HOLY WEEK AND BEYOND

As Holy Week began, Jesus was their King,

And His praise all the people did joyfully sing.

But by week's end everything had changed,

And their loyalties by then were rearranged.

As money changers in the Temple, Jesus threw

out,

The people wondered what this was all about.

So He replied to the people who were gathered

there,

“My Father's house shall be called a house of

prayer.”

In an upper room He, the Passover, observed.

By washing their feet, the Disciples He served.

And as with them, Jesus was eating holy bread,

He already knew what for Him soon lay ahead.

Knowing that by Judas He would be betrayed,

Jesus went to Gethsemane, and there He prayed;

Tarrying with sweat and tears, all alone, 'til

At last, He could submit to His Father's will.

Then Judas came, with scribes, elders and

priests,

Betraying his Lord with a deceitful kiss.

Without force, the officials led Him to the place

Where He would face a mock trial in disgrace.

When Peter, who was sitting on the enemy's side,

Was asked if he knew Jesus, three times he

denied.

Then between two thieves Jesus was crucified,

Hanging in agony on the cross until He died.

After six hours on the cross He gave up the

Ghost,

Which because of His beatings was shorter than

most.

Mary watched as they buried the first son of her

womb,

Who with honor was buried in Joseph's new

tomb.

Guards were standing by, the tomb to secure,

As angels watched over, His safety to ensure.

On the third day, from the grave He was

resurrected.

Then forty days later, to His Father He

ascended.

Now in heaven, for us, Jesus is praying

That some day, we will with Him be joining.

So let's faithfully live, and with Him also pray,

That we will be ready when comes Judgment
