Fair enough! The theme of last Sunday’s service was “Take Action”. This fits well with this year’s Fairtrade Fortnight theme: “Make it Happen!” So what actions can you or I take and why? The Old Testament has much to say about justice and righteousness and how God expects his people to live. For example in Micah 6 v 8: He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you, but to do justice and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?Also in Proverbs 31 v 8-9: Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy”. It is no good hearing sermons such as those we heard last Sunday, and reading passages like those above, and continuing to live as we have always done: we need to reflect on what we have learned and take action. We must not just think justice, but do justice. One way we can take action is to exercise more care when we go shopping: we can ensure we choose more Fairtrade food items, and in doing so we are following God’s call for justice as well as helping producers to receive a fair price for their efforts. Fairtrade also helps poor communities to gain things we take for granted, such as a well to provide clean water, or a new school building. So this Fairtrade Fortnight let us all take action and Make it Happen! Margaret Gateley

For example in Micah 6 v 8: “He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you, but to do justice and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” Also in Proverbs 31 v 8-9: “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.

Well Street Book LibraryThe church has a library in the lower hall. But when I looked at the borrowers book, no-one has taken one out since 2006! Time for a clear out. I have put books I would keep on the top shelves and ones I would throw out on the bottom shelf. It’s a little arbitrary as I can’t claim to have read them all. So my apologies if I’ve thrown away your favourite, but they won’t be thrown out for two weeks to give you a chance to re-instate any that you think still useful (upon application to me). What is clear is that we need some new ones, so here’s a chance for you to donate books which you’ve enjoyed to our library (again on application to me!).Steve Fisher

“Where Dreams Come True”This is the theme for the Holiday Club this year which will be held starting Monday, 3rd August toFriday 7th August, inclusive.Keep an eye on the website at http://www.holidayclub.inbuckingham.co.uk/ for registration which will commence in May, 2009. Think about who you would want to encourage to come along with you this year.If you are over the age when you can enrol but still want to join in the fun – and it really is a lot of fun – then why not volunteer to join the happy band of warriors that help with putting on this fantastic event? If you have helped in previous years then please think of asking someone to come along with you this year.If you can’t help physically then you can still take part by giving financially to this hugely important week in the Churches in Buckingham calendar. Please contact Nick Francis, Youth Minister at Well Street United Church on (01280) 817560 (except Thursdays) or email [email protected] any time or call the Parish Church Office on (01280) 821509 or email them on [email protected] if you want to join the team or make a donation. This is a Churches Together in Buckingham event.

Parenting CourseCan you please let me know if you are interested in the parenting course which is currently being considered. The “Family Time” course covers from toddlers to 11 year olds but we wouldn’t exclude parents of younger or older children wanting to take part. We hope to start this course as soon as possible! Please email or phone me. (If I am out, please leave a message with your telephone number and I will get back to you). Also, if you have any funny or interesting anecdotes about your child or children which we could use during the parenting course or a story about how you overcame a certain situation within your family, I would very much appreciate receiving them. Many thanksJan Undritz

Prayer - WHO NEEDS IT???As God's people we are aware how important prayer is. If you run a group we would like you take a few minutes to fill in a questionnaire. If you do not belong to any group we would still like to know your thoughts, so another individual questionnaire has been designed for you to complete. We want to identify the needs of individuals and groups within the church so that we can all look at ways we can improve our prayer life and see God at work.Contacts to receive a questionnaire or for any prayer related things are:Liz Francis, Flo Thornton or Jan Undritz
