vision of creating a network of support for those affected by infertility in the Kansas City area.
At KCinfertility, our mission is to provide community, education and support to those striving to build their
families. We execute on this mission by connecting those affected by infertility to a community in which they are
understood, while offering emotional support, financial aid and educational resources to that community.

INFERTILITY 101DR. RIGGS, BLUE SKY INFERTILITY
Whether you’ve recently received an infertility diagnosis or are in the early stages of treatment, navigating infertility can be daunting. In this session, Dr. Riggs of Blue Sky Fertility will review common infertility diagnoses and methods of treatment, discuss which form of treatment might be indicated and when, as well as what to expect from your relationship with a fertility clinic.
Ryan M. Riggs MD trained at the distinguished Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine at EasternVirginia Medical School (Norfolk, VA) where the first IVF baby in the United States was conceived. His experience and training with these IVF pioneers, including Dr. Howard Jones, makes him uniquely prepared to successfully treat a wide spectrum of infertility needs. Dr. Riggs attended medical school at the University of Oklahoma College Of Medicine. He subsequently completed his four-year obstetrics and gynecology residency training at the University of South Florida and for one year served as a faculty physician in the department of obstetrics and gynecology. Dr. Riggs, a Fellow in the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, is board certified in the sub-specialty of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility as well as Obstetrics and Gynecology.

MALE FERTILITY: WHAT ABOUT THE GUYS?

Often the role of the male partner is overlooked or misunderstood, even though it is estimated that 40% of infertility can be attributed to male causes. In this session, with Dr. Michael Lydic of the University of Kansas Health System, will examine the main causes of male infertility, other factors known to impact male fertility, as well as treatment options and lifestyle changes to improve it.
Dr. Michael Lydic is a Board-Certified subspecialist in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, practicing with KU Women’s Health- Advanced Reproductive Medicine. He earned his medical degree from Hahnemann - Drexel University College of Medicine and completed his residency at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. He completed a fellowship at the University of Cincinnati. Over the last 4 years, he’s served as an Associate Professor ofObstetrics and Gynecology with the University of Kansas School of Medicine, after practicing in the greater New York metro area for nearly 2 decades. From the greater New York metro area to the 435 Kansas City corridor, he is routinely recognized as a “Top Doctor. As a proud father to twins conceived via IVF, he takes great pride in partnering with patients and their entire medical team to help build families.

Grief sucks, and infertility is its own unique kind of suck. Self-care and Self-compassion might be the two most important pieces to keeping sane during this crazy time. If self-care and compassion intimidate you more than a failed IUI join us for tips, tricks, and conversation to get out of your head and into your heart.
Crystal Webster is founder and Chief Solace Officer of Sharing Solace—and most importantly, she is Maddie’s mama. Sharing Solace is a community of grievers for grievers; melding tangible gifts and meaningful community to help those grieving ‘Remember. You’re not alone.’ While her story of infant loss and infertility is not unique, she was still debilitated and lonely from the grief. Learning to find the message in her mess her quirky, irreverent style pulls others in and creates a safe space to just feel your freaking feels.

This light-hearted, yet in-depth overview of In-Vitro Fertilization will cover who should consider IVF and why, discuss the IVF process, IVF pregnancy rates, and touch on some of the most innovative treatments available today. This session is for anyone who may consider IVF as a family building option soon or in the future.
Celeste Brabec, M.D. is a Fellowship-Trained, Board Certified Reproductive Endocrinologist. She completed her Fellowship in Infertility at Harvard in 1997, joined RRC in 1999 and now serves as Medical Director. Dr. Brabec’ s focus is the face-to-face care of couples and individuals with fertility issues. Dr. Brabec is a member of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. She has been voted “Super Doctor in Infertility” by her local peers, as well as nationally designated one of “America’s Top Obstetricians and Gynecologists”, for many years running, and has been listed on “ Who’s Who in the 21st Century. ”

More and more people are seeking out complementary approaches (acupuncture, yoga, nutrition, meditation/mindfulness) for fertility challenges and fertility clinics are responding by including these options in treatment plans. This presentation will explain the research-based benefits of these approaches and how best to use them—with or without assisted reproductive technology (ART)—to improve your chances of conceiving and having a healthy baby.
Janet Lee, DACM, L.Ac., is a doctor of Chinese medicine who specializes in women’s health and fertility. She is a Fellow of the American Board of Oriental ReproductiveMedicine, the only practitioner in Kansas City to have this credential, which involves specialized training, passing a board exam and continuing education in the field. She is co-author of The Supplement Handbook (Rodale Books)—an extensively researched resource guide for physicians and consumers—with Mark Moyad, MD, and has written hundreds of articles on health and nutrition for national magazines. Janet, who also teaches yoga, has appeared as a health expert on CNN, Good Morning America, The Today Show, CBS This Morning and Entertainment Tonight. She owns Vitality Holistic Medicine in the Waldo area of Kansas City (vitalityholisticmedicine.com) and is president of the Acupuncture Association of Missouri.

SUSAN TIMMONS, CHRISTIAN FAMILY SERVICES
In this session, Susan Timmons will discussion types of adoptions, how to get started with an agency, home studies and more to help get parents in waiting prepared to adopt.
Susan Timmons has worked in the field of adoption for over 35 years and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in both Kansas and Missouri. In her role as Director of Child Placement for Christian Family Services she has been blessed to work with both birth and adoptive parents and the children they both love so much. She earned her B.A. degree in Psychology from Pepperdine University and her MSW from the University of Kansas.
Christian Family Services (CFS) has been a licensed child placing agency in Kansas and Missouri since 1982. In addition to working with expectant parents as they consider their options, the agency also provides home studies for private, domestic, and international adoptions to families living in Kansas or Missouri. CFS received Hague accreditation in 2012 and has worked with many international agencies throughout the U.S. to provide home study and post adoption services to families adopting internationally.

Women who struggle with infertility will go through a number of emotions. Emotions that take over their daily life, and affect their relationships and the family picture they once imagined. You don’t have to be captive to your own emotions anymore. You can bloom during this difficult season and overcome the sense of feeling like nothing is ever going to change for you.
Cathie Quillet is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Transformational Fertility Coach, Published Author, Public Speaker & dedicated Mom who specializes in infertility and pregnancy loss, along with the treatment of those in the seasons of pregnancy, postpartum and adoption.
Cathie is a member of Resolve and is a trained member of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine. Additionally, Cathie is on the executive board of The Rooted Bridge, a maternal mental health non-profit in her hometown Nashville and the Counseling Advisor for Waiting in Hope. Last but not least; Cathie is the author of the book Not Pregnant: A Companion for the Emotional Journey of Infertility. An eye-opening book where Cathie not only shares her own journey but discusses the hard subjects women struggle with.
