The incidents detailed below by a local horse rider are not uncommon, numerous incidents have been reported to FVCA. We appeal to all motorist to slow down and to be patient. "I have had a few incidents whilst out horse riding through Fairfield, where drivers have not taken any notice of my hand signals. I had 2 separate incidents where I have been over took at speed whilst I have been signaling to turn right across the road and another incident where I have asked a driver to stop whilst I was trying to get my very young horse past a large lorry and tractor calmly, for the driver to still try and squeeze through the gap between me and the lorry which really unnerved the horse."

Quackers in Church and the Annual Community Lunch

Rogation is derived from the Latin verb ‘rogare’ which means ‘to ask, and on Sunday 3rd May, we ask the Lord to bless the fields, the crops, and the hands of farmers who produce our food at our special family service at St. Mark’s starting at 11.15am. Joining the service will be local farmers, some new-born lambs, ducks and geese. Following the service and the blessing of the fields behind the Village Hall, there will be a ‘Bring & Share’ lunch (12.15pm). Food donations can be left in the Village Hall from 11am. You do not have to attend the church service. If you would like to attend our community lunch and do not know what to bring, there is no hard and fast rule – you could bring some sandwiches, bag of crisps, a cake, tomatoes, or any other buffet item. Not everyone brings a donation, there is always loads of food. As a rural community, the rogation service supports our local farmers and the lunch brings our neighbours together. We would love to see you at this annual community event.

Facebook Based Money Scam West Mercia Police have been made aware that there is a scam operating on Facebook that is looking to con people by requesting they deposit money into a fake account. Detective Jon Cooper said: "The fraudsters are doing this by hacking a victim’s account and then messaging the victim’s ‘friends’ asking them to lend them some money, normally around £400 and depositing the money in the fake account. Some local people’s businesses have also been targeted by hackers accessing a victim's Facebook account. “Sadly, some of these attempts have been successful and naturally the victims are feeling violated and taken advantage of. I would please urge everyone to be vigilant of this scam and to never digitally deposit money to anyone’s account without confirming in person if possible it is in fact someone they know. “Some online scams are very clever and very convincing however there are steps you can take to help protect yourself – • Strong passwords are nonsensical and made up of a mixture of letters, numbers and punctuation. • Make sure you update your software and your antivirus before using the internet. • Always check when banking online that the ‘https’ shows the connection is secure. • Remember to shred documents containing personal details before throwing away. • Think scams. If an online bargain seems too good to be true it probably is.

For the safety and wellbeing of your neighbourhood, please report any suspicious circumstance, persons or vehicles to the Police on 101. Any information given will remain anonymous.

Catalytic Converter theft awareness There has been a recent increase in the theft of catalytic converters from vehicles in West Mercia. This is due to a rise in the value of the precious metals they contain. PC Dale Tomkins said: “Thieves tend to target vehicles such as vans and 4x4s that have a higher ground clearance making the converters more easily accessible. However, all types of vehicles are vulnerable. “Please help us tackle this crime by taking steps to reduce the chances of your vehicle being targeted. “We need to know about any suspicious activity around parked vehicles. Please contact us on 101 with any information about what is happening in your area.” Tips on how to protect your vehicle: • Keep your vehicle in a garage if you can • If you park it on a driveway, install motion activated lighting • Otherwise, park in a well-lit, populated area • Forensic security marking kits are available to mark your catalytic converter • Locks are also available that can be fitted to your converter • Use high visibility signage to deter thieves

Scratch Beard in Concert Saturday 28th March 6.30pm What happens if you take the intoxicating swing and feel of gypsy jazz, add storytelling songs inspired by English & Celtic folk, and throw in a pinch of bluesy roots & rhythm? Gypsy-jazzy-rootsy-folk, of course! Experienced performers, Scratchy Beard are an up-beat and enjoyable live quartet offering something a little different: very accessible roots/alt-folk/gypsy jazz music with an ear-catching line up of guitar, cello, drums & clarinet with, at times, three-part and four-part harmonies along with a reed organ, tin whistles, melodica & bottle-top slide guitar. Inspired by the infectious swing & alluring melodies of 1930s gypsy jazz, adorned with the storytelling spirit of Anglo-Celtic folk songs, Scratchy Beard perform at venues and festivals all over the country. They sing a song or two in French and enjoy the occasional appearance of a blues melodica and tin whistles. They often reveal the engaging stories behind the songs they perform. Having met in Stratford-Upon-Avon, Scratchy Beard are well-known in the Warwickshire area and have previously performed at the RSC. Describing themselves as ‘a cocktail of died-in-the-wool touring musos, classically trained instrumentalists and a celebrated illustrator.’ Founder member Spesh Maloney has scored and sound-designed for several feature films, film-shorts and theatre shows including the award-winning BBC documentary: Black Roses: The Killing of Sophie Lancaster. Prepare yourself for an entertaining evening journeying through an upbeat, fun and sincere collage of trans-European roots music. Advance Tickets on Sale from Fairfield Café: Standard £8.50, U16s £5.00 On the Night: Standard £11.00, U16s £5.00
