KonercontactedanoutreachworkerinPembrokewiththesimpleideaoflinkingfamiliessheknewwith“more”tofamilieswithless,andwasgiventhenamesof17oftheneediestPembrokefamilies.Shethenconvinced16friendsandneighborstojoinher,andtheyeachbegansendingmonthlyboxesoffood(andleYers)to“their”matchedfamilies.Family‐to‐Familywasborn.17familiessoongrewto60…anda]eraflurryofmediaexposure(includingcoveragebyCBS News,The New York Times,Oprah Magazine,People MagazineandReader’s Digest),60familiesgrewtoover750linkedfamiliesacrosstheU.S.

Ourover1,700dona-ngfamilymemberscurrentlycomefrom32states.Annualdona-onsforthepurchaseoffoodforindividualfamiliestotalapproximately$157,000.F‐to‐Fcurrentlysuppliesfamiliesinneedwith180,000mealsannually,andhassuppliedover1,118,500mealssincewebegan.

Thefirstinterna-onalmodelofFamily‐to‐Family,openedin2007inKampala,Uganda,servingchildrenandfamiliesdevastatedbytheAIDS/HIVepidemic

Howitworks….FOODBOXESFoodbanksandsupplementalfoodservicesprogramso]endryupbeforetheendofeachmonth.Inresponsetothiscrisis,eachmonth,memberfamiliesacrosstheU.S.eachpackaboxfilledwith7daysworthofnon‐perishabledinner‐typefoods,includeanon‐foodessen-al(e.g.warmwintergloves,papergoodsoroverthecountermedica-ons),andsealitwithaleYertotheirsponsoredfamily.Theboxpackedbymom,dadandkidsisshippedtoacommunityoutreachworkerinthereceivingcommunitywhoensuresthatitisdeliveredtothespecificfamilyinneedwhichitisintendedfor.Familiesarematchedwheneverpossiblebythenumberandagesofchildren.Therearelimitedmiddlemen,Family‐to‐Familypullstheveilofanonymityandshameoffhunger,andreducesadministra-vecosts.
