Travel Tips

Travel Tips for Italy

Here are some great travel tips while traveling in Italy:Important Instructions:

Take a copy of your passport so you know your passport numberMake note of your credit card numbers, expiration date and the contact number, medial information, driver’s license etc…give a copy to someone you trust in caseyou have the need for the numbers.. if you carry it with you, do not leave itanywhere...

TelephoneYou will need to dial 011 39 while in Italy, if you are using a US cell phone that doesnot have a European local dialing chip. If your phone can call local numbers at localfees, then you drop the 011 39. This applies to all in-country numbers listed below. To call the US from Italy on a local phone, you must dial 00-1-area code-phonenumber or follow instructions on the hotel phone system.Emergency Numbers in Italy: 113 for the police, 118 for an ambulance

Cash

Page 6: Falson's Final Itinerary to: Sorrento, Rome, Florence … › travefy-storage › itinerary...Falson's Final Itinerary to: Sorrento, Rome, Florence and Venice FM SEP 18, 2016 - OCT

Page 6 of 19CashBefore you leave the airport, be sure to go over to the Bancomat (ATM machine)and get 40-60 Euros in cash for incidentals (taxi, coffee, newspaper). It is importantto have some money but you don’t want to carry too much either

TippingYou are not expected to tip unless the service is exceptional. If they pause as if theyare looking for a tip, it is because they know you are not European and come from acountry where tipping is customary. Like I said tipping in Italy is not customary but ifyou must here are some basic guidelines:•Private transfers or any luggage assistance: 10-50 cents a bag•Casual Eating: 1-1.50 Euros•Nice Meal: 10 Euros•Private Guides: not unusual to tip 30 Euros or more depending on the specialty ofthe guide and the quality of the service (once again tipping is not required)

TaxiNo tip if not handing baggage and then 50 Euro cents per bag unless service isexceptionalThe taxis are different colors in different cities. For example in Rome the officialtaxes are white. On the side of the door is an emblem. Theses official taxis areclean, all have meters, and the driver is well dressed and groomed. The rates arestandardized but I always suggest you ask the fare before you get in.

Hotels:No tip unless they handle your luggage, once again 10-50 cents a bag or provide aspecial service for youItaly has enacted a visitor city tax that must be paid in person at theaccommodations you are staying in… You will be asked to pay that upon arrivaland/or departure…depending on the accommodations it could be from 4 to 5.50Euro per person per night…*Please make sure you are satisfied with the room that you have been given whenyou check into your hotel rooms. Please keep in mind that you are not in anAmerican hotel and things may be different. Enjoy your Italian hotel experience. Ifnot, please make sure to speak with the front desk representative to discuss yourissues. If you are not satisfied after speaking with them please make sure to contactyour local representative so they can further assist
