Edmond Grennon Jr., 23, of West Main Street, was charged with three counts of assault by automobile, a crime of the fourth-degree. According to the report, three masked men, all approximately 5-feet, 10-inches in height with medium builds, harassed a man, who they allegedly shot in the arm. The three men then fled on foot from the scene, leaving behind a shotgun that police recovered when they arrived. The victim was transported to South Jersey Regional Medical Center in Vine- land for treatment. “The motive appears to be robbery and appears to be isolated to this vic- tim,” said Lt. James Battavio, criminal investigation division commander at the Bridgeton Police Department. “I do not think this was a random act, but, as the investigation moves forward, we will be able to answer that.” Police were dispatched to the area at 12:19 a.m. for the report of the shoot- ing. Freeholders Carl Kirstein and Tom Sheppard, along with Bridgeton Mayor Al Kelly, all stated that the city and county are in the midst of talks, hash- ing out the details of a poten- tial library serving residents of Bridgeton and the rest of the county, located at 100 E. Com- merce St., the current home of The News of Cumberland County. “It’s still a possibility for the future,” said Sheppard, the deputy freeholder director. “My theory on this is instead of hav- ing two weak libraries in the area, we can have one strong one.” Bridgeton City Council has indefinitely tabled a resolution to purchase the East Commerce Street property for an amount not to exceed $260,000, with the plan to transform it into a new library, pending further review of the plan and an envi- ronment study on the building itself. Kirstein, who serves as coun- ty freeholder director, stated county officials are waiting on the city council to act before moving forward. “We’re waiting to get the results of the environmental study of the building, and what the city will do with that,” he said. “We’re still hoping this is something that will work out. “The additional funding that the county library received for 2012 allows them to keep their programs going, but if the merger happens, it would be down the road.” Kirstein added: “I think, right now, everyone’s positive about the idea.” According to Kelly, the envi- ronmental study is complete and is currently under review by the city engineer. MILLVILLE — After more than two months of investigation, the man who slammed his newly purchased Ford Mus-tang into a car containing a mother and son received an assault charge for each person involved in the crash.

BRIDGETON — Police are searching for three suspects in connection with a shooting that occurred on South East Avenue early this morning.
