… to our Service of Thanksgiving for Harvest.

You are very welcome indeed to our Harvest Thanksgiving this morning. We pray that as we gather in Jesus’ name, to worship Him, and give Him thanks, we

may know His presence with us, and the greatness of His love for each one of us.

An especially warm welcome to our preacher this morning—Archdeacon Brian Harper—the

Rector of Magheracross, Ballinamallard.

At our services this weekend, the offerings will be used to support the work of the Church Mission Agengies

supported by this Parish. Your generous support of their work will be greatly

appreciated.

SERVICE OF THANKSGIVING FOR HARVEST

Hymn 365 Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation! O my soul, praise him, for he is thy health and salvation!

All ye who hear, now to his temple draw near,

joining in glad adoration.

Praise to the Lord, who o’er all things so wondrously reigneth, shieldeth thee gently from harm, or when fainting sustaineth;

hast thou not seen how thy heart’s wishes have been

granted in what he ordaineth?

Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper thy work and defend thee; surely his goodness and mercy shall daily attend thee;

ponder anew what the Almighty can do,

who with his love doth befriend thee.

Praise to the Lord! O let all that is in me adore him! All that hath life and breath, come now with praises before him!

Let the Amen sound from his people again: gladly for aye we adore him.

Words: Joachim Neander (1650-80) tr. Catherine Winkworth (1827-78)

Music: Melody from Joachim Neander’s

Alpha and Omega (1680) The Lord be with you and also with you.

Welcome and Introduction

Penitence The gospel calls us to turn away from sin and be faithful to Christ. As we offer ourselves to him in penitence and faith, we renew our confidence and trust in his mercy.. Kneel. Silence is kept. Heavenly Father, we have sinned against you and against our neighbour in thought and word and deed, through negligence, through weakness, through our own deliberate fault;

Page 4: Family Service - Rossorry Parish Churchrossorryparish.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Harvest-2016-Sunday... · Family Service of Thanksgiving for Harvest Sunday 16th October 2016

by what we have done and by what we have failed to do. We are truly sorry and repent of all our sins. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ who died for us, forgive us all that is past; and grant that we may serve you in newness of life to the glory of your name. Amen. The priest pronounces the absolution. Merciful Lord, Grant to your faithful people pardon and peace, that we may be cleansed from all our sins, and serve you with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Proclaiming and Receiving the Word Stand Let everything be said and done in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God through Jesus Christ. Sing psalms, hymns and sacred songs: let us sing to God with thankful hearts. Open our lips, Lord: and we shall praise your name. FIRST CANTICLE HYMN 701 JUBILATE

Jubilate, ev’rybody, serve the Lord in all your ways,

and come before his presence singing: enter now his courts with praise. For the Lord our God is gracious,

and his mercy everlasting. Jubilate, jubilate, jubilate Deo!

Hymn

Our God is great. Our God is great. Our God is great. Our God is great.

He gave us the wind, the sun and the snow,

the sand on the seashore, the flowers that grow. Morning and evening, winter and spring;

come join all creation and sing!

The gifts that he brings are new every day, from glorious sunset to soft falling rain.

The mist on the hills, the light and the shade; come join all creation in praise!

For music and dancing, the sounds that we hear;

for colours and words, the life that we share, we say: © 1996 Thankyou Music

Sermon

Archdeacon Brian HARPER ( Rector of Magheracross Parish Church, Ballinamallard.)

The Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. HYMN 47

1. We plough the fields, and scatter the good seed on the land, but it is fed and watered by God’s almighty hand;

he sends the snow in winter, the warmth to swell the grain, the breezes and the sunshine,

and soft refreshing rain.

All good gifts around us are sent from heaven above:

then thank the Lord, O thank the Lord for all his love.

2. He only is the maker of all things near and far;

he paints the wayside flower, he lights the evening star;

the winds and waves obey him,

by him the birds are fed; much more to us, his children,

he gives our daily bread.

3. We thank you, then, O Father, for all things bright and good, the seed-time and the harvest, our life, our health, our food.

Accept the gifts we offer, for all your love imparts,

and that which you most welcome, our humble, thankful hearts.

Words: Matthias Claudius (1740-1815)

Music: J.A.P. Schulz (1747-1800)

The Prayers of the People The Lord be with you and also with you. Kneel Let us pray. Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. Show us your mercy, O Lord, and grant us your salvation. O Lord, save the Queen and grant her government wisdom. Let your ministers be clothed with righteousness and let your servants shout for joy. O Lord, save your people and bless those whom you have chosen.

Give peace in our time, O Lord, and let your glory be over all the earth. O God, make clean our hearts within us and renew us by your Holy Spirit.

The Collect Eternal God, you crown the year with your goodness and give us the fruits of the earth in their season: Grant that we may use them to your glory, For the relief of those in need And for our own well-being; Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Intercessions: Harvest intercessions

In response to the bidding ‘Gracious Lord’ we respond ‘hear our prayer’

Creator God, we pray for those to whom we owe our harvest, all whose work and skill allows us to enjoy the goodness of this world’s resources. Gracious Lord, hear our prayer

We pray for farmers at this time of difficulty for so many – a time of much pressure and change,

of increasing pressures and demands. Grant your help in overcoming the challenges they face. Gracious Lord, hear our prayer

We pray for farmers in other countries – who do not have the resources to grow

their crops, perhaps dealing with drought, flood or disastrous weather, or ruled by unfair laws and poor reward for their efforts. Grant them hope, help and justice. Gracious Lord, hear our prayer

We pray for those who bring in the harvest of the earth and sea – minerals, oil,

gas and fish. We think especially of those who mine the earth, drill for oil and gas, or fish the seas. Keep them from all danger and grant them skill, courage and protection. Gracious Lord, hear our prayer

We pray for those who make the harvest of technology – scientists, technicians, computer experts and engineers who use their skills to open up new worlds and development our understanding. Grant them wisdom, skill and a sense of responsibility.

Gracious Lord, hear our prayer Creator God,

We pray for ourselves as we enjoy the fruits of the harvest you have given us. Inspire us and guide us that we may be good stewards of all your gifts for the good of all. Gracious Lord, hear our prayer

Offertory Hymn 36 (Collection today in aid of Church Mission Agencies supported by this Parish)

1. We thank you, God our Father, for all your loving care;

we thank you that you made the world so very bright and fair.

We thank you for the sunshine, and for the pleasant showers;

and we thank you, God our Father, we thank you for the flowers.

2. Out in the sunny meadows,

and in the woodlands cool, and under every hedgerow,

and by each reedy pool, and on the lonely moorland, and by the broad highway,

with colours bright, so pure and fresh, they spring up every day.

3. And in the dusty city,

Page 10: Family Service - Rossorry Parish Churchrossorryparish.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Harvest-2016-Sunday... · Family Service of Thanksgiving for Harvest Sunday 16th October 2016

where busy crowds pass by; and where the tall dark houses

stand up and hide the sky, and where through lanes and alleys

no pleasant breezes blow, dear God our Father, even there

you make the flowers grow.

4. And whether in the city or in the fields they dwell,

always the same sweet message the sweet young flowers tell. For they are all so wonderful, they show your power abroad; and they are all so beautiful, they tell your love, O God.

Words: Catherine McSorley (1848-1929)

Music: Tyrolese carol melody

Going Out as God's People The Lord be with you and also with you. Let us bless the Lord. Thanks be to God

The Blessing - Hymn S104

Jesus Christ the Son Stay with you till the day is done.

Once again God’s blessing Be with you. Amen

To God, who by the power at work within us,

is able to do far more abundantly than all we ask or think, to him be glory in the Church and in Christ Jesus to all generations for ever and ever. Amen.

Ephesians 3: 20

Hymn TS2073

The splendour of the King, clothed in majesty; let all the earth rejoice, all the earth rejoice.

He wraps himself in light and darkness tries to hide, and trembles at his voice, and trembles at his voice.

How great is our God, sing with me, how great is our God, and all will see

how great, how great is our God.

And age to age he stands, and time is in his hands; beginning and the end, beginning and the end.

The Godhead, Three-in-One, Father, Spirit, Son, the Lion and the Lamb, the Lion and the Lamb.

Name above all names,

worthy of all praise; my heart will sing:

how great is our God. (Repeat)
