It’s a voice that provides a richness of sound that makes praise and worship music spiritually persuading. On Sunday, Oct. 26, First Baptist Church of Huntsville will host a free dedicatory recital in the sanctuary at 2 p.m., followed by a reception in the church’s parlor. “I love Sunday morning music,” First Baptist member Carolyn Gaines said. “This organ cer- tainly adds a reverence and calm to the soul that prepares the heart to hear what God has to offer.” The newly restored Austin Opus 1544 pipe organ was built in 1929 for the First Church of Christ Scientist of Glencoe, Illinois. In 2009, the church in Illinois was sold to a Korean Presbyterian congregation who wanted to use the balcony space. “This is one of the few remaining 19th century American organs still in operation today,” said Jeff Bradley, First Baptist Church supporter. “This type of organ has long been regarded as DPS offers free ID certificates for election BY cODY StARk cStARk@ItemONlINe.cOm After a federal appeals court ruled Tuesday that Texas’ voter ID law will remain in effect for the November election, the state announced on the same day that it will resume providing a free form of identification. The Texas Department of Public Safety is now issuing Election Identification Certificates (EIC) for registered voters who do not have one of the acceptable forms of photo ID to cast a ballot on Nov. 4 or during early voting, which runs Oct. 20- 31. Residents who have the following form of ID do not need an EIC: Texas driver license; Texas per- sonal identification card; U.S. passport book or card; Texas concealed handgun license; U.S. Military identification with photo; and U.S. citizen- ship certificate or certificate of naturalization with photo. HISD student pulled from bus with BB gun tHe HuNtSvIlle Item Huntsville ISD reports that an elementary student brought an Airsoft BB gun with a supply of plastic BBs to school Wednesday. The student displayed the gun on the bus and dis- charged an orange plastic BB during the morning route to the loading dock. Another student reported the incident to the bus driver and the transportation staff immediately addressed the issue. The parents were contacted and appropriate disci- plinary action was taken. No one was injured in the incident. HISD reminds all students and families that all campuses and facil- ities are weapon free zones.
