Safety and Health CommitteeEstablishment of the Safety and Health Committee is required by the law, and details of the committee including membership, management, authorities and duties are also defined in the laws and regulations. OIST has established relevant rules, the OIST Health and Safety Management Rules, based on the Industrial Safety and Health Act.

Issue: OIST does not provide JSPS Postdoc fellows with the medical examinations that the employees receive Background: The industrial Safety and Health Law does not contain any provisions regarding medical

examinations of postdoctoral fellows Committee: expressed concerns over the current situation Survey other universities:

Decision: Recommendation letter to President – Request for securing necessary budget Result: JSPS Postdoc fellows have become to be able to receive the medical examinations at OIST

Activity Example – Health Examination for Postdoctoral Fellows (Sept. 2012)

Organization State of implementationTokyo University Even postdoctoral fellows can receive a medical examination

if they are on the list of checkup examinees that each department submits in advance.

Kyoto University Even postdoctoral fellows employed in various programs can receive a medical examination if they are listed with a certain title (even part-time) on the roster of the university.

RIKEN As a general rule, postdoctoral fellows can receive a medical examination.
