KEY EXPERIANCE/CAREER DESCRIPTION

Dr Shanker received a PhD in GIS and Water Resources Engineering from the School of Civil Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2003. He has started working at UiTM Pulau Pinang on January 2, 2004 as a Part-Time-Fulltime lecturer. He was appointed as a contract lecturer on April 1, 2004 and subsequently absorbed in a permanent job from June 24, 2004. During his tenure he worked at UiTM, Dr. Shanker has shown a very good quality of work and is an example to other young lecturers to actively participate in research and consultancy activities. He has assisted the early efforts of former VC of UiTM Emeritus Professor Tan Sri Dato Sri Ir Dr Sahol Hamid Bin Abu Bakar to create a Research Centre of Excellence at branch campus. Above all, the Centre for Engineering and Water Resources Management (WAREM) was successfully established and successfully launched by former Malaysian prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. He has such prominent qualities as the timely, integrity of whatever things are done, always creating avenues for team work, trustworthy and authoritative to perform the task entrusted. Such properties make Dr. Shanker has always been praised and exemplified by his peers as well as his upbringing students. There are many equally young lecturers from FKA or other faculty who have been trained under his supervision. Dr. Shanker also took the initiative to establish a research culture through the supervision of Master and PhD students at national and international levels. He was given the trust of supervising student from the University of Stuttgart and a total of 6 Master's (MSc) students and a PhD candidate have graduated successfully under his supervision. A total of 3 MSc students and 1 PhD student are following the study under his supervision at present. He also took the initiative to obtain external research / consultancy grants from e-science, FRGS, BRC, Private Grants from TNB to increase research capacity at WAREM and reduce reliance on university management budgets. His spirit of passion and determination in carrying out entrusted work proved by his election to win various awards such as Excellent Service, UPENA Writing Award (Most Technical Papers Written) and Corporate Award and the largest recipient of industry grant award throughout the universe in 2017. In addition he has also won various research medals (Diamond, Gold, Silver, Bronze, IENA Special Award) at National and International levels. All his work and WAREM have generally been published in the WAREM Bulletin

(4 Volume) and became a source of strong support for UiTM to win various awards such as the AKPM and AKNC Awards and will certainly contribute towards UiTM's intention to become a Research University soon. In addition to being a practicing educator, he is also accredited as an Environmental Impact Assessment Consultant with the Department of Environment and Social Impact Assessment Consultant with the MSIA body and is recognized by the Town and Country Planning Department (JPBD). In addition to excellence in research / consulting / teaching work, he is also active in sports where he became a badminton player for UiTM Pulau Pinang from 2004 to present. He is also active in community service activities.
