall furnishand installwhere indicatedon theplans,Potter Electric Signal CPS-24N photoelectric smoke detectors. Thecombination detector head and twist-lock base shall be UL listedcompatiblewithaULlistedfirealarmpanel.The base shall permit direct interchange with Potter CPS-24VNcombinationphotoelectricsmokedetector.Thebaseshallbeappropriatetwist-lockbaseSBSeries. In theeventofpartialorcompleteretrofit,the CPS-24Nmay be used in conjunctionwith, or as a replacementfor,Potterdetectors(PS-24,PS-24Hand theIS-24)onmostSBbaseapplications.The smoke detector shall have one flashing status LED for visualsupervision.When thedetector is instandbycondition theLEDwillflash Green. When the detector is outside the UL listed sensitivitywindow the LEDwill flash Red.When the detector is actuated, theflashingLEDwilllatchonRed.Thedetectormayberesetbyactuatingthecontrolpanelresetswitch.The sensitivity of the detector shall be capable of being measured.The sensitivity of the detector shall be monitored automatically andcontinuously toverify that it is operatingwithin the listed sensitivityrange. To facilitate installation, the detector shall be non-polarized.VoltageandRFtransientsuppressiontechniquesshallbeemployedtominimizefalsealarmpotential.AuxiliarySPDTrelaysshallbeinstalledwhereindicated.
