21 August 2017
Dear Parents, We are now over half-way through Term 3, and as we approach September we
look forward to some kinder weather. It is also a time when the school staff begin planning
for the following year. We ask if you or any family or friends intend to enrol children for 2018
could you please complete the enrolment form as soon as possible to help us with our for-
ward planning.
Friday August 25: Grade 3/4 excursion to Scienceworks. Once again our students will be
visiting the excellent Scienceworks as part of their Integrated Studies program. The children
and staff are really looking forward to another exciting trip to Scienceworks.
Monday August 28: Our Foundation grades are very excited about their upcoming trip to
Essendon Traffic School. The children will be learning about what they can do to help them
be safer around traffic. This is a great learning environment where children are able to expe-
rience lots of the dangers of everyday traffic whilst being in a safe, simulated environment.
Literacy and Numeracy. Every year we enjoy the great events that we take part in as part of
the state-wide Literacy and Numeracy Week. Please see the attached sheet which sets out all
the dates. Please note these have changed since the last information sheet went home.
Grade 3-6 school camp. This year children from Grades 3-6 have the option to take part in
our camp to Golden Valleys Lodge in Flinders (near Rosebud) The week-long camp is a great
opportunity for children to experience some time in a different environment while doing fun,
educational activities. Apart from the enjoyment aspect the experiences the children gain
from being one of a large group interacting with their school mates and teachers is invalua-
ble. The children who attend always say that camp was one of the most enjoyable and mem-
orable experiences of their time at primary school. Each year we do different activities and
have different memories from each previous year and we encourage all children to attend.
The cost for the 5 day camp is $250. This cost covers transport to and from the venue, ac-
commodation for 5 days/4 night in comfortable, supervised rooms with their own toilet and
showering facilities, food for all meals except the first day’s lunch, (all meals are cooked by
our own school staff, and all are healthy and suitable for children from all backgrounds and
cultures), all activities while on camp etc. Usually we have about 35-40 children attend with 5
-7 staff members. We ensure the venues we stay at are of the highest quality and meet strict
safety standards as set out by the Education Department. The children are always fully super-
vised and safety is always of the highest importance.

AFL 9’S & HOOP TIME On Wednesday the 16th and Thursday the 17th of Au-
gust, some of the grade 5/6s had very big days. On
Wednesday we went to AFL9’s and on Thursday we
had Hoop Time
There were two teams that played in AFL which were
the mixed that had mainly all boys and two girls and
the only girls team. The games were held at Charles
Mutton Reserve. Unfortunately the mixed team wasn’t
successful and didn’t get any wins but on the other
hand the girls team got two out of six wins. It was a
very windy day so it was quite hard to play in such a
weather but we tried our best. Everyone had very good
behaviour, sportsmanship and importantly had an awe-
some time! We would like to thank Miss Kelly, Mr Ri-
cardi, Miss K and Paula for coming along to support us.
The next day after AFL was Hoop Time which was on Thursday the 17th of August. Hoop Time was held at the
Broadmeadows Basketball Club. We had three teams where were: Fawkner Falcons, Fawkner Firebirds and Faw-
kner Flames. Fawkner Falcons won 3 out of 4 games and got into the finals but sadly lost but still came 4th out of
ten other teams. Fawkner Firebirds won 1 out of 3 games and one was a tie. Fawkner Flames won 2 out of 4
games. The competition was absurd and very tough and the tension was very high and I believe that we all tried
our best and we all should be extremely proud of ourselves. We would again love to thank Miss Kelly, Mr Ricardi
and Miss K for coming along with us and also organising this special event.
On last note I myself had a ton of fun and I’m certainly sure that everyone else who went did too which totally paid
off training in extremely freezing weather and getting bossed around. Be we were extremely lucky to have amazing
teachers coach us and we cannot thank them enough for their efforts.

9.15 ‘SUPER DUPER ‘Performance in BER Building
“Echelon Productions” produce high quality performances for Primary students which inspire literacy and reading. Using quirky and imaginative storylines, these highly talented performers energetically entertain and enthral audiences with come-dy, role-play, storytelling and imaginative escapades.
SUPER DUPER is a brand new educational musical for schools with an exciting, dy-namic and interactive narrative created to celebrate Book Week 2017, the CBC shortlist and its 2017 theme Escape to Everywhere. Exploring the themes of striving to be your best and not underestimating people’s potential, SUPER DUPER also literally gets students involved in the story as deci-sions made by the audience during the show help determine what happens. Plus there is a surprise at the very end that reinforces the themes of inclusiveness and understanding every individual’s potential to achieve.
Learning Areas: English, The Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences, Health and Physical Education General Capabilities: Literacy, Critical and Creative Thinking, Personal and Social Capability, Ethical Understand-ing Themes: Inclusiveness, Acceptance of Others, Reading and Literacy, Imagination, Drama, Music, Dance Testimonial: Wow!
