In our church devotions this week, we read on Tuesday, April 21 that “the fear we have in our lives revolves around adding up the problems as they come in and subtracting the blessings as they leave. We keep mental track of this, and it invariably creates fear.” In our Old Testament lesson, Jeremiah points out that the Lord does allow hardship in our lives, but reassures us that His faithful love will never fail us and in fact, the Lord is inviting us to come to Him with our fears and struggles. “The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him” (Lam. 3:25). In our New Testament lesson, St. Paul encourages us to always “fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal” (2 Cor. 4:18). We can be reassured, that no matter what challenges come our way, our worst fears can be removed by remembering that the almighty God of both heaven and earth is always on the throne.

Third Sunday of Easter

Fear Not Series – “Fear of Losing it All”

AS WE GATHER

Welcome to worship at Faith! We're glad you chose to join us and pray that you will be

renewed and strengthened by God's presence today. Jesus Christ has risen! Alleluia!!

The coronavirus pandemic has brought many fears to the forefront of our minds. “What if …?”

What if I don’t have enough …? What if I lose everything? What if I get sick? Will my family and

I be okay? Even apart from the worldwide pandemic, fear challenges our faith. We fear the

worst. We fear violence. We fear death. During the Easter season, we are exploring the fears

that sideline and paralyze us. But more importantly, we are exploring the promises of God that

combat our fears. We draw strength from the assurance of God that He will always be with us,

no matter what challenges we face.

Today we’ll explore the fear of losing everything. In our church devotions this week, we read

on Tuesday, April 21 that “the fear we have in our lives revolves around adding up the problems

as they come in and subtracting the blessings as they leave. We keep mental track of this, and it

invariably creates fear.” In our Old Testament lesson, Jeremiah points out that the Lord does

allow hardship in our lives, but reassures us that His faithful love will never fail us and in fact,

the Lord is inviting us to come to Him with our fears and struggles. “The Lord is good to those

whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him” (Lam. 3:25). In our New Testament lesson, St.

Paul encourages us to always “fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since

what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal” (2 Cor. 4:18). We can be reassured, that

no matter what challenges come our way, our worst fears can be removed by remembering

that the almighty God of both heaven and earth is always on the throne.

“All the Earth Will Sing Your Praises” (Music on p.10)

You lived, You died

You said in three days You would rise

You did, You’re alive

You rule, You reign

You said You’re coming back again

I know that You will

And all the earth will sing Your praises

All the earth will sing Your praises

You took, You take our sins away, O God

You give, You gave Your life away for us

You came down, You saved us through the cross

Our hearts are changed because of Your great love

[Repeat All]

You lived, You died

You said in three days You would rise

You did, You’re alive

You rule, You reign

You said You’re coming back again

I know that You will

And all the earth will sing Your praises

All the earth will sing Your praises

All the earth will sing Your praises

CONFESSION

Leader: God, You are so good and love us so much. We wish to come before You now with

a humble spirit, and publicly confess our sins before You and one another.

(Pause for personal reflection and confession)

Leader: Abba Father,

All: we are sinful and unclean. We have not loved You with our whole heart, and we

have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We know that You desire our complete

trust in and through all circumstances, but we sometimes struggle to let go of all

our fears. As a result, we turn away from You and toward ourselves our other

things. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. We thank and

praise You for Your amazing grace that offers new life to those who repent and

believe in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. By Your Spirit, help us to live

faithfully, "rejoice always, pray continually, and give thanks in all circumstances"

(1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.) Amen.

FORGIVENESS

"In Christ Alone" (Music on p.12)

In Christ alone my hope is found

He is my light, my strength, my song

This cornerstone, this solid ground

Firm through the fiercest drought and storm

What heights of love, what depths of peace

When fears are stilled, when strivings cease

My comforter, my all in all, Here in the love of Christ I stand

In Christ alone, who took on flesh

Fullness of God in helpless Babe

This gift of love and righteousness

Scorned by the ones He came to save

'Til on the cross as Jesus died

The wrath of God was satisfied

For ev'ry sin on Him was laid; here in the death of Christ I live

There in the ground His body lay

Light of the world by darkness slain

Then, bursting forth in glorious day

Up from the grave He rose again

And as He stands in victory

Sin's curse has lost its grip on me

For I am His and He is mine, bought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt in life, no fear in death

This is the pow'r of Christ in me

From life's first cry to final breath

Jesus commands my destiny

No pow'r of hell, no scheme of man

Can ever pluck me from His hand

'Til He returns or calls me home, here in the pow'r of Christ I'll stand

CHILDREN’S MESSAGE

FIRST READING Lamentations 3:19-33 Jeremiah writes about hope in the midst of affliction

I remember my affliction and my wandering, the bitterness and the gall. 20I well remember them, and my soul is downcast within me. 21Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: 22Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. 23They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. 24I say to myself, "The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him." 25The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; 26it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. 27It is good for a man to bear the yoke while he is young. 28Let him sit alone in silence, for the Lord has laid it on him. 29Let him bury his face in the dust- there may yet be hope. 30Let him offer his cheek to one who would strike him, and let him be filled with disgrace. 31For men are not cast off by the Lord forever. 32Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love. 33For he does not willingly bring affliction or grief to the children of men.

SECOND READING 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 St. Paul encourages us to focus on the hope of eternal glory and not our immediate pain and suffering.

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we

are being renewed day by day. 17For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for

us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18So we fix our eyes not on what is seen,

but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

NICENE CREED

All: I believe in one God,

the Father Almighty,

maker of heaven and earth

and of all things visible and invisible.

Page 6: Faith Ministry Center Celebration Ministry Center April 25 ......Jeremiah writes about hope in the midst of affliction I remember my affliction and my wandering, the bitterness and

6

And in one Lord Jesus Christ,

the only-begotten Son of God,

begotten of His Father before all worlds,

God of God, Light of Light,

very God of very God,

begotten, not made,

being of one substance with the Father,

by whom all things were made;

who for us and for our salvation came down from heaven

and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary

and was made man;

and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate.

He suffered and was buried.

And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures

and ascended into heaven

and sits at the right hand of the Father.

And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead;

His kingdom will have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the Lord and giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified,

who spoke by the prophets.

And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church,

I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins,

and I look for the resurrection of the dead

and the life + of the world to come. Amen.

“Good, Good Father” (Music on p.13)

I've heard a thousand stories of what they think You’re like

But I've heard the tender whisper of love in the dead of night

You tell me that You’re pleased and that I'm never alone

Chorus – You're a good, good Father

It's who You are, It's who You are, It's who You are

And I'm loved by You

It's who I am, It's who I am, It's who I am

I've seen many searching for answers far and wide

But I know we're all searching for answers only You provide

‘Cause You know just what we need before we say a word [Chorus]

You are perfect in all of Your ways

You are perfect in all of Your ways

You are perfect in all of Your ways to us [Repeat]

Love so undeniable, I can hardly speak

Peace so unexplainable, I can hardly think

As You call me deeper still, as You call me deeper still

As You call me deeper still into love, love, love [Chorus x3]
