taMMy tUckerRecreation Superintendent

I am exc i ted to serve the City of Lafayette as the S u p e r i n t e n d e n t for the Recreation Department. I was at t racted to the vibrant Lafayette community because of the dedication to fitness and support of Recreation activities. I am impressed by, and honored to be a part of, this growing community!

My 20 years of experience in Recreation includes time in a variety of different communities. I come to Lafayette from the Lakewood-based Gold Crown Foundation where I served as the Director of Facilities, managing the Field House and All Star Park at Keli McGregor Field. Prior to joining Gold Crown, I helped open the Apex Center in Arvada, and worked in the Recreation Department at the University of Denver during the construction of the Daniel L. Ritchie Center for Sports and Wellness.

A native of San Diego, I earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of San Francisco, and a Master’s of Sports Management from Ball State University in Muncie, IN. My husband and I have called Colorado home since 1997. We live in Arvada, where we enjoy hiking and supporting the extracurricular activities of our two daughters.

Please stop to introduce yourself when you see me around the Bob L. Burger Recreation Center. I look forward to meeting you!

The purpose of the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program is to teach individuals of different ages and abilities how to swim and be safe in, on and around the water. In a logical progression, the program covers the knowledge and skills needed for aquatic skill development. As participants develop these skills, they will become better swimmers. Our program features American Red Cross certified swim instructors who give personalized attention to each student. We strive for a 4:1 student to instructor ratio in our Dolphin classes and a 5:1 ratio for our Level 1-6 Program.

The most important goal of our early childhood curriculum is to help children become enthusiastic learners and form friendships. This means encouraging children to be active and creative explorers who are not afraid to try out their ideas and to think their own thoughts. We strive to help children become independent, self-confident, inquisitive learners. We’re teaching them how to learn, not just in preschool, but also all through their lives.

We provide opportunities for them to learn at their own pace and in the ways that are best for them.

For young children, meaningful and long lasting learning requires active thinking and experimenting to find out how things work. This is best accomplished through purposeful play facilitated by highly intentional teaching practices.

► eMOTiOnAL: to help children experience pride and self confidence, develop independence and self-control, and form a positive attitude toward life.

► COGniTiVe: to help children become confident learners by letting them try out their own ideas and experience success, and by helping them acquire learning skills such as the ability to solve problems, ask questions, and use words to describe their ideas, observations, and feelings.

► PhysiCAL: to help children increase their large and small motor skills and feel confident about what their bodies can do.
