Being the MC of the Homecoming Day was a very unique experience for me. I was honoured to speak in f ron t o f those es teemed alumni, but the more interesting part of the day was listening to them talk of the old days and see how different life has become in Munsang: From a small school with teachers and a headmaster who cared with passion for their students, into such a famous and big corporation that emphasises, above al l , excel lent academic results. It was truly a meaningful day.

‘Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude.’ by Zig Ziplar (1926-2012), eminent American author and speaker

At Munsang, we encourage students to fly high to an altitude on a par with the sky. All of them can achieve it, as long as they have the determination to

do so. Take this to heart: Genius is one percent inspiration, but ninety-nine percent perspiration.

I am really privileged to have been invited to join the High Flyer Program. It brings students together and builds a learning community among high flyers. On top of that, it provides me with a mentor who makes the most of his experience to share countless tips with me regarding my academic studies and more importantly, my career life planning. Moreover, I am really glad to have Mr. Alan Chan as our alumnus advisor in the program. Not only did he share his experience when he was a student, but as a psychologist, he also helped us understand ourselves more and cultivated our skills in handling mental stress so that we can face up to our failure and strive for excellence. I firmly believe that with this program, each and every one of us will become a more holistic person and fly high in the foreseeable future.

F.5A Ryan Lam

Meeting up with Ms. Harmony To has always been inspiring. In the course of high-flyer meetings, I could see Harmony’s passion towards life, being eager to expose herself to challenges. Currently as a doctor, she is always more excited to talk about her stories of volunteering services and hiking trips instead of her medical knowledge. She never confines herself to be a doctor, but adds colours to her life by doing whatever she has profound interest in. “The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.” This is what Harmony has proven to us — only our curiosity and willingness to explore can keep high-flyers flying high.

CulturalExchangeAs esteemed American author Mark Twain

said, “twenty years from now you will be

more disappointed by the things that you

didn’t do than by the ones you did,” instead

of just going through the motion, we should

make the most out of our secondary lives

by tasting and discovering novel cultures and

experiences beyond the classroom. Let’s

take a look at the breath-taking and horizon-

broadening activities our school offers.

AFS Exchange Student Orientation Day on 29th August 2016

Ciao! Let’s all welcome our Exchange Students for 2016-17, Aurora,

from Italy and Hans from Denmark! We must not forget to thank their

zealous Host Families Mr. Lee and the Kong’s Family, who is also our

alumni, parent and student (Lincoln & Duncan KONG), who not only

took them to Munsang, but also dedicated all the sincere love and

unyielding care to our new buddies. Together with our Principal, Ms

Chan, Cultural Exchange Ambassadors and Teachers’ warm reception,

the orientation day was truly remarkable!

Interflow with Principals from Hubei on 4th October 2016

We were hugely enlightened by the interflow with the three Principals

of Cao Bang Group, Hubei Xianning Jianshi National Senior High School,

who were led by alumnus Mr. Andrew LING, Class 1973. A wide

range of topics, including the curriculum, class size, public examination

format and the medium of instruction were discussed between student

representatives and school officials.

mentees, displaying a testimony of love and care

for the young generation.

To Be Old or Not To Be: An Elderly Simulation Programme for Careers Ambassadors on 9th December 2016To give careers ambassadors proper attitudes

and values towards l i fe and understand

empathy plays an important role in their

personal development, an elderly simulation

programme was conducted by Eldpathy (a

social enterprise) for students trying out

hands-on experiences to be an elderly through

three tasks, namely: “everything is blur”,

“hand-challenge” and “treasure hunt”. It gave

students a real touch of physical degradation of

an elderly regarding their eyesight, muscles of

hands and body. The interactions and sharing

session by the elderly volunteers and students

sparkled touching moments with feelings and

tears. Students also understand the problems

and circumstances of elderly poverty and the

welfare policies related to the elderly in Hong

Kong.

War Zone 90Have you ever imagined how life would be living in a war zone? We

went through life full of war, fearfulness and sadness in War Zone 90 by

experiencing the uneasy life of escape and the frightening life of being

a child solider. War is inhumane. We may not be able to go to school,

work or even have a good meal anymore. Lots of innocent people will

be handicapped or even be killed. Living in a prosperous city, we are

lucky to enjoy what we want. So, we should always count our blessings

and avoid any war if possible.

You light up my lifeWe aspire to assist F.1 students in accommodating themselves to secondary school

life. Each of us will lead three to four F.1 students throughout the school year. Not

only are we their mentors, we also act as their friends, listen to their problems and

lighten their load. F.1 afterschool activity and periodic lunch gatherings with F.1

are held to maintain the friendly

relationship between F.1 students

and us, and help F.1 students have a

memorable secondary school life.

Visual ArtsArtist in school 2016-2017It has been a long journey for us to refine our artworks. We strive for

excellence and seek to put the icing on the cake by turning good works

into remarkable ones. Despite tremendous difficulties, we press ahead

and overcome challenges, and we are privileged to secure help from our

inspiring and dedicated teachers. The invaluable advice given by visiting

artists to the School also helps a lot. In early December, we were glad to

invite a professional artist, Mr. Ricky Yeung Sau Churk, to come forward

and advise us on our works. He alerted us to areas that we had been so

complacent about. We improved after taking cue from him. We are so

grateful to Ms. Lam and the School for planning the very best for us and

giving us the meticulous care, so that our potentials can be harnessed

and our dream comes true.

Asia Art Archive Visit

During the visit to Asia Art Archive (AAA),

I have learnt a lot. It was a wonderful time,

communicating with my classmates and

sharing our own experiences with each other.

In the relaxing atmosphere, we explored

different kinds of art forms and different

possibi l i t ies in the art world. We also

discovered that there are many local artists in

Hong Kong who command our respect. For

example, artist Ms. Doris Wong Wai Yin made

her own archive and store in AAA, which is

pretty amazing and who could imagine that

you have your own archive exhibited to the

public? Therefore, our teacher suggested that

each of us should make our own one.

By starting to do our own archive, I discovered

that actually I do not quite understand myself.

I put something that is valuable to me or

something that has affected me a lot into my

archive. Moreover, I have also analyzed some

data from my research on how my friends

perceive me and the characteristics of each of

my family members and how they think about

me. I found this very interesting that I will

never think about myself in those areas.

We are now going to develop a project from

the archive we made during the programme

in AAA. I think we can be more mature in

art making after we finish it. This will provide

experiences for our future art making.

Can’t wait to see all of our work done!

F.4B Tija Man Yan

It is an unforgettable experience for me

getting a chance to visit the Asia Art Archive.

Through the visit to the library of Asia Art

Archive, I get to know more Hong Kong

artists. For example, Ms. Wong Wai Yin,

discovered a lot of new, creative art forms,

and art ideas developing, which makes me

learn to think out of the box, and know

there’re many possibilities in art creations.

After visiting the Asia Art Archive office, we

are lucky to be the first group of students to

do our own archive project. I learned from

other students stories and artworks through

listening to their presentation. I have prepared

a lot for the project and I’m surprised that

I’m not that familiar with myself actually.

I’m glad that I can have such a chance to visit

AAA and learn a lot from it!

Fine Art AsiaFine Art Asia is one of the international and Asia’s leading fine

art fair. We are honoured to visit the fair in October 2016 and

it showcased a wide range of artworks from both Asia and the

West. We can learn from different artists and their ideas as well.

It allows me to explore to different cultures and contexts such as

Chinese ink paintings, contemporary art and jewellery that we can

seldom find in traditional museum and daily life. It also gives me

new inspiration for our school-based assessment. We are looking

forward to visiting similar events and learning more in the coming

art exhibition.

Tsang Kin Wah: Exhibition VisitThis is my first time to visit the inaugural exhibition at the M+ Pavilion by

Hong Kong artist Tsang Kin-Wah. It is a site-specific installation with text,

sound and projection, which is different from the traditional medium. His

works related to various content such as philosophy, literature and religion,

thus sometimes it is difficult to understand.

During the visit, the docents asked us to spin around like a circle, repeat

what we do non-stop and it is like our lives, but we didn’t discover.

Sometimes we feel depressed and indulge in our own sorrow. Our whole

world turns to be darkness, our thoughts become negative. Maybe you

will “hate your happiness; love your sadness”, however, everything has two

sides that if we observe things carefully, we can have a new discovery.

Liberal Studies & Humanities

This year, a total of 16 students from Form 4 and 5 participated in the

Harvard Model Congress Asia (HMCA) which was held in the University

of Hong Kong in January 2017. I am honoured to be once again selected

as one of the representatives of Munsang College to join the HMCA.

Having joined the HMCA for the second time, I am proud of my proactive

participation and improvement in this government simulation conference

compared to my performance back in 2016. As the delegate of Nigeria in

the United Nations Security Council, one of the world’s most influential

peacekeeping organizations, my fellow delegates and I have discussed

various pressing global issues like girls’ education in Sub-Saharan Africa and

natural disasters. During the committee meetings, not only was I challenged

to speak for the sake of my country, but we also had to collaborate

and craft constructive polices and resolutions, leaving me with a novel

perspective of the current controversial topics. Therefore, it is no doubt

that every one of us who took part in the HMCA, including myself, has

transformed into a more confident and passionate speaker with broader

international insights.

Company Visit to Office of Mr. Steve Chi-tien LEUNG (Class 1973) on 24th November 2016Our renowned alumnus Mr. Steve LEUNG

provided a treasurable opportunity for

our students and teachers, together with

our Principal, Ms. Kuby CHAN and School

Councilor, Mr. Yan-tack YU (Class 1970),

to visit his company Steve Leung Designers

Ltd. (SLD), which is now one of the biggest

interior design consultancies in Asia. It was

an insightful expereience for the students to

learn more about the architectural and design

industry, and to be inspired by the ingenuity

and creativity of Mr. Steve LEUNG.

Group picture with Alumnus, Mr. Steve Chi-tien LEUNG (Class 1973) (2nd Left, 1st Row), School Councilor, Mr. Yan-tack YU, Principal, Ms. Kuby CHAN (1st Left, 1st Row) and Assistant Principal, Mr. Hang-sum LUI.

Student Reflection“I have a plan for my career and life for every 5 and 10 years.” – this is the most profound quote I picked up from the visit. We must set goals that are lofty yet achievable.

Being an entrepreneur is a huge challenge as according to Mr. Leung, he had to accumulate a lot of experience in vast areas like marketing, management of workers, monitoring the quality of the product, collaboration and communicating with different companies. Mr. Leung is a meticulous and detailed-minded soul and I must learn from him as I am a careless person.

Mr. Leung also stressed the significance of joining different CCAs which can truly help us to develop not only multiple intelligence but also leadership and different life skills as we are going to cooperate with different people with different characters. This resonated with

me deeply as this year, I am leading some CCA groups and there is no doubt that there is still room for improvement in my leadership.

This visit is so insightful for me not only as an art student who can explore the possibility in the future art career, but also for me as a leader who should plan and prepare precisely for the future and reflect on my experiences frequently so as to become a proficient leader or even a competent entrepreneur.

I would like to thank the school for this terrific opportunity and I hope that I can visit other offices of art-related careers as I really want to explore the many career possibilities of my dream field and to pick the brains of our ultra-successful entrepreneur alumni!
