4- 0 !!!Espanayol conquistar !!! They came, they defended and showed, why they are the best team in the world. Over 60,000 people in the stadium and millions of viewers worldwide witnessed the strength of Spain. David Silva opened the score with an exciting goal , and after that it was writ-ten that Spain will retain the Euro Championship once again. Critisized for playing dull and not offensive enough, Spain with this victory has shut the mouth of its criticizers. However, Italy’s performance in the championship is plausible, it truly played like a team. Having been unsure to play in the Euro cup and reaching to the finals is an achievement. Mario Balotelli was like a bull in the championship. His performance was the best in the cup.

Déjà vu for Germany ! They lost in the semi-finals of the last world cup and the same this time. When will this bad luck end ?

Mario Balotelli was the star of Euro. The higest scorer (3 goals), dominat-ed the germany game. After that, the germans will surely fear this italian bull.

EURO LOOK BACK

Andres Iniesta was sensational in Euro 2012. He didn’t score a goal but he was the backbone of Spain. He was declared the best player in Euro. He said in an interview , “Goals does not matter, as much as the Team win”

Page 40: FEATURE MAGAZINE JUNE JULY

Delhi University is really mission impossible, even for Ethan Hunt. But jokes apart , this is a controversial topic which has affected or will affect our lives. Cut off ‘s of the colleges are out, and it is astonishing to see the increase in it. However, this year Kapil Sibal kept his words, and avoided 100% cut offs which made headlines last year. It’s a relief for some, but for a lot of people it still is an issue. All over India, students have high hopes of getting into Delhi University and many work a lot, to get in. But the question is why they work? What is so special about Delhi University? The answer cannot be described in a sentence. However, if to summarize it, many DU colleges are very old and have earned a reputation for themselves. Many famous people have done their higher education from Delhi university and these people have cre-ated a name for themselves. DU is controlled by the educations adminis-tration of the government, therefore it is affordable and inexpensive. This being one of the main reasons, many students prefer DU better than the private colleges who charge high fees for similar education.

VOICE OF THE YOUTH REPORTS

ISSUES IN THE NEWSDELHI UNIVERSITY

WHICH ONE ?A boy from Delhi , got 89% in his 12th boards . He tried in many good colleges in DU , but couldn’t get in. His Family got so fed up with the Indian Educational System, that they

pooled their resources and sent their son to the US . Now the boy is at Cornell. Many similar incidents happened this year. A girl missed in getting to SRCC by 1 % , she

applied to LSE and got in easily.

London University has introduced scholarship plans for Indian Students. The announce-ment was made just after the cut off list was out. The reason was to attract the students

who got good percentage but couldn’t get into DU.

A girl committed suicide after she failed to get into any good DU college. A major setback for the family as they only had one child. The school reported that she was average in aca-

demics but was exceptional in extracurricular activities.

For this year the Sport’s Quota has been revised. Now there will be equal weight age of certificates and trials. When asked about this some people said that ‘a person who hasn’t got many certificates but is good in the trials will fail to get in’ . Also nowadays forged certificates are available, so people can easily get in pretending to be good in sports and

leaving the deserved out of the competition.

Page 44: FEATURE MAGAZINE JUNE JULY

“I think DU high cut offs are unnecessary and only pressur-ize the students increasing the stress and tension. This leads to a worse performance and an uncertain future ”

“According to the difficulty level of CBSE, the high cut offs are neccessary. It is easy to score 90% or above in 12th boards. Therefore there are no reasons to have less cut offs ”

Bhavesh RajaniStudent, 17

Pankaj JhaTeacher, 37

High Cut off is a major issue. It has affected me when I applied in Hindu. The government should do something becase this is stupidity having a 99-100% cut off. Tell the people who decide the cut off to themselves get a 99% in thier boards

Sonia Students at Hindu “

”The cut offs each year are getting higher and the students are only selected on the basis of thier marks. Indian Universities have really lagged behind especially Delhi UNiversity.

Gaurav Singh DU

I am doing IB , and yes its an international board. People in Inida have a wrong percep-tion about international boards . We all don’t want to study in abroad. I want to do English Honours , but due to there is no recognition of Ib , I have to go to a private university!!So government please do something !!

Sakshi IB STUDENT

“”

Page 45: FEATURE MAGAZINE JUNE JULY

1- Getting more colleges in DU. Government should add more colleges so it the seats supply meet its demand.

2- Having a standardised entrance exam, like SAT ( USA ) so that a stu-dent’s marks are not the only criterion in the admission process

3- Credit System Giving credits to extraordinary students who have utilized their knowl-edge to the fullest and have done exceptionally well in theirfield of in-terest.

4- Development of other DU collegesMost students only focus on the elite colleges in DU because other col-leges in DU are not good. So government should promote these other colleges, so that students can have more options and are not only de-pendent on a handful of colleges.

5- Private University should take initiatives Private university should develope themselves in giving quality educa-tion. They should also have more scholorship schemes, so that the stu-dents who couldn’t get into DU can get into the private universities.

SOLUTIONS

To raise your voice about the issue , post it on our facebook page - facebook.com/featuremagazine or write to us at [email protected]

We want all of you to take part in our initiative and discuss the issues , so that the youth of our country can be aware of the problems happening around them

Europe a dream destination for eve-ryone.Their natural history , their rich heritage and their culture would show you a beautiful world. My trip to europe focused on two of the most hot destinations of europe. France and Switzerland. The amazing lifestyle of France and the beauty of Switzerland had my mind blown. The place that should be definitely visited in France should be Paris. The helping nature of people in Paris in front of our Indian nature, would make you feel special. Although there are many places to visit in Paris like the Eiffel Tower, I would recommend a visit to their metro. The metro system

of Paris is worlds one of the oldest and best metro system, but beware of the pickpockets. Next up,Switzerland. The natural beauty is itself the token of must visit of Switzerland. The best thing one would see in Switzerland is the trust that people have in each other. They would not even bother to check train or tram tickets. Recommended places to visit in Switzerland are the city of Geneva , Mount Titlis , a choclate factory and any shop retailing Patek Philippe. All in all these two counties are incredible and should be on a must see list. - NITISH KHURANA

Here comes the part which no one really loves but have to do. Select-ing your university is just not about choosing where you will go or what you will study. It is about planning your future.

4 steps to planning your future

The first step is to decide what your interests are and what are your strenghts? While answering these questions, keep in mind your academic performance in all your subjects and how much more you can imporove in each. There might be a situation where you are not doing good in a particular subject of your liking.

Knowing Your Strengths

After you have finished knowing your favorite subject choices, it is time to talk to some of your elders. Combine a few subjects and look for courses which fit the requirements. Always have a plan B because things don’t go as planned many times and it might discourage you.

Know Your Options

Selecting the programme was the difficlut part. After you have done that, it is easy to shortlist universi-ties. Now, while selecting colleges keep in mind geographical and climatic preference, tuition fees. Start with going through the top 10 or top 20 lists in various countries for your preferred course. Add colleges to your list.

College Finding

Look through what universities require for the preffered course like standardised tests or language based tests. Prepare for them and the most important thing is to not forget you school while doing this. Afterall it is your grades in the school which will matter the most. GOOD LUCK!

The BMW X1 , the redefined 3 series , is the baby SUV made by one of the most reputed German company in the world. I’m sure we all must have seen the BMW 3 series , haven’t we ? The engine of the 3 series is exactly what the X1 possesses which has a mind blowing power and torque , 180@4000(Ps@rpm) and 400@1750 (Nm@rpm). This also comes with a peaking speed of 205 km/hr. Moving on the purchasing abili-ties , this baby SUV can be brought at prices ranging from INR 2500000 till INR 3200000 which is a few lakh rupees less than the Audi Q3. Initially when the X1 hit the market , we expected a fight with the Honda CRV which had no match to it despite the un usual body structure of the X1 compared to the CRV. The X1 , SUV, has an elongated body structure with the engine area consuming most of the area. The X1 definitely doesn’t have the capacity to hold more than 4. This very product is ideal for those aspiring to have the brand at their garage but for those who do have the ability to move slightly ahead , to the 3 series would be highly recommend-ed. What other than the body does the X1 have to reveal ?

Its fully 6-automatic gear box enables the rider to have his pleasure filled ride. Though this gearbox has no option to shift to manual at any given point of time. The driver seat is perfectly done which satisfies drivers who drive long routes. Doesn’t let you be exhausted but keeps you going. The multi-media deck , slightly angled towards the driver seat for easier control. The company claims to have a fuel economy of 16km/h which is really high compared to its prices and engine specs.

One surprising fact ? The company doesn’t give an extra tier in any of their car. They claim that the car would easily com-plete 100 to 150 km after having punctured tier. This is one set back to the consumers as they feel insecure about this fact yet keeping this aside , the sales of BMW X1 have definitely risen.

The Audi Q3 ,the first of its kind on the Indian roads. The Audi Q3 is a SUV meant for the youth of today where they enjoy speed and thrill of driving. The Q3 begins at higher price compared to the BMW X1 . The Q3 begins at INR 3000000 while BMW X1 at INR 2500000 , which is a significant amount. Apart from the pricing , lets move on to what the Audi Q3 has in store for us ?The Q3 is meant for 4 individuals’ as its width is same as the BMW X1. Its comfort level , which in-cludes our leg space specially for the tall ones at the back isn’t quite satisfying when everyone’s sitting on the 4 seats. If your tall , the leg space might be a problem if it isn’t a self driven car. At the back its arm rest comes with 2 cup and bottle holders , firm enough to hold a bottle even after brak-ing instantaneously at a speed of 100km/h. Moving on to the drivers seat which is the cockpit of the vehicle , is fully equipped with gadgets which enables the driver to drive at his most comfort way possible. The cruise control enables him to control not only the multimedia services but also the climate control which is important during a long drive. Its multi-tiptronic gear box enables you to have a shift to manual if required at any given point in time while driving. Another surprise for its customers would to know that it has 7-automatic gears. This gearbox also ensures best fuel economy for your ve-hicle. When driving in city , the vehicle is expected to give an overall average of 14km/l which tremendous for the Indian buyers. A 2L TDI engine with power and torque of 176@4200(Ps@rpm) , and 380@1750(Nm@rpm) enables the driver to take this baby beast to a thrilling 210km/hr. Ending this , we have its outer look which isn’t really appealing to its price. The body of the AUDI Q3 seems to be a lady’s car with a hatch-back and low on height even after being classified as a SUV.

PETER PARKER, ABANDONED BY HIS PARENTS AS A KID, NOW LIVES WITH HIS UNCLE AND AUNT. AFTER DISCOVERING HIS FATHER’S BRIEFCASE, PETER GETS ON A JOURNEY TO FIND HOW HIS PARENTS DISSA-PEARED AND WHO HE IS. ON THIS JOURNEY HE MEETS DR CONNORS, A SCIENTIST AND HIS FATHER’S OLD FRIEND. THE JOURNEY TURNS INTO A MISSION TO STOP THE LIZARD AND SAVE THE WORLD. HERE COMES PETER AS SPIDERMAN-THE HERO TO SAVE NEW YORK CITY.THE AMAZING SPIDERMAN STARTS OFF WITH THE EPI-LOGUE OF PETER’S PARENTS LEAVING HIM AT HIS AUNCLE’S HOUSE AND DISSAPPEARING. THEN, PETER IS SHOWN TO BE IN HIGH SCHOOL AS A TEENAGER BULLYING, HIGH SCHOOL CRUSH, TEENAGE ISSUES AND AN UNMISTAKABLE URGE TO FIND ABOUT HIS PARENTS. ALL OF THIS LEADS HIM TO OSCORP WHERE HE GETS BITTEN BY A SPIDER. THEN STARTS THE VOYAGE OF SELF DISCOVERY AS SPIDERMAN. THE FIRST HALF OF THE MOVIE IS DEDICATED TO PETER AND HIS LIFE. THIS NARRATION BRINGS THE AUDIENCE TO EMPATHIZE WITH THE HERO AND UNDERSTAND HIM BETTER. ANDREW GRAFILED AS SPIDERMAN DOES FULL JUSTICE TO HIS ROLE AND BRINGS THE TRUE CHARACTER OF A TEEN-AGER PLAYING WITH A NEW TOY IN THEIR HAND.EMMA STONE’S CHARACTER IS SLIGHLY OVER MATURED AC-CORDING TO HER AGE ALTHOUGH SHE TRIES HARD TO GET THE SCHOOLISH LOOK. THE VILLIAN, THE LIZ-ARD IS FAR FROM IMPRESSIVE. WHEN HE SHAPES INTO A LIZARD, HE STILL KEEP SPEAKING IN THE FUNNY VOICE WHICH DOES NOTHING BUT MAKE PEOPLE LAUGH. THE MOVIE IS GREAT BUT IF THE VILLIAN WAS BET-TER, IT TRULY WOULD HAVE BEEN AMAZING. THIS MOVIE IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

KATIE - CRUISE DIVORCE !!! Yes you heard it right, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are getting Divorce. Nothing has confirmed right now , but due to various sources it has found out that the reason for the split was Cruise’s obsessive belief towards Scientology. He was so obsessed that he wanted his daughter to practice Scientology. Katie was opposed to this idea , and thus the Divorce news flourished. Divorce happens frequently in Holly-wood , and it will continue to happen . Well this mission is surely impossible for our Mr.Hunt.

Fashion in today’s world describes one’s personality. May that be a trip to the mall, a show to catch, or to go to a party; everyone just feels like dressing up!

ITS SUMMER! Bright colours are very in, and will do you good too! Hues like bright blue, orange, yellow and clas-sic white! Now, as we all know jumpsuits are very trendy these days. They make you look tall, give a very classy look and also are very fashionable. They are like a one piece dress with pants/shorts and a shirt/tee. Jumpsuits are best available at forever 21, Promod, VeroModa and Mango.

Don’t want to flaunt your leg? Go with pants, jeans and moreover torn jeans. They look really cool and summery. Pants are one of the most hip apparel these days. Shirts tucked with high waist loose fit pants. They are comfort-able, and are very easy to go with.

HELL YEAH! It’s partaaayy time! What to wear? High-tight skirt with a sleeveless tee is good enough. Makes the two pieces look like one! Accessorize it with some sexy neck filling jewellery, with a dark eyeliner and a sexy pair of heels and you’re all set to go! Also, nowadays backless dresses are also in fashion. A decent dress, but backless. Don’t play with colors, just keep it sexy.

Let me update you girls with one of the most renowned fashion fact: Never wear more than three colors unless you want to look like a circus tent. Colors only work if you play them well

Coming to footwears! Well! Well! the days of wearing high pointed heels are gone! Nowadays, something comfortable does you good. Heels too come with a very thick base so that it’s fashionable and at the same time it’s sexy. For those kinds of heels, one can try Zara, Steve maiden, nine-west and Aldo. Flats, more or less like gladiators or in one’s language, Roman type flats are very inn. They go with everything! And are very comfortable as well. In footwear too, try going for very bright colors, and always make sure whatever footwear you’re wearing, never sync it with your attire. Might sound a bit weird but that’s what fashion is about- CHANGE. It should be of a completely different color, and should be a stand out!Say bye to clutches and hello to slings! Slings purses just go with every kind of attire. They too shouldn’t be matching or in sync with your attire. Go for bright colors, and make yourself feel so summery! Because that’s what summers are all about. In the end, don’t forget to put on those sexy shades! Wayfarers are favorable for now!

Well, this was your dose of fashion for Summer 2012, Will keep you updated with anything new. Till then KEEP IN VOGUE! BY SAVYA JAIN
