Tanzania We have commenced works for the Kalpataru Power India (KPTL) project which is funded by Swedish International Development Agency, for the installation of Transmission Lines in Tanzania, trans- porting equipment from Zambia. We also launched our Airfreight product with quotations for the trans- portation of live mud crabs from Dar Es Salaam to Singapore and Hong Kong on behalf of Bahari Bounty, one of Tanzania’s leading fish & seafood exporters, who also have regular transport of reefers to Rotterdam and Lisbon consigned to Dutch importers Anova Food. Uganda The cooperation and joint office set-up with SEKO Logistics has led to an increase in business volumes, predominantly on the airfreight side with 40 import shipments ex Dubai & China handled from mid-March onward. Rwanda/Eastern DRCThe market has been very competitive with a decrease in Inland transport rates per container from Dar Es Salaam, to which our regu-lar transporters have agreed to reduce their contract rates. We are successfully handling the ongoing “BCEG” contract from China to Kigali with a total of 22 DDP containers delivered over this period. In Groupage we see a continuation of the upward trend as a result of our improved Customer Service activities and better communication with those clients in Goma and Bukavu. The cooperation with Ship-ping GL has enabled us to move number of airfreights import ship-ments via Kigali to Goma (medical supplies), reviving our cross-bor-der transit trucking service from Rwanda to DRC. SGL is currently quoting on a tender from the Indian army through our offices in New Dehli, involving the movement of 250 vehicles via Kigali to Goma whilst the first requests for regular FCL traffic ex Dubai have also started to come in.

ZambiaAlthough the economic situation is far from good we expect an increase of business now that the Kwacha is gaining value against the US Dollar. The new Sales Team is actively promot-ing airfreight export services and the air import volumes from Dubai and China are on the increase. We are currently quoting on the transportation of helicopter parts from Lusaka to Singa-pore on behalf of China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Corporation (CATIC) through fellow WCA member Beijing Harmony Shipping & Forwarding Agent.

You only have one chance to make that first impression which will be invaluable to building trust and confi-dence.

“There are four ways, only four ways, in which we have contact with the world. We are evaluated and classi-

fied by these four contacts: what we do, how we look, what we say, and how we say it” - (Dale Carnegie,

American Educator).

It is important that whether for business or personal use, you follow the basics of email etiquette.

When it comes to your business e-mail communications, you need to make an impression that can lead to the determination that you are a credible professional enterprise and someone who will be easy and a plea-sure to do business with.

General Email Protocol 1. Make sure your e-mail includes a courteous greeting and closing. Helps to make your e-mail not

seem demanding or rude.

2. Address your contact with the appropriate level of formality and make sure you spell their name

correctly.

3. Be sure your name is reflected properly in the From: field. Jane A. Doe (not jane, jane doe or JANE

DOE).

4. Never assume the intent of an email. If you are not sure — ask so as to avoid unnecessary misun

derstandings.

5. Just because someone doesn’t ask for a response doesn’t mean you ignore them. Always acknowl

edge emails in a timely manner (Do not acknowledge to spam/unknown sender)

6. Be sure the Subject: field accurately reflects the content of your email.

7. Don’t hesitate to say thank you, how are you, or appreciate your help!

8. Keep emails brief and to the point. Save long conversations for the old fashioned telephone.

9. Typing your emails in all small case gives the perception of lack of education or laziness.

10. Always end your emails with “Thank you,” “Sincerely,” “Best regards” .

To, From, CC, BCc, Subject 1. Include addresses in the To: field for those who you would like a response from.

2. Include addresses in the Cc: field for those who you are just FYI’ing.

3. Make sure your name is displayed properly in the From: field.

4. Remove addresses from the To:, CC; and BCc: fields that don’t need to see your reply.

5. Make sure when using BCc: that your intentions are proper. To send BCc: copies to others as a way

of talking behind someone’s back is inconsiderate.

6. Think about your motives when adding addresses to To:, CC:, BCc. Use your discretion.

7. Always include a brief Subject. No subject can get your email flagged as spam.

Email Forwarding1. Don’t forward emails that say to do so–no matter how noble the cause may be. Most are hoaxes or

nonsense and may not be appreciated by those you send to.

2. If someone asks you to refrain from forwarding emails they have that right and you shouldn’t get

mad or take it personally.

3. When forwarding email, please type a personal comment to the person you are forwarding to.

Email Considerations1. With emotionally charged emails, wait for a while, rethink and respond in a positively professional

manner.

2. And finally… Type unto others as you would have them type unto you!
