Dear Parishioners, Today we celebrate Father’s Day! On behalf of the entire parish staff here at St. Martin dePorres, I want to wish all fathers, stepfathers, godfathers, grandfathers and fathers to be a very happy and holy father’s day. Whenever I reflect on the image of what a father is supposed to be, I always see St. Joseph at the model. St. Joseph is truly the model of what it means to be a good and holy father. He served as the provider and protector for his family. Even in the midst of his fear and worry for them, he never ceased carrying out the mission of what a father is supposed to for his family. We pray that through the powerful intercession of St. Joseph, Christian fathers will continue to grow in their vocation as faithful, holy and patient fathers. Life Teen Retreat at St. John’s University Next weekend, 8 youth representatives from our parish will participate in the Life Teen retreat at St. John’s University. This retreat, which is geared for young boys and girls, is sponsored by Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio. Each summer, Life Teen hosts four different Steubenville Youth Conferences (East, West, NYC, and Atlanta) with the hopes of strengthening and inspiring teens and youth groups in their collective journeys to Christ. Evangelistic in nature, these weekend conferences are both a great “introduction” to the Gospel message for new or younger teens, while offering deep and moving experiences of prayer and fellowship for Youth Group regulars. It is my hope that these 8 representatives will be able to share some of the experiences they had while on this retreat. Over the summer, I will be working with our catechists from the Faith Formation Program (Sunday School) to put together a parish youth group. More details about our new parish youth group will emerge over the coming weeks ahead. Please pray for our parish representatives on retreat next weekend. School of Faith Formation Registration Registration for the 2016-2017 school year for Faith Formation will begin this weekend. There will be representatives from our Faith Formation team available after the Masses this weekend to distribute registration forms and a tentative calendar. If a child is not enrolled in Catholic school, they must be enrolled in our Faith Formation program. The Diocese has mandated a two-year preparation period for a child to receive the sacrament of First Communion and Confirmation. All children between the ages of 6 and 16 must be enrolled in the parish Faith Formation program. Please see one of the representatives after Mass for more information. Have a great week, Father Alonzo Cox
